Real FPS or TF2-style garbage

Post » Wed Nov 17, 2010 9:28 am

Hey guys just wondering if this game is going to be a real FPS where player skill (ability to outaim/outsmart) is what wins? or is it going to be another destination for FPS drop-outs like TF2?

Basically I'm asking are there going to be stat based "critical hits", or are "critical hits" going to be the result of someone actually being able to aim for the face?

Haha, you go full out rage on a game because occasionally a bullet does more damage than normal? You need to chillax bro.

No, this game doesn't have criticals and you do different amounts of damage based on what body part you hit.

You score more damage for hitting the face. It's not an insta-kill, though. You score less and less as you progress elsewhere (with the least damage being dealt to the limbs).

You say this like there is a problem with TF-2. Valve still doesn't price it at 10$ for nothing, bud.

Good to know, maybe I might consider purchasing this game then :P

And I wont even get into the debate of why TF2 is a joke of a shooter here, sorry to disappoint :P

TF2 was awesome. Are you saying you didn't like it because you died alot? Weak man, very weak. Also no, crits aren't in Brink.

Please, elaborate. TF2 was an awesome game, why do you think it was a joke? I mean now yeah maybe, with all the
"Dude, trading this for this."
"Ok sure."

Every 5 seconds instead of gameplay, but it used to be and still is an awesome game

Indeed. Even with crits it is one of the most balanced and popular shooters ever of all time. OF ALL TIME! :disguise:

But again, no, Brink doesn't have crits.

Let's not turn this into a big flame war, everyone has their own opinions. The thread was answered so unless further elaboration is needed, there isn't anything more to say.

I played TF and TFC before I got into CS back in 1998, and those games were indeed amazing.

TF2 took the FPS genre, stripped any sort of player skill out of it, and made it a stat based offspring of WoW and TF.

Coming from CS I'm hardwired with the mindset that being able to outshoot people should be the most important thing of any FPSHOOTER, but in TF2 that is clearly not the way things work. Its just simply not an FPS. I'm not standing up for the latest entries in the CoD series by any means but CoD2 and CoD4+Promod are amazing games in their own right, and TF2 is just simply in a completely different league, and cant compete. Like I said earlier its like playing WoW with the ability to manually aim.

Its like comparing Softball and Baseball, one of them is simply a dumbed down easymode version of the other, designed for those who are incapable of keeping up with the hardcoe crowd of the other.

And dont throw the whole teamwork argument out there because I've played enough seasons of CAL/CEVO/TWL with decent teams to know for a fact that 999/1000 TF2 players have never experienced teamwork on the level that our teams have.

While I admit TF2 doesn't need critical hits (Valve implemented them as a way for newer players to have some edge over seasoned pros), there's no reason to bash on TF2. We all have our games we dislike, but there's no reason to hate on them outside of thier respective forums.

I just used TF2 as a comparison because its the only style of FPS (or lack thereof) that I refuse to waste my time with. Sorry to offend those of you who are diehard TF2 lovers.

Fair enough, but the thread's derailed into attacking and defending TF2.

In all honesty, I agree with you completely - Random crits are completely useless and end up only being a confusing, unavoidable death - exactly what Valve was fighting against.

Luckily, BRINK's fighting against it as well, and they've learned quite a lot on what worked and what didn't, and from the genre's best games. BRINK knows what they're doing.

Lets hope.

Is there any word on whether they will have a trial/demo of the game available upon release?

TF2 was never meant to be a realistic FPSshooter, TF2 shines in it's own light you're basically trying to compare Apples and Oranges.

The only thing I can think of that really detracts any element of skill (as far as FPS are concerned) is strong aim assist, or even worse auto aim. I've never played TF2 but I doubt it has much AA so what's your problem? Criticals? How does killing someone for getting a headshot denote lack of skill? Sorry OP but your original statement is vauge to say the least. TBH, you sound like an elitist p rick.

I think you need to play TF2 before you start namecalling.

You dont get "criticals" for aiming anywhere special in TF2, you get them for spraying wildy in the general direction of your target and there is a random chance your shots will crit. Aiming for the head has absolutely no impact on your damage in TF2 unless you are a Sniper.

So again, please dont defend a game you know nothing about.
