Real Horror in Fallout. Stuff like the Conjuring Movie!

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 9:43 am

If Fallout is a universe that has Aliens, why cant we have ghost or even possessed people?

One thing that people get caught up with is the past. People will say "no that is not Fallout Lore!"

What people dont realize is that Bethesda now owns Fallout and they are now the creators of Lore. They could expand on how power armor works, or create new factions, True factions that rival the iconic Brotherhood of Steel or the Enclave one they can call their own. Or even add things like supernatural aspects but still feels believable in this world.

In Skyrim people fear monsters. In Fallout people could fear ghost and demons. Imagine being locked in a vault with a possessed person where the lights are flickering or just feels haunted.

I am aware that there is something in the game about Salem, but I havent played that quest yet. I'm hoping for something along the lines of things that we wouldnt expect but freaks us out and make us more terrified of the wasteland.

Fallout is science fiction, not science fantasy. There, I didn't mention lore at all.

In real life when people fear ghost, or a demon possessing them that is not "fantasy". I can see why you confuse the two, its because elder scrolls has ghost and daedra as well.

I'm not talking about that kind of fantasy depiction of them. I'm talking about the things that people fear in real life. Like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQrDwPsV8dg

Some may disagree...but the occasional dips into the well of the unknown and supernatural can be refreshing

I have no sympathy for people who believe in fairy tales and myths in real life. And what do you post, a link to the "best scenes" from a supernatural horror film ... not real life :/

Heres https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranormal_Activity_(film_series)... "The series has earned over 40 times the budget"...

Gee I wonder why...

Wolf creek 2 much?

The problem with serial killers is that in fallout, the player has little things like power armor, or I dunno a Fatman maybe?

The whole point of Supernatural is being out of control...

And that has exactly what to do with a science fiction game? ... just because the film series earned over 40 times the budget does not support putting it in the Fallout universe. If anything that quote only supports continuing the film franchise or *gasp* making a game based on it, which Fallout is not.

Hell no... I brought up the point of the popularity to show you that the concept of supernatural beings obviously intrigues a large group of people in real life, this was a rebuttal to your "You were the one who brought real life into the discussion" comment.

I get it, you dont believe in ghost, and your tone implies that you may not believe in other things that I wont discuss due to controversial topics...

But my point of this whole thread is to add an extra level of creepy to the series. As I said to the other poster, I would have gone with psychopathic serial killers for "horror" but in fallout you have too many resources to get intimidated(i.e. big guns) by one.

Unless they find some way to render you unconscious and take your possessions. Which in theory could work. Now that I think about it, that could be a whole new type of enemy.

You dont know the person is sadistic as they gain your trust until its too late...

I want to feel like Im out of control of a situation at times, this is what evokes fear in my opinion....

Did you play Fallout 3? Dunwich ring a bell? Creepy and "felt" supernatural, but wasn't. Fallout doesn't need creepy, evil boogeymen, humans already play that part.

I was in a building and the hand of a skeleton was moving ever so slowly in a circle at the wrist. It creeped me out. LEVEL 9999999 HAUNTED

Funny you mention that because the Dunwich building seemed to have influences by H.P. lovecraft who makes I think you called it "fairy tales"? And the alter...

In any case, that is exactly what I want, If you noticed I have been consistent with the idea of "Horror". Any form can be used as a tool in Fallout from time to time.

I'm in no way shape or form saying it should be horror all the time. But Just have one or two quest about it in each game and I'd be happy.

Reread please: Creepy and "felt" supernatural, but wasn't. Fallout doesn't need creepy, evil boogeymen, humans already play that part.

H.P. Lovecraft wrote horror fiction. I guess a certain someone is unable to grasp what I am saying, ah well. Next time I will use smaller words.

Read the notes section, I rest my case...

And Im done with you and your patronizing tone, get over yourself and stop trying so hard to be "smart" it comes off as real disrespectful and hurts character.

"Next time I will use smaller words"... Heres one for you... Disgusting...

Technically, it isn't.

But anyway, speaking of horror films- anybody know the significance of the Monkeyshines toys?

No thanks. I don't mind the lovecraft-ian easter eggs, or cults dedicated to worshiping whatever. However, I wouldn't want to see the supernatural/fantasy stuff as a tangible element in Fallout. For me, it would harm (although not completely ruin) the identity of Fallout - has nothing to do with lore. There's a big difference in tone between "sci fi with fantasy references" and "fantasy with sci fi references".

Unless someone is referencing Paranormal Activity as a [censored] movie series, I can't take their point seriously. Of course it went 40X over their budget. I've seen more production quality in advlt films lol
