Real World Fallout

In Japan, an oil refinery exploded during an earthquake. Remember the Megaton explosion?

Oh, and this:

A nuclear power plant exploded in Fukushima. Radiation is ten million counts per million in some people.

How does this compare to the radiation and the explosions during the Great War?
Because to me, it looks like there are some really close similiarities.

There isn't much similarity. The explosions in Fallout were from the dropping of millions of nuclear bombs all across the world.

There was an explosion at a nuclear power plant, the reactor itself hasn't exploded. Radiation levels outside of the damaged plants aren't severe yet and they are decreasing . . . if they can't get the problems under control the consequences could be catastrophic but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

The building around the reactor containment dome exploded, apparently due to a build-up of hydrogen gas in a storage tank. The containment structure itself is still undamaged. The latest I've heard (and information is very contradictory) is that the plant operators are going to flood the reactor core with seawater to cool it down and bring it back under control - this is supposed to take about 5 - 10 hours.

The Japanese have some of the best engineers and technicians in the world, and I'm pretty confident that if anyone can prevent this from becoming a major catastrophe, it's these folks. All we can do at this point is let them do their jobs, pray for their success, and wait and see what happens.

Modern reactors are outstandingly safe, and the Japanese have some of the strictest building standards in the world. While this is certainly a worst case scenario - they've planned for worst case scenarios. No Fallout: Real Life yet, folks, that's still up to the chinese.

What happened in Japan is nothing like the Great War or what happened to them in WW2. It has not even reached Chernobyl level yet. Lets hope it doesn't. It might still be something like Three Mile Island accident.

Anyways, the Great War was nuclear armageddon, the end of the world.

(exactly, they will be fine at that reactor. None the less, i feel for them, and wish the best for a swift recovery, and sorrow for those who were lost.)

I am not going to say anything about the Japan incident until about a week or two from now...after much more information comes out.

On the contrary, we are only able to assume the entire world is a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The only evidence of such is that it occurred all over the United States. As far as any other countries are concerned, there is no proof that civilizations have been obliterated and radiated.

And as for "Fallout On Earth," that's not quite the case either. Japan isn't suffering from radiation. Most of it is in fact underwater at the moment...
