*Realism Mode*

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2009 8:40 am

Would it be to much to ask that in addition to a "hardcoe" mode, that there also be a "realism" mode taken into consideration. I loved the Left 4 Dead series and only felt it got better when they gave players the choice to experience the game without colored outlines for the character models.

I've never been a fan of colored sihlouettes in games and would have liked an option to switch the rookie feature off.

The next best thing is to wait for Bethesda and Splash Damage to gather enough feedback so they can start adding some cool new gametypes and user customizations to the mix. My only complaint is the annoying and primitive low resolution for textures and terrain mapping; as it occurs quite often.

This cannot be overlooked or ignored and should be addressed immediately.

If anyone would like to play and kick butt while working together as a team; my Xbox Live Gamertag is Syfe.

Go to options, and turn off all the hud features. Welcome to "realism" mode.

Well, that would have been the idea. However when you go to options, there is no way to reduce the HUD. The only things that can be toggled off are:

Obituaries
XP Indicator
Hint Popups

I already have these options switched off and still have a ton of HUD like Radar, Ammo Count, etc. Honestly the HUD is not my concern; it's those damn colored outlines on the enemy and friendly character models.

Do I seriously need to see a blue aura around my teammate when they are only 6-7 feet away? It looks dumb and disorienting. Conversely it takes away from actually having to skillfully navigate the terrain. At this point it's another "blind" game of "follow that outline". The game has much depth as is, so why not have players also "think" carefully about doing some pathfinding through these huge environments; without the training wheels.

P.S. It would appear that we have different definitions for what constitutes a "realism" mode. Thanks anyway.

You know you can turn this off right? Hell, servers can turn this off for everyone playing on them.

Realism mode may be good, but hardcoe mode I give a big hell no, would just lead to camping if OHK became even easier.

You can't camp in this game...that is unless you don't care to win. Brink makes it so that even the most cowardly of full-time campers would have to eventually come out of their corner or hole if they want XP or any form of action.

As for the colored sihlouettes; tell me exactly how I can switch them off using the options on the Xbox 360 version. This should be good.

P.S. Why is it that all my characters have the same voice eventhough I make sure to select a different one each time I create a guy. Super subtle voice over glitch!!!

The bugs just keep coming...

I could be wrong, but aren't the silhouettes a result of specific tags skills (operative). So, basically you are asking for skill set restrictions?

There's probably more to it, but I'll throw it out there anyway.

Pro-tip: Stick to the thread topic.

The colored sihlouettes that are visible around your teammates at any given time, are not class or role specific. Just want to put that out there because it is fact.

Does anyone else have some actual insight, in the hopes that they can perhaps shed light; regarding character dialogue and how to sidestep the above mentioned "voice" bug. Thanks!

hardcoe mode???? maybe for human vs human, but definitly not human vs bot, they already have overpowered guns, adding a hardcoe mode would be suicide lol

How about we fix the net code and let Splash Damage unleash the full force of the bots, not the ones we have now.
Then... and only then, will petty needs needs be accommodated.
But yes, no outline would be a good feature if everyone had it off. I would definitely approve.

The bots on Hard as is, already have some eagle eye aiming to their credit. I think they are fine the way they are. I'm lovin' the whole names on the bots thing...as opposed to BOT#5 or something dumb. Very refreshing.

Just for the record; the "hardcoe" mode would definitely be human versus human only. I am almost positive that it is already in the works. When it comes to the "colored sihlouettes", it turns out that the PC version allows you to switch them off; which would lead me to believe that it won't be long before we see the same on the Xbox 360 version. The sooner the better.

P.S. I found a way around the whole "voice bug" thing...I think.

Wow, no offense but they're catering too much to the PC gamers. The PC allows you to switch it off? Same with the hud. What is this? I expected a game I can finally play without the hud on my screen. In COD I was able to stretch it entirely off my screen with it slightly clipping. But entirely would be BEST.

I'mma just rant for a bit.

