Great job, loved the masks and the swords. Now, I know absolutely nothing about... creating mocks/replicas/stuff like this, so how did you make those masks?

Also, [insert a witty line about how attractive and awesome you are, followed by a marriage proposal here]

sweet a question ...lol ... Well I had no clue how i would execute making a dragon priest mask at all, i have seen them being built a few ways ... one way was something called a pep file ... it is a step by step paper modeling process ... BUT the only ways to really harden it are with resin and fiberglass ....i like to work inside so this whole process was pretty out of the question for me , i just kinda bit the bullet and sculpted the hell out of the masks insted .... supplies .... a few boxes of super sculpey , approx 3 1 pound boxes .... super sculpey is an oven based polymer clay , a bit tough on the hands ... in the video it is hard to see me struggle with strips of it but i was spending most of my time kneeding it out ... does not help my hands are small and worthless like a raccoons hands lol....... to keep the mask from wilting from its face shape in the oven.... first i built the mask over a plastic human face party mask covered over in tinfiol so it did not stick to that mask , i smashed up a huge oval sized mass of tin foil on the side to rest the mask over during its cook time in the oven (once i had pulled it off of the plastic) ... before cooking if you want the object to look super smooth you can rub over it with some rubbing alcohol , it breaks down the first few layers of the clay and softens it .. i personally like recreating the banged out of metal look .... errr this project took about 24 minutes to cure on 275 degrees and up to 7 and more layers of different paints for mock metallic look and weathering i stuck with spraypaint and modeling paint in both gloss and flat colors .. it is really up to personal prefrence ... but yeah as difficult as the project seems it is really worth having a cool prop in the end

Heh yeah it was a great deal of work , the sculpting process took a WHILE plus i been working this stuff out on a rushed time plan using every second of free time , i wanted to have a LOT done by the time pax east came along , so i can look super ignorant while playing a ton of games for a weekend ... that and if i do not set a date where i want to have something complete , it will really never get done ....

I just watched your video you posted earlier (I somehow missed it). Thats pretty damn cool, quite a talent you have there. I hate having to rush my my projects, but it has to be done sometimes, eh?

And what about my marriage proposal? :stare:

Female and photos in the same sentence? Oh boy... this will be the most popular thread in this forum! Ever!

Seriously though, that's very impressive. Beth had a contest a while back, you'd have done really well in it.

I absolutely love it ..it is very strong, my biggest gripe with it is the weight , for a frontal face mask it weighs in a little over 3 pounds ..so for wearing it i would reccomend a headbrace that belts across the temples around the head a little above the ears and two crisscrossed over the crown of the head otherwise it will be hanging over your ears pretty heavy giving you quite the headache lol .... this stuff us a beast after curing it i was really roughing both of them up with a brick of sand paper the pauldron on my arm in the one photo is also made of sculpey as well asthe detailing on the Nightingale blades ... I took out the armor and sword for a test run in the woods , climbing around upstream for photos and junk , the stuff was fine ...and with a huge helmet on my head i was running into things ....i slammed into many walls so far wearing that helmet hahah but the clay itself Very chip resistant , you can drill it with tools ... sand it , paint it and its fantastic .... like any prop if you are not throwing it on the floor it should be fine especially if you intend on decorating with them ...I am considering making a collection of dragon priest masks for my game room ...and framing my sweet skyrim map in the center of them ... mounting my sword and blade ...yea that should be pretty sweet .... but yeah i was outside for a while dorking around in the woods here are some more random shots ...

Cool! Thanks! I've been attempting to sculpt an Ordinator mask (but I'm a terrible sculptor. Really). I've been doing it out of oil-based clay, then I was going to try to mold it, and fiberglass it and all of that complicated stuff. Not sure how it's going to turn out. I wish I would have known about the Sculpey's strength earlier. I have a whole bunch of that stuff. :P

Gosh, now I have a whole bunch of questions, but I'll just ask one more (if you don't mind :D). What did you use as a base for the pauldron? Like how you sculpted the masks over a little plastic mask, did you do something similar with the pauldron?

No trust me i value build questions far over "oh hey so you are a boobs!" comments ANYDAY ... for the pauldron wow so , after no sleeping and recieving two gladiator blades in the mail , I decided to put farscape on netflix and just continuously sculpt ... i remember hand making both nightingale blades as identical as possible then i started on the pauldron ... this sounds nuts but i think i sculpted it over my knee lol .... if you watch my sculpting video of the Krosis you will see me sitting like a deer on a bed for probably hours till that thing was complete ... my advice would be if you want to build a mask save that mass of tin foil you used to bake it on .. because it would have been useful to build a pauldron over but yeah i completed two swords and a pauldron in one night , and helped cook dinner for company ...while my eyes dialated ... hands shaking ...and all i knew were how to make armor and how to have the attitude of a peacekeeper ...we were making some jokes of me chopping meat and sticking it together in armor shapes .... sculpy is def not the go to for projects like this , it is heavy and puts a lot of wear and tear on the hands , there are better ways especially if you know a think or two about casting and vacuforming ... i am just ... mental , completely mental

and to everyone else that commented , thank you!

@TinyHowie i been getting tons of requests for different props especially after this project , but unless i made a mold and was selling resin copies both painted or as kits to paint , i would literally be killing my hands , it is 15 $ for a pack of sculpey you need at least three to make a decent piece and have a little extra to play with ..... then the paints and the layering so it looks like real banged out metal , or wood or any of the other materials the masks seem to be made of .... it would be quite a bit especially after the time put into it , i am not sure if i will ever sell any of them due to that alone ... i would make resin copies just to have a wall full ... because i am like a ten year old boy..... hahah i will keep this thread updated with projects i am sure after pax i will add more , maybe build more armor pieces for different clothing , i would really like to make daedric armor but i would have to work with another medium ... perhaps learn leatherworking otherwise i would weigh 300 pounds

i have a bad habit of liking something so much i just build it

Great stuff!

Puts me in the mood to attempt to make my own armor. Which would most likely end up made of cardboard. :P

How long did it take you to make all of that?

Love the waterfall pics. My wife and I had a Ren Faire wedding and afterward did a photoshoot in our garb by some awesome waterfalls. :)

I'm always drawn to the costume and prop pieces posted on the forums. There's been some stellar stuff posted over the years and yours certainly ranks with the best.

Requisite marriage proposal aside, I'm very impressed with your craftsmanship. It all looks amazing; particularly the Dragon Priest masks. You ought to consider going into business or something. And, man... I have to say that I'd love to see what you could do with some of the more fantastical visuals buried in the lore. You have a true talent.
