REAL Impact?

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:21 pm

Oh man... Where do I even start?

IMPACT... REAL Impact? In MANY games, when you melee, it really does not look like you melee. Take Oblivion, for example. I'm punching a Mudcrab(It takes 2 hits to kill him lol), and my punches look the same as if I was punching air. Hitting him with a sword(1 hit), looks the same as if I was slicing the air, except blood magically teleports from the Realm of Oblivion to splatter on my sword. In Skyrim, I hope they make actual impact, where hitting something looks like you are hitting something. Like, say, your hand stops when you hit the guy, like in real life. Then again, it's just another one of those silly immersion factors that nobody really cares about.*

What about you guys? You agree? Disagree? Reply here!

Thanks for reading!

I think it's hard to do stuff like that in a game.

Todd did say something along the lines of it will actually feel like you are hitting them, they are using havok to affect and opponents movements when struck

Combat would have to be physics based for this to work.

I'm all for more realism/immersion.

I think this is something they are working on. And believe it or not, the "eye candy" of the finishing moves will actually make the combat "feel" more realistic because it's just stupid when people bounce off the tip of your sword after a thrust. Take a step back, maybe, but in reality he's not going to fly backwards a distance equivalent to the length of the blade, he's going to have a foot of steel buried in his gut.

Same thing with axes in the neck etc.

Yes, but not just people's reactions to your strikes, but the strikes themselves. I want to actually FEEL like I'm hitting the bandit/troll/giant/creeper/zombie/skeleton
