Reagents in Alchemy

Post » Tue Aug 16, 2011 7:09 am

I read this "In addition to alchemy ingredients there are also reagents" http://multi.systemlink.me/2011/08/skyrim-no-spell-making-killable-bees.html

I'm confuse... :bonk: Reagents in Alchemy? Like "The Witcher" series?

Someone has an idea on how it will be ?

Discuss !!!

The question of the day: How many gimmicks and doodads can Beth add to TES at the expense of pre-existing game world items?

While reagents may be interesting I am much more interested in effects. With the gutting of attributes it is possible (note that word) that, while we may see an increase in variation for the potions that exist, we may really be seeing much less variability with regards to the total different kinds of potions.

Unless you create potions that impact individual skills. But that would be nonsensical... :whistling:

I was now even more confused with your post ... :)

I just want to know what "reagents" are for BGS.... Alcohols ? Infusions ? Special components IN ingredients ?

That is probably because I ignored the thread topic and rudely interjected to discuss another topic. My apologies. :turned:

As for what specific types of reagents will be in the game....idk....haven't seen a list....

It's ok, Admoni, no problem ... :cookie:

I guess alchemy is not a loved skill for TES players, but for me is one of the great skills in the games... I spent dozens of hours collecting ingredients to make potions in MW and OB... It's kind a relaxing thing between fighting Dremoras and other enemies...

I loved keeping ingredients in my chest and creating some potions before I went out dungeon delving. Almost like getting ready for a trip. I'm not sure what to make of reagents, I guess we'll have to wait. My big concern is that Beth has already stated that there are double the types of ingredients...if that's the case, what are the new potions that will be available? fortify attributes, feather etc are of no use any longer, bc attributes are gone. Healing potions are not as critical with the new info about regenerating health. I just hope alchemy has the same depth and level of importance that it has had in the past.

A la the dictionary:

Reagent: a substance that, because of the reactions it causes, is used in anolysis and synthesis.

Just guessing here, but with the introduction of ores we might see things like calcium carbonate (aka soda), phosphorous, sulfur, etc. Also, it could be that there's a source for quicksilver (aka mercury). the possiblities are endless and since Beth hasn't commented on what constitutes a reagent in Nirn we'd all just be guessing . Like others I have have always enjoyed Alchemy and even though it is under the stealth tree my Mage will be an Alchemist! :tes:

Are you sure? This is kind of annoying ... :sadvaultboy: I was hoping that alchemy was going to have some beneficial changes to the gameplay, even though I like the way it is ... Well, thanks !

@ Gnrlkhalid Wow! Such hostility! Wrt to your earlier post the "incompetent" journalist did not refer to ingredients as reagents, but said "-In addition to alchemy ingredients there are also reagents." LInk to article in the OP. L2r :P

Maybe this is good guess, my friend... I never related the introduction of ores in Skyrim with alchemy... Yeah... Makes some sense to me...

No he didn't say that .
That article was not composed by the journalist that actually had a hands-on preview with the game ,it's just someone that collected loads of info , I give credit to the guy , but there are a couple of false pieces of info in that article .

No one cares, whine elsewhere.

Regardless, I think the journalist just wanted to be fancy in his wording.

Yeah, (this time) I understand what you mean ... :D

At least in TES V alchemy will be there ...

My guess about reagents: I hope this time some drinks (which contain alcohol) in game can be used also as reagents for alchemy ... Just guessing ...

I can mash together reagents, flowers and plants plucked from fields to form potions.

This is the only hands-on preview article that mentions reagents , and he is obviously referring to "ingredients" as reagents .
Just a mistake by the guy that went info hoarding , should've been more precise about the info he conveys .....
I could be wrong though ..... and he might've actually meant what he said .....

Yeah, bottles already are made from nothing
Why not to allow player to choose how this "nothing" will look like when making potion?
For example allowing choose from 3 options
20 samples of bottles
colors of bottle
colors for label
(with at least 10 color options)

So that it would allow to make managing potions/poisons simpler

I think in chemistry, when you want to mixture 2 solid ingredients, you can also use a "reagent" (usually liquid) that enhances and improves the mixture (the reaction product)...

I'm not sure about this, so if i'm wrong, please correct me...

The herbs and reagents had a unique look and feel

A unique look ... ok .... a unique feel ... WTF !? they're not weapons , how can you experience how they feel ....
Another incompetent journalist ....
You guys can tweet Pete Hines if you want to confirm , but I'm sure reagents = ingredients .

Yes I'm afraid you're wrong , reagents are catalysts that speed up the reaction or reduce the energy needed to trigger it .
