Realism Convergence

Post » Fri Oct 15, 2010 4:05 pm

Thought I would see what others think about a realism compilation of mods that are made to work together like FCOM does for the 4 great overhauls.

With T.I.E. and now ROM, plus the great sleep, fatigue, thirst, hunger, and stealth mods, a project to make them work together, would be popular to many players. Base these on OOO and MMM to add some meat, an I think you have a winner.

My thought would be these mods:
OOO
MMM
T.I.E.
ROM
Realistic Fatigue
Real Hunger
Real Sleep
Real Thirst
Stealth Overhaul

Probably more out there, these just jump out at me.

Great advantage in this project would be that most of the realistic mod makers are still around.

I think most of these would probably work together anyway at some level bu there is always atradoff of losing something that is just too neat to have.

Anyone have an opinion on this? Or better yet know of something that already exists?

And if this was done, AND then made compatible with FCOM, would it even be playable? Can you imagine?

I can and have.

I've at times used:
Realistic Fatigue/SM Encumbrance and Fatigue
Real hunger COBL
Real Thirst/Duke Patrick Hydration
Kuertee Eat and Sleep
Nice One Real Sleep Extended
Real injury then later Kuertee Battle Fatigue and now SM Combat Regeneration.
Even Vim and Vigor ... and a few others that slip my mind.

All with FCOM and 200 other mods. Each have their quirks and some work better than others. I know of a few issues that some of these have but none that I can think are FCOM related.

Maybe to pique interests you should outline how you don't think a certain combination does not work with FCOM or each other and how that could be improved.

I'd like to know.

The only possible problem with FCOM versus the realism mods that I can think of would be MMM's Extra Wounding that can produce some weirdness, but nothing gamebreaking.

Sure, make me work at this :)

What I think I am looking for is a single esp like T.I.E or ROM that has all these changes to realism in one file, working well. These realism mods authors have put alot of thought into why they changed things the way they did, and as a team could combine them to form one great realism mod. This is like what FCOM does, takes the best of the greats and makes one that players can easily use (contrary to what I see in these forums, after I understood how FCOM mods work together, and FCOM install for me is nothing complicated, since only a few mods get changed during updates. And if you use BAIN, well, how much easier can it get?)

Well that just sounds like you want convenience - who doesn't.

I could further argue that FCOM does not take the best of the combined mods - it talk just about all of them - the good the bad and the ugly. I could and have argued that FCOM install is not a pleasure to install nor is it up to modern standards.

If you seek to solve problems then have a problem first. Work for it is right.

Vim and Vigor was the only mod I knew of that tried to combine all of them.

Best of luck with your new mod.

I guess I gave the wrong impression. I hev no modding experience. I just opened this topic to see if anyone was considering or would be interested to make something like this.

As for convenience, yes and no. I could take all the realism mods and load them, but I am also looking for the game changes like in TIE and ROM. They were able to make it in one esp and use resources from vanilla or OOO.

As I am unable to articulate what I have in mind, I am/was hoping some else with more experience could.

I think you'll find most people here frown upon mod compilations. They are hard to keep up to date and never meet everybody's tastes. But to each their own...

Just learn to mod, it is actually extremely easy... I was able get the basics down in a night. I still don't know how to script though, but I think most everything else is fairly easy... You would have to combine the plugins and work out the kinks, it may take a while, but this is a good idea, you could even take a step further and begin an Oblivion 2.0 team that takes the best of the best of all mods and combines them as one... That would be awesome, and it would make loading a large amount of mods that much easier.

Perhaps you are right. Maybe I can give it a go. Since the hard work was done already, working out the conflicts can't be so hard (but i have experience with 'all you need to do is.... :)) Thanks for the input everyone.

I guess I gave the wrong impression. I hev no modding experience. I just opened this topic to see if anyone was considering or would be interested to make something like this.
The main problem is that most mods fall into two categories:
1. Mods that are still actively developed (like MMM and T.I.E.)
2. Mods where the modder has left the modding scene.

Of course, there are some mods that are finished and where the modder is still around, but those are a minority.

Combining mods that are still actively developed is something you will generally not get permission for, for obvious reasons - the modder doesn't want the hassle of having an outdated version as part of another mod.
Combining mods that are completed is theoretically sound, but you will have a hard time getting permissions.

As for convenience, yes and no. I could take all the realism mods and load them, but I am also looking for the game changes like in TIE and ROM. They were able to make it in one esp and use resources from vanilla or OOO.
As far as I know, T.I.E. isn't a compilation, but rather a big overhaul made from the ground. You are right about ROM, so it is evidently possible though.
