Ready for the new engine?

Do you guys think that Skyrim will have fallout style graphics, or even better? Well, I mean hopefully they don't have fallout graphics or else the game would be verryyyy strange.

It will be so different you won't be able to see any similarities.

I hope they're better, but like I've said before, I'm fine if they aren't. :)

It's likely to be VERY different, in terms of graphics and gameplay, than what Bethesda is used to doing. Especially since they're going with an entirely new engine and all.

I'm more than ready, I'm more than hopeful. I am demanding!

Morrowind was amazing for its time.
Oblivion was good for its time.
Fallout 3 was average or slightly below for its time.
Fallout NV was very very below average for its time.

I hope Skyrim is amazing or at least good for its time, or I'll be very sad and disappointed :(

look at Morrowind graphics, look at Oblivion, notice the leap and apply it to Oblivion
I though fallout was pretty good, they did add a lot more stuff to the atmostphere and there were a lot more maps, basically the new game engine just has to handle a higher poly mesh and higher resolution textures, also more things processed at once. I did love Oblivion HDR lighting, that was just incredible, was that in Fallout?

It will be great. I'm expecting it to look like it's been COMPLETLY overhauled, since it has.

It is nice to know that TES is still Bethesda's star, with each TES game being built on new technology. I just realized that Fallout 4 will probably come out 2 years after Skyrim is released if they are following the schedule they have set. I wonder what that will be like. By the way, here's what 6 years can do for you.

Daggerfall came out in 1996.

Morrowind came out in 2002.

Do you guys think we'll see a nice graphical leap, or will the graphics be similar since it still has to run on 6 year old hardware?

the leap won't be that large haha. The graphical leaps done during the late 1990's early 2000's was utterly amazing! We will clearly see a pretty big change in graphical quality, but it wont be quite that massive, we will see more of an improvement in the art itself and lighting i think then full technological overhaul cause there have been a lot of little tricks developed recently to make games look better then they really are are (look at Red Dead Redemption. From a glance it looks almost real, but upon closer inspection not that much better then GTA 4 looked).

Thanks to consoles there probably won't be that big a difference.
But one can hope. :disguise:

Well I expect Skyrim to be the best looking game on the 360 ever. Hopefully it will be BGS's last game on this generation of consoles. Let FO4 take the fall for being developed for uncertain hardware specs like Oblivion before it and pave the way for TES:VI! :foodndrink:

So after Bethesda worked on Fallout 3 and New Vegas, this is what they have to say about ESV.

"We can now confirm that the TES V: Skyrim engine is all-new. And it looks fantastic."

So I believe the graphics ARE going to be better.

I'm sure it looks awesome...they've been using that engine since MW, all the way to NV and considering it really will be a completely new engine, hopefully it will look amazing.

With each Elder Scrolls game they start from the ground up all over again. They did not do this with Fallout 3 but they must with Skyrim.

Peoples expectations are WAAAAY to high... I think that it will have good graphics, but it will not dominate any platform. Other games will look better than it on the PC (Crysis, Aion ect), on the 360 (Halo: Reach, Gears of War 3 ect) and PS3 (Uncharted 2-3, Killzone 3, God of War 3 ect).

Don't get me wrong because as I've said, it WILL look good, but it just won't dominate.

Look at CryEngine3 and tell me you don't see a big difference between that engine's graphics and Oblivion's graphics.
An amazing engine that works great on PC and consoles. Though the consoles version doesn't look as good as the PC, it still looks a thousand times better than Oblivion.

I've said this before; the argument that claims an engine can't or shouldn't be significantly improved because of consoles isn't really valid. It takes a lot to cause consoles to "bring the PC down"; and even though, the PC can still have better graphics, while it gets reduced on consoles.

That's always been the case though. Most people are talking in comparison to other multi platformers. No game can really hope to compete graphically with platform exclusives.

If you want more excitment about the new engine, you should read about it from Wikipedia:

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (also referenced as Skyrim) is a fantasy role-playing video game in development by Bethesda Game Studios; it is to be published by Bethesda Softworks.[2] Skyrim is the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls action fantasy video game series, and is a direct sequel to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.[3] The game was announced on December 11, 2010 at the Spike Video Game Awards with a release date of November 11, 2011 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.[1][4]

Skyrim will utilize a new, internally developed engine, foregoing the Gamebryo engine used for the previous two installments in the series.[5][6][7][8] The new engine will incorporate some existing technology used in other Bethesda games, such as Oblivion and Fallout 3.[9] Executive producer Todd Howard has stated that the studio has invested in new talent to significantly improve the characters and animation over previous Bethesda games.[10]

The February 2011 edition of the Game Informer magazine will reveal the first details about the content of Skyrim

They can ALWAYS make a separate PC version instead of being lazy and porting it from the consoles and everyone will be happy. :)
