Realistic Leveling

Before I start posting my long mod lists, incase I might not have to...

Can realistic leveling be effected by other mods in a largely impacted way?

I have many mods and for some odd reason, the starting stats are overwritten and so instead of reality mod settings I have way too high of starting stats and I dont seem to level up period.

Reality mod is running, so the console says, but all the stats and everything seem to be incredibly off and messed up by some other mod I believe.

Could this be due to some kind of load order, or does the mod rarely ever need much of an order?

EDIT- If there is somewhere I could find all the starting stats for all races while using realistic leveling, that would be great!

hm, now my starting stats are lower at the start again... i am confused as to why since i didnt even change anything.

previously i was getting starting stats of 50-60's and now its much lower in many... shal i assume it is working correctly now?

i can not tell since i have yet to level up. is there a way to tell whether or not the mod is working correctly? i have all the settings to recommended when i installed it.

I am running OOO and MMM, do they make the enemies 10 times stronger? lol

How much health do you have and what kind of enemy is killing you in 1-2 hits? If it's a rat, you've got a problem. If it's something else, maybe not.

When I started out with OOO as a level 1 character, a rat can indeed seriously damage you :)! After killing rats and mud crabs, the next best beatable enemies I found were wolfes and goblins. Survival is definitely a problem in OOO (and OOO + MMM) and a BIG change from vanilla!

I think your initial health at level 1 should be about 60 or 70 in OOO depending on what type of character you created, IIRC. So really not much health. Somebody else may know better than I do.

thanks guys, yeah i believe it is now working correctly... although i had to disable realistic fatigue that was recommended with it because people were randomly falling down all the time lol.

now im having framerate issues, its decent with just MMM and OOO and the unofficial and official mods, but after i start adding stuff like open roads etc i cant even fight nor walk into a town without huge lag.

i even did the tweaking guide too. im running the lowest possible widescreen resolution and the lowest detail settings. my computer is 4 years old but it should not be running THIS slow.

In my experience, there are two things that really eat into the framerate: Visible When Distant (VWD) objects and active AI's. Especially MMM add many more enemies with one active AI each, and if you have other mods adding actors, it builds up fast. So consider using one of the MMM plugins that have less (but maybe stronger) enemies.

Thanks niceone, i have a feeling that is exactly it... i mean, its not bad at all if its MMM and OOO only, but it just builds up. I have removed some unncessary mods to help but i think in the end, i will buy another gig of ram (only one gig because i still use 32bit xp) and upgrade my CPU (i will just buy a 5500+ or something thats close to 2.6-3.0GHZ, there old processors so they must be cheap).

think upgrading those two might help things?

2 gigs of RAM is not so bad but your 2.0 giga hertz CPU is not very fast and the graphics card is also rather old nowadays and has only 256 mega graphics RAM. That's not good. CPU speed is important because OBlivion is not very good at using multi core, so the faster the core speed, the better. Yours at 2.00 ghz is relatively slow.

As to graphics card I have an about 1 1/2 year old, slightly factory-overclocked model of a Nvidia 8800GT with 512 MB RAM and that works rather well in 1680 x 1050 for me. Obviously it depends on what graphic mods and setting you want. I can run all details higher than 80% and even put on 2x anitalias and 8x anisotropic filtering and it is running ok. I guess it could be better but it's pretty good and provides good fun.

The 8800GT is about the same card as the 9800GT (or GTX?). These you can get from ebay rather cheaply today. If you buy a new one, the new ATI 5770 or better yet 5850 are very nice. Also Nvidia 260 are rather strong (stronger than mine) and not very expensive anymore. If you buy a new card, go for one that has 1 GB of graphics ram. But the processor is a bottleneck too in your system.

thanks for the advice,, i looked into some video cards specifically the ones you mentioned but they dont quite seem to be in my price range at the moment. afterall, i mainly just play this game for the computer and that is it. i cant seem to get a new cpu because they no longer make them for the type i have so i am screwed on that. :'(

however, i can buy another gig of ram but i have the feeling most of the performance problems are due to my slow cpu and maybe the video card.

Forgot to ask: What is your operating system? If still XP, stay with 2 GB RAM. If Vista or Win7, yes, buy one more, it should help somewhat especially with loading times.

