Real Life & In-Game Marriages

Post » Thu Jul 07, 2011 1:01 am

I see lots of people have a fantastically excited view of in-game marriages - and I wonder how many of those people are married in real life. I wonder how many people would still be excited about a virtual marriage once they've experienced a real one.

Dude, I think you should include an option for guys with girlfriends who may or may not be excited for the game.

EDIT: Anyway, interesting poll. Looking forward to see how this experiment turns out.

this thread... words dont describe it. Picard and Riker combined dont have enough facepalms either...

it makes people sound..well...really pathetic. If your single in "real life", but excited about "getting married" in a RPG.

If there was a better way to throw yourself into a poor stereotype, im all ears.

side note, i am glad they added relationships in Skyrim. It does add depth.

I barely believe in marriage in real life, I certainly won't subject my characters in Tamriel to it.
Casual relationships are the true answer.

I'm married in real life, and I'm interested in seeing how relationships and marriage play out in Skyrim. If done well, I think it could add some depth to the experience. If done poorly, it will seem cheesy and contrived and actually detract from the experience.

Not even in the least bit.Marriage in games never bring anything to the table except for stupid six sequences, relationship chores, and boring children characters.

I always thought the relationships were stupid in the last GTA. It's a game about running people over with stolen cars and shooting at police officers.

Why would I want to stop every 2 missions to play darts with someone?

so in your universe, everyone goes from being "single" to "married" after the first date?

GTA isnt about running people over and shooting cops. while its a part of the game play. GTA like most any other game on the market is about telling a story. and generally GTA has a pretty good story.

I disagree.Running people over and shooting at cops is Gta's defining feature. And honestly, the story is hardly forwarded by a few side comments about "big american [censored]".

Do you play the game when you play the game?
Because if all you do is run around and kill everyone, it would seem like that's all it is, but if you actually do the missions, it isn't.

just because its the feature people associate most with GTA does not mean that it is what GTA is about. yes the title is Grand Theft Auto. but you could effectively play the game without ever stealing a car. or killing a cop. or running someone over. it would be hard. but you could do it.

It will really depend on the character I'm playing. I'm single though and several characters of mine will marry someone.
I wonder if you can marry someone of the same six.

True, but whats your point?I could just as well not do any missions and just run people over.

And because I don't know how to multiquote

"Do you play the game when you play the game?
Because if all you do is run around and kill everyone, it would seem like that's all it is, but if you actually do the missions, it isn't."

99% of the missions are comprised of killing people, delivering stuff which may requires you kill someone. That is what Gta is about. It's about violence, that is it's primary feature. The story is about Niko plotting his revenge on someone who screwed him over.
And who said I'm against story or something?I like story,I just think that the relationship feature they added was stupid. When I play gta I don't want to have to stop to play mini games I might have on my real life cell phone just to unlock certain portions of the game.

I am single, and I don't feel strongly about it either way. I am interested to see how it will work, but I will only use it if it fits the character I'm playing.

the point is that you dont have to kill anyone other than the people youre forced to in the story. or commit any crimes outside of the essential story crimes.
the game may be about revenge. but that doesnt make it about killing people on the streets killing cops or stealing cars. they are just features.
just like skyrim having marriage. that isnt what skyrim is about. its just a feature.
