Realistic ballisticsweapon handling?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 6:27 pm

Now I'm not going to say "wish this would be in the game" because it won't. I will say that I'm hoping a mod like this would pop up.
in video games Assault rifles are simply full-automatic rifle-sized weapons, irl every assault rifle has a fire-selctor (full-automatic/burst and semi-automatic). In every fallout game we start with a 10mm pistol, which irl a glock 20's are advertised as bear hunting pistols.
I really want a mod that has realistic damage and handling (shotguns loaded from the breach AR's with fire selectors etc.)
do you all think such a mod will ever come out

Realistic damage? I can do without it. I don't want bullet sponges, but I also don't want the game to suddenly end because some Raider got lucky with a headshot.

Shotguns loaded from the breach? That's just an animation, and depends on the type of shotgun. Don't particularly care.

Different modes of firing for ARs? That could be nice, but I don't expect it, nor am I sure I'd use it.

Well the sawed off is a breach loading shotgun (basically a double barrel). I would actually love a good ol' pump action shotty!

Realistic weapon damage? So...you want to be able to potentially be killed by a single shot from a pistol? You want a Ripper to be one of the scariest weapons out there? Sure, realistic weapon damage seems all fine-and-dandy when you are shooting at Raiders...but when they start shooting back...you're toast. If Fallout 4 had a mod with actual realistic weapon damage, we'd all be dead after most any battle with more than one enemy. Stealth would be a requirement and you'd have to be very lucky. Plus, leveling wouldn't do squat to increase your health. A Sergeant doesn't really have more health than a Private - he's just more skilled and knowledgeable.

Now, if you want more realism, but not actually realistic damage - like some of the modders do, then that's great! But, in my experience, too much realism spoils the fun. If the game were realistic, we'd all get radiation poisoning, get shot, or get poisoned/killed by one of the Wasteland's various deadly critters. Or starve while cowering in our Vaults.

If the OP would go look at the Nexus FO3 mods he would see plenty of realistic gun mods.....no reason to think these would not follow over to FO4.

Now, in terms of realistic ballistics (as in windage and bullet drop), that's likely not possible to add via a mod and is something the base physics engine would need to accommodate.

Also, if you are talking about mods for a console version of the game, we really don't have any idea of what kinds of limitations mods for console will actually have, so it's quite impossible to say.

Realistic damage: With this being an RPG, I think sacrifices have to be made here. Even someone with the IRL equivalent of 10 Endurance would be pretty hurt by a well-placed 10mm. But I do think everyone in general will drop from bullets faster than they did in Fallout 3.

Bullet drop: We talked about this in another thread, but I actually learned that there was a gravity setting for projectiles in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, so it seems like it's in. Not for everything, though, Bethesda used a mix of hitscan and projectile depending on the weapon.

As for fire selection, I'm all for it. I'd at least want an Assault Rifle I could use semi-automatically.

Personally, I want http://www.ithacagun.com/defense37s.php preferably the wood stock model.

But as for realistic damage, not in my games I don't want them. IRL, my Sig Sauer 1911 can kill every bit as easy as the cheapest POS Hi Point there is on the market. A .22 cal pistol can kill every bit as much a 500 S&W magnum can...one of them will leave a slightly bigger hole in you though, but you'll still be dead. either way.

Fire mode selector mod already exists, and i never play without it:
http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/20012/?
http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/49478/?

And if that functionality is not in F4 by default, it'll probably be modded for it too. Likely a PC only mod though, that one requires the Script Extenders.

Yeah, that's a pretty one

I'm all for mods that make the damage mechanics more realistic. I ended up making my own for New Vegas, as all the ones I tried (even JSawyer's) weren't up to the standards I was looking for. Wanted to do the same for the survival mechanics, but that's a little more involved than shuffling a few (thousand) numbers around on a spreadsheet.

And yes, if you get anything close to "realistic damage" any schmuck with a gun is a potentially serious threat. It puts the focus more on situational awareness and controlling the battlefield than frenetic "victory through volume of bullets fired" combat. Most people don't want that, but I enjoy it. Now if only I could get the AI to stop being so all-fired stupid...

Pretty much in agreement with most here. Per standard damage in past fallout games, the damage from smaller guns was almost mosquito bite like. Not enough. Mods addressed that. I would prefer that FO4 be a bit more realistic than that out of the box. But true realism ... Nah. I play flight sims for true realism. I play Bethesda games for a little more relaxed experience.

I actually have an older Ithaca in a 20 gauge! I like it a lot, shoot clays with it and it performs very well!
