Reading The Infernal City and this is mentioned...

Post » Tue Jun 22, 2010 2:45 am

So im finally getting around to reading my copy of The Infernal City when I come across this mentioned by the main character Anna?g: " I think they're cleaning us, i've heard they use steam to draw impurities from the body... in Skyrim they do this, and it's come and gone as a fashion in Cyrodiil."

I immediately thought that this would be a great thing to include in the game as a way to remove certain diseases or negative affects attained from various causes. Thoughts?

sorry if anything is messed up, i'm posting from my phone.

If they're replacing altars, sure.

It's just a sauna. I don't think that's something you can tie to any one particular region.

Hot springs are abundant in Iceland - geothermal springs bubbling up from the earth's core, many with geysers

So, yeah, why not have hot springs in Skyrim?

Nah, Annaig thinks Skyrim when she thinks sauna, which makes it seem rather uncommon anywhere else. Cyrodiil varies depending on the fashion.

Volcanic tundra?

I'm pretty sure I saw volcanic regions mentioned at some point when an article was describing landscapes.
I'll see if I can dig it up in google.

OXM UK Skyrim Interview Transcript:
So tell me about the area of Skyrim and how it compares to Cyrodiil in Oblivion.
In terms of size, first of all it's about the same size. It's different in that it's very mountainous, so the way we use the geography is a lot different. So it creates a different scale even though it's roughly the same size. But it is the northern most province in Tamriel and it's very rugged. One of the reasons we really wanted to do Skyrim was it has this kind of rugged, ancient, despite it being fantasy, this lower tech feel to it, it's more brutal. Coming off of Oblivion which feels more King Aurthur almost like Renaissance Fair and this is more Conan. The landscape lends itself to lots of different types of areas. Not just all snowy mountain peaks, more Scandinavian rather, these tundras, pine forests, fall forests, volcanic tundra and this area called the Reach which is really craggy and then to the northern part of Skyrim we have these ice glaciers. So even though it is all in one province we're trying to mix up the types of landscapes your going to see much more than we did in Oblivion.

on topic I'd prefer a healing altar over sitting in a sauna to heal a disease or something.

i just think it would be cool. they wouldnt really have to replace altars. It vould just be... an alternative. Instead of having just altars everywhere, we could have some altars and some... saunas... whatever they are haha.

When I think "Bath House", I think of Ancient Rome. That doesn't mean Rome is the only place to have bath houses, but I draw the connection more than other places like Japan.

If they're there, though, by all means include them. At least a little bit. I don't want to see one in every settlement. It should just be a small occurrence, one or two locations perhaps. I don't think Nords purify themselves much in anything but mead really.

Oh yes! I remember that in the Infernal City(I read it again yesterday) I can imagine a hot sauna mini-game with my main character and a female NPC in a cottage in the woods...oh wait, no romance allowed.

But saunas are a must!

My character will be a Khajiit. A sauna would be murder on the fur I'd imagine.

That said I loved The Infernal City and saunas as a tie in would be neat in my opinion.

Did they confirm no romance? As far as I knew it was unknown?

We don't know yet. Haha. But most folks are against it.

Elseweyr is like a sauna, except natural. Skyrim would be no different when it's artificial.

Looking at the map of skyrim (From the GI intevriews) the area labeled "Volcanic Tundra" definitely looks like it's going to be a geothermal hotspot with many springs scattered about. I have a feeling Riften is going to be my favorite town because of it's Proximity to the Volcanic tundra, and it's location at the shore of the lake.

Clearly this is a reference to Skyrim being a Steam game and auto-patching the software for us.

Duh.

Very interesting. How canon is the Infernal City considered?

I don't think it is at all, actually. I think it's considered professional fanfic.

I have the book but I haven't read it.

I wonder if that will be the dunmer centric city I heard about, being next to a volcanic region and all (unless they learned their lesson of living next to a volcano lol). In which case It'll probably be my main base of operations too.