Check out prices of a used 8800GT with 512MB graphics RAM on Ebay. I've no idea what they are now but if it's affordable for you, go for it. It will make a great improvement over what you have now!

Alternatively an ATI 3870 with 512 RAM is also to recommend; the 8800GT will produce the better anisotropic filtering, Nvidia can do this better than ATI.

hmmmm, yes i am running xp so i dont think any more ram would do much good even though i thought it did allow up to 3gigs that would actually be used.

i looked at some of the graphics cards on tigerdirect and most of them are even slower clock mhz than mine.

i checked those 8800gt on ebay but i dont think i want to trust anything used.

id be willing to spend 100-150 bucks on a video card if it werent for my slow cpu speed. theres no point getting a fast card thats going to bottleneck from a 2.0ghz slowpoke cpu. :(

not sure what im gonna do, i guess ill just play the best i can for oblivion.

You may want to consider opening a thread in the Hardware section of Oblivion forums. People there are very knowledgeable and may be able to tell you if it makes sense for you to get a new video card for the sluggish CPU, and if so which would be a good model. Or consider asking for counsel on a computer forum like

They also have a crapload of stuff to read there, and forums as well. I got a few questions resolved from there. I'd recommend that site and community.

Then it means that you have something else that changes your stats big time and therefore confuses RL. Switching to another leveling mod will not help, as there are none that are more generally compatible than RL. The only incompatible mod I know about is Proximity Based Sneak Penalties, but it seems like there must be others. You're probably better off looking for ABO's "official" thread and restating your question there, btw.

Definitely something is borked! Is your modlist from post #1 still valid? I cannot see any levelling changing mod other than Realistic. And RL worked fine for me despite installing it into an ongoing game. Yes, it reset / recalculated my level ONCE at the beginning, but since then everything is going as supposed to. So I'm at the end of my puny wisdom.

I'd also humbly suggest you post your current LO in the thread TheNiceOne mentions and ask again. Maybe also just post your RL .ini config file there.

After creating a character(without doing any skill levelup) I looked at the skill page and the progress bar showed 64%, is that normal?

Hmm... yes, something must definitely be wrong because I just randomly went back to level 1 again. I dont believe I have any mods that may conflict with it. I do have Proximitey Based Sneak Penalties added but I just recently added it after I had these issues. (what exactly does it conflict with on RL).

Hmm... yes, something must definitely be wrong because I just randomly went back to level 1 again. I dont believe I have any mods that may conflict with it. I do have Proximitey Based Sneak Penalties added but I just recently added it after I had these issues. (what exactly does it conflict with on RL).
It could be Living Economy. It tries to make your Mercantile skill progress faster when you trade expensive items, but that feature is broken and can lead to big leaps in your mercantile skill.

Try exchanging it for Enhanced Economy.

hmm, ill consider that. guess the enhanced one is the one you mad since its in ur sig afterall. :P

but now that i think about it, i never once sold anything. i mean i literally got out of the tunnel and ran around for about half an hour killing random deer and stuff for leather and stuff and BAM i was level 9.

Yes there is! I have in my game! But I think you have to manually copy/paste some .xml file from somewhere.

Are you using DarNified UI or Dark-DarNified UI ? I think it involves something with that. I remember it was a very small and smiple thing to do. Some XML file copy/pasting or so. I'll check later at home and come back here. You may find some mention in the RL readme about it, I don't remember exactly... anyway I'll be back in like 2 hours or so.

Ah, ill have to look into that! Thanks :D I am using Darnified UI. I will take a look through the readme for both the realistic leveling and the UI one and see what I can find.

TheNiceOne, I have been looking at that economy enhanced mod of yours... and from what I can see it sounds really nice. I have already downloaded it and ready to install it but I am curious as to exactly how different it is to LE. I honestly didnt get to play long enough to even go into the city to start bartering. Didnt even get into a town before I hit level 9 and i was like CRAP, got to exit game and fix this crap. lol


EDIT- Oh, could the progress mod have anything to do with this? I had it turned on for a short while and then later disabled it but I wasnt even out of the starting tunnel when I removed it.

Ok, I hated to do this but, I just uninstalled all my mods and I am going to reinstall them again. (assuming uninstall on Wrye Bash is really uninstalling)

Ill see what happens now, as I think I also had alot of disorganized clutter.