Man, no matter what console you buy it for... I shouldn't have to come onto forums to ask about. Regardless if you're a FPSPC nerd or a Console shooter. Pro-tip, consoles are better for players to experience a great game all together. I can get Brink for the PC, np... it's the fact I already bought it for the 360 expecting quite a bit that I saw on their website. I hate watching bots man, I would rather turn them off. Can't stand them in any game that is fast paced. They're too jumpy and ninja like for me to even consider them human. Even on Easy.

I switched from Hard to Easy to see what the difference was, and they're still a bit over powered and actually hard. Not to mention the bots on your team svck harder than before. The only difference between Hard and Easy... is that Easy they pretend to not see you. But they do.

Also, the reason I hate having bots is it's hard for me to pay attention to the layout of the map and figure out any sort of route to flank someone. THEY ALWAYS SEE ME! XD

But still, he's right about the hud being too cluttered with the outlines of the bots. I understand when someone calls them out, that's sweet, or even a group of them. That's helpful IF they're not already lit up, or a huge mess of clutter on the screen.

Console gameplay is the way to go if you want to talk to...everyone. Not to mention, it's a lot more comfortable. Who wants to prop themselves upright on a slightly comfortable chair, mouse in hand; for hours on end? I personally like to lay back on the couch or bed when I do my killin'.

Let me make one thing clear; I would rather play against humans than bots. However, it's good to know that when humans are not around, that there are bots who can simulate human behavior pretty well. I would prefer this, as opposed to "dumb as a rock" bots.

Things that still need to be addressed:

Low Resolution Rate
Terrain & Texture Mapping
Character Model Mouth Movement (when speaking)
hardcoe Mode
Realism Options
Further Limited HUD
More Varied Gametypes & Missions

Now, if Bethesda Softworks and Splash Damage included the following changes and upgrades in their mid June update patch; I'd feel extremely Brinkalicious.

What? You make no sense! No one says that HC mode has to be OHK...I prefer between 2-4 for a kill. Also, why would you object to HC mode? It would be optional so if you don't want to play you wouldn't have to! It wouldn't affect anyone who chose not to play it.

And "realism mode"? I guess I don't really get it. This game is not at all reality based so how would a "realism mode" fit? I'm not against it because I think as long as it's optional it doesn't concern me...I just don't think I understand exactly what you're asking for.

What I find more obnoxious is the yellow objective markers obscuring enemies between myself and the objective (as the objective is always 'on top') or not being able to just glance at a door in Aquarium and see if its the one that has the demo charge on it because the frigging objective marker totally obscures it.

Really? ANOTHER thread about how to make this more like CoD piece?? Seriously EFF OFF. CoD is TRASH. LEAVE BRINK ALONE.

Brink is awesome BECAUSE it is NOTHING like CoD.

just play this: http://www.moddb.com/mods/smod-dt-project-life

or this: http://jedineka.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/arma2_jedineka.jpg
or any number of realism mods including Infiltration for UT99 and Project Reality for Battlefield 2.

But then... it would be nice if removing all HUD elements for all players as well as adjusting health amounts were possible. That and replacing outlines with some kind of sound indicator or possibly a better idea that is also realistic.

Soon... mods... BRINK will have mods... AND ALL OUR DREAMS WILL COME TRUUUUUUUUEEE unless you can't edit the weapons like CS.

Also, the outlines are fine.

First off, no one had mentioned CoD...at all.

Secondly, a "realism" mode simply means a mode that would allow players to experience Brink without being forced to see colored outlines on everything. They added that in to help out the children. I'd rather play Brink minus the training wheels.

Thirdly, a hardcoe mode would be a smart choice as in Brink is attempting to appeal to the masses. If you don't care for a hardcoe mode; then ignore the hardcoe mode tab when it's added and don't play it.

P.S. If you can't stick to the topic; then don't post. Especially if half of it is going to be misspelled and in caps. Yawn. Back to topic.

P.S.S. The resolution refresh rate is so horrible. Brink Update patch releases June ##. Enjoy!
