Real Life Vaults in the Mojave Desert

Post » Mon Dec 13, 2010 4:12 pm

There is a company making real life Vaults out in the Mojave desert. Their site is www.terravivos.com I thought this was really interesting, especially since they are near (New) Vegas. It says they are $50,000 for advlts, $25,000 for kids, pets are free. The "Vaults" are supposed to withstand nuclear and biological weapons, meteor strikes, worldwide tsuanmis, magnetic pole shifts, sun flares, and other things. Construction is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 21, 2012. Apparently, after they are built you can come and go at any time if you think there is a need. Too bad I don't have spare 50 Grand sitting around... (also my old account got screwed up and i cant sign in so i made a new account. thats why this is my first post)

Sure enough, that's exactly what this is, just not government-assembled, apparently.

Their page has a batch of doublespeak in one spot:

Vivos Pet Policy

Vivos will be a pet friendly facility. Vivos owner/members may bring a pet with them to a Vivos shelter and have them co-occupy the facility, subject to the following basic Terms and Conditions.

Only well behaved and supervised hypoallergenic cats and small dogs will be allowed inside a Vivos shelter facility.

In other words, it is NOT pet friendly because most pets do not fit the narrow definition of "hypoallergenic cats and small dogs".

No white noise testing? No hallucinogenic gases? No sinister shadow government to pick you up for virus testing after 200 years? This isn't awesome at all.

I hope that only one person pays to use them... and that he finds a box of puppets in the vault :disguise:

Beat me to it. Maybe in a couple years after the Nuclear Holocaust you could brainwash them into the people of Vault 21...or turn them into Garry's. That works too.

An in other other words, only the rich undeserving [censored]s of this world are permited to survive. It works out perfectly because rich people buy "hypoallergenic cats and small dogs".

I'm not very surprised by this. Almost everyone is afraid of the possibility of nuclear war, Bio Terrorism, and natural disasters. The only problem with this I can see is that it would be extremely hard to get all the way to the Mojave Desert in such a event.

I predict, with the current rate that unstable nations (Such as Iran) developing highly enriched nuclear materials, more of these shelters will pop up. Nuclear war is going to be a even bigger threat than the cold war (due to suitcase size nukes and the number (and power) of nuclear warheads today combined with the fact that they can be sold in the black market), and the demand for such shelters will rise.

Cheers,
MkII

Weird I missed this topic.

My two cents here are this: if it helps people great, if it's a scam, it wouldn't surprise me.

I think that's the whole point, it sounds like a scam to me... Everyone is all riled up about the world coming to an end so someone is trying to make a quick buck out of it, personally i don't think anything is going to happen and if it does so be it. This reminds me of the Y2K scare 10 years ago and look where that ended up, if i'm wrong and the world comes to an end i'm going to make sure i have some alcohol (probably vodka) and i'll drink to the end of the earth as i know it because if i'm going to die i'd rather die happy than panicking.
