[RELz] Realistic Lighting without Post-Processing

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 1:51 pm

Okay, I'm currently using version 1.7, and was basically blinded by my whole screen going white when I used Night Eye. Deactivating it made the screen way too dark to see and I had to reload my game for things to return to normal.

Were you using the ENB?

Also, no comments on the test version? :( I haven't fixed a couple bugs in the plugin itself, but I'd love some feedback on the java program. Did it work? Is it too many settings to deal with? Etc etc.

I've been asleep for 8 out of 9 hours of its existence. ;) I'll test it out this afternoon. :D

I'll give the test version a whirl, how does one install it, just drop everything in the data folder im guessing, and what exactly does the patcher do ?

I've not been awake long, so I'll give it a test shortly. Trying out the new 'Kingdoms of Amalur' game at the moment. Quite a bit of fun :)

Just one question, what's the patcher .jar for? Is it something I need to do something with, or just leave it be and let it do it's thing automatically?

EDIT: Derp, seems I didn't read properly. For me, the Java program isn't doing anything at all.

So, you ran the java program?

Should've clarified that - you drop it into the data folder, customize the ini file, and then run the java program.

If it doesn't do anything -> make sure you have an updated java (6.30).

I've been asleep for 8 out of 9 hours of its existence. I'll test it out this afternoon.

C'mon, since when is that a valid excuse?

I put the files from the 1.7 zip into my Skyrim installation and ran the game. It showed the ENB message in-game when I started it. I've never used ENB before, so if there is anything more than that I'm supposed to do then I haven't done it.

Heh, alrighty. I'd say to use the 1.6b version. Most of my work will be based off of it. Try the test version I linked above, and remove the ENB ^^ It'd be the d3d9.dll.

Doesn't the "d3d9.dll" in 1.7 make this a "with post processing" mod?

(In other words, perhaps this variant deserves to be its own mod with a distinct name?)

On a related note: NMM will put a warning flag on any mod where your downloaded file has a version which is different from the mod version.

I'll be doing a new release, as a new file. That way I can personally support and update it easily.

Just wait till that comes out -> you'll like the results. It'll allow flexibility for all the post-processing mods, along with flexibility in the stand-alone. It'll be re-branded as 'Realistic Lighting' but I'll hold true to having full support for a non-post-processing version, which will be the main version. :)

In addition, it'll also add flexibility to modifying the vanilla lighting system - in case you want to change it a little (or even a lot) without dealing with the RL changes.

Good choice. I was the one that warned seventy four about ENB, and the side effects it causes. I like ENB, and currently use it. But the Boris himself has said that the missing effects like night eye are related to his overwriting the game color processing, and he does not know how to fix that without reverting back to that. There are also performance issues related to it, and lately Boris seems discouraged due to his perception of Bethesda, and the user community here. I would rather this mod focus on the in game side of things. If I need to keep using ENB for some effect, I can always add it on top.

Cannot wait till you fix those light sources in the game. CK come out soon yay gods! I cannot even play Skyrim right now because of the patch and my mods. HOMM 6 is an okay time flyer though.

Hi, Plutoman! Fellow Plutomaniac here...

I'm just wondering about your current release.

What is the difference between the default RL2.0 and the RL with Vanilla lighting? Thank you.

The vanilla has only the vanilla lighting - basically, if you used the plugin on it's own, it wouldn't change anything. It's so if you want to mess with the settings in the ini.. You can do it from the original settings.

The RL2.0 is basically the 1.6b file with the added patcher.

I don't mean to ask it so simple and not in detail. I was just assuming default RL removes fake lighting from Vanilla. So does Vanilla version keep the lighting? How tweaked can it be from there? This is interesting and will probably be the best lighting mod ever.

{edit} I see you've replied just now. Thank you for all your hard work. Ku....Ku.... Kukukudos. :spotted owl:

It can be tweaked to the extents of the ini file - all the parameters, set for any combination of types (so various exterior times and interiors), along with globally.

I'll probably decode the lighting templates and add that into the patcher at some point, too -> allowing customization of ambient lighting and more. Eventually, weather will be added too, but it's a complex record.

So I configure the .ini manually... what do I do with the java file? I'm not sure what to open it with. And what does it do? I'm sorry for the noob questions.
