Realistic(ish) Lock Picking Mod

Post » Sat May 21, 2011 5:19 pm

Lock picks don't break irl, especially from a falling pin. I'm looking for a mod that makes lock picks unbreakable and, to compensate, makes the mini game not pause Oblivion.

I've tried Zumb's Lockpicking Mod, but didn't like how it makes lock picking 100% a dice roll by removing the mini game.

You can't change the minigame, aside from removing it. Use either Zumb's or Morrowind Style Lockpicking.

So if lockpicks are unbreakable, what is left in the mini-game anyway? You pick, it fails, you try again, rinse and repeat? Doesn't seem like a game to me, just drudgery at that point.

Morrowind Lockpicking is good, makes it realtime.

By the way, if you want time to pass when you are lockpicking, try Tekuromoto's excellent Time manager mod that lets you set time to pass when doing multuiple actions (configurable by ini). I think TheNiceOne also has a similar mod...

Lockpicking systems I'd still like to see:
- the one from Thief: Deadly Shadows
- the one from Thief: The Dark Project

They're basically exactly what you're looking for, and I'm surprised nobody has tried to make something like this. It should be possible. Yes, you can't change the minigame, but with the resources we have at hand nowadays, it should be easy to make a new, realtime version of the minigame completely from scratch.
