[RELz] Really AEVWD - Thread #6

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 4:10 am

Nothing much to fear regarding that, but the files go into Data\DistantLOD so that's what you should back up in that case.

Thanks a lot :)
Off to make a BAIN package out of them then
Curious to see what gets replaced :ninja:

I have a Notebook PC
Intel ® Core 2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26 GHz, 2.27 GHz
4 GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT (1 GB memory)

Every time I install this mod it cause a lot of stuttering in my PC.
Is there any special tweak or installation settings to pick to do to lighten my performance problem?

Hrm, not sure how the OMOD works since I use the BAIN package. The BAIN package breaks it down into about 7-8 categories and you can install as much or as little as you want. Since I don't have the greatest system I just install Core, Imperial Forts, and Ayleid Ruins and get no noticeable performance hit.

The OMOD installation script breaks it down into exactly the same pieces and lets you install the categories you want. It even includes the readme description for each category, so I don't understand what Ayleid_people means by not getting much choices. I suggest trying to install with the following priority (though after priority 3 it becomes pretty arbitrary, and City Architecture should be a lower priority if you don't have mods line Verona where you want to be able to see non-valled cities from afar.):

1. Ayleid Ruins & Imperial Forts
2. Wilderness Architecture
3. Statues
4. City Architecture
5. Ships
6. Large Rocks
8. Higher Detail City Walls

So try with a few of them, run TES4LODGen, and if not to bad, maybe try one or two more sets.

Thanks very muchfor the input!
Very handy maybe if I have time i will convert all my installations files to be bain ready (this will need a lot of time as I have + 10 GB folder of OMODs)

Thanks again, problem for me is Elsweyr
maybe there I should select manually what files to install.
I'm sticking now on a old VWD mod for Cyrodiil, maybe it's not as good as Really AEVWD, but it do the job without noticeable FPS hits.

Version 1.8

* Thanks to slide777, all normal maps included in the mod have been stripped of the unnecessary alpha channels which should eliminate any issues with sparkly VWD objects.
* All normal maps were additionally checked to be sure they had no black spots in them, which could contribute to black VWD.
* Some Skingrad castle architecture pieces had incorrect ambient color settings on their material data blocks, resulting in some parts being black.

The SI package was also updated with cleaned normal maps, as well as the Anequina package again to clear the last ones left in the plants folder.

Excellent! Thanks for that - downloading now. :celebration:

Huh. And is the Koldorn ruins VWD new? Or had I just missed it all this time... Either way, fortuitous that I pick it up now. :)

Yeah, the Koldorn one has been there awhile, but I haven't cleaned its normal maps yet. Or the Darker Regal IC one either.

Is there something special you do to make tes4lodgen recognise your _far.nifs? Just asking because i'm working on a mod (only personal use so far) and i can't get my distand files to show up.

Small note: On Nexus, the file header still says it's version 1.7

Nope. They just need to be installed to the proper locations. tes4lodgen will pick them up automatically when you run it next.

I installed this but sadly didn't install it as an OMOD. I am getting really slow framerates outside, especially around the Imperial City.

Re: your tips:

1. uGridDistantCount in the Oblivion.ini file is set to 25 by default. Lowering this to 20 or even 15 will provide a dramatic improvement.

Done- set to 15

2. Use Oblivion Stutter Remover. It will help reduce the impact of loading the extra resources as you change cells.

Installed.

3. Install and configure Streamline to manage fog distance, and if ncecessary, set up the FPS manager too.

Installed, but curious how I setup the FPS manager in it. I have the Streamline.ini open and changed 0 to 1 for FPS smoothing. FPS enhancer is already at 1.
FPS settings are 50 highest and 26 lowest.

Curious if folks have a suggested min & max fog distance setting here (I changed 0 to 1 for SLv.ExtremeClipping):

===================================================================================
; [Streamsight Settings] Refer to documentation for values
;===================================================================================
set SLv.MinDistanceFog to 30000 ; Min distance before fog starts (0%)
set SLv.MaxDistanceFog to 136000 ; Max distance before fog ends (100%)
set SLv.MinWaterFog to 0 ; Min distance before water fog starts
set SLv.MaxWaterFog to 2500 ; Max distance before water fog ends

;-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
set SLv.ExtremeClipping to 1 ; Turn on clipping behind distant fog?
; Gains FPS, but can cause some
; clipping of distant mountains

4. If you run Better Cities, try dropping the Imperial City VWD optional package they provide and re-run TES4LODGen.

I am running Better Cities, and I have just disabled the ImperialCityVWD.esp

5. If you're using any of the optional ESPs from RAEVWD, deactivate them and re-run TES4LODGen. The extra city architecture, especially at the Imperial City, can be harsh.

Done.

6. If you used the higher detail city walls and/or IC bridges, drop those.

I am using them- how do I remove these?

7. If you used the ships and shipwrecks, drop those.

None.

8. If none of that is enough, you may need to leave out all or part of the architecture folder entirely.

Because I have already instaled RAEVWD, what is the best way for me to remove part/all of the three Architecture folders (IC, Wilderness, City) and, if my frames are still slow, remove all of RAEVWD? I did make a backup of my vanilla Data folder, so are there specific folders I can repaste?

I am also running QTP3, Clocks of Cyrodiil, Better Cities, and Unique Landscapes, which I imagine also change the contents of similar meshes and textures folders.

Thanks for any advice folks can provide.

Heh. I wonder if I should have included an "unrealistic expectations" section :)

To expect you'll be able to hold 50 frames is definitely unrealistic. That's unlikely to happen unless you're only installing the core and one or two of the minimalist folders. Especially not with QTP3 in any form.

In order to remove chunks, you should really be using BAIN. Since you said you didn't do this as an OMOD, you should be able to put the archive into BAIN's installer folder and manage things that way from Wrye Bash. The chances that RAEVWD overwrote anything from another mod is pretty small.

Yeah, I think 50 is likely Streamline's default ini setting. I was never really expecting that many fps. I'd be happy with 25-30.

OK, I will have to read up on BAIN. I only use Wryebash for bashed patch building, so I will have to study how to use BAIN's installer folder and how to work with an archive. If you care to share any advice on this, I'd appreciate it, but no worries if not, as this is the thread for RAEVWD and not Wrye Bash. :-)

Hey Arthmoor, I finally got my recovered hard drive back :) Guess how much it cost? The important thing is I got the mods I've been working on back! Anyway I'm now reinstalling everything and I noticed that this has some overlap with the UOP Supplemental 3.2.10. Does it matter which version of the meshes I use? I usually install the UOP first, so I'd be inclined to let RAEVWD overwrite everything. Meshes in question: Boethia Daedric shrine and ANCastleComplete (Anvil Castle). I don't imagine these have changed in a while, but I thought I'd doublecheck. If this has been asked already, my apologies...

Quick question, would a single ATI 5850 be able to run this above 30fps? I've never tried this mod, but always been interested, if not, no biggy, if so, then I'll be happy when I finally get my new rig :)

Doesn't matter. The mesh is the same one in each.

You'll probably have to bring the uGridsDistantCount value down, but otherwise it should be able to handle it. Don't expect it to be able to sustain 30 fps at all times because that's simply unrealistic.

I'm just about to start installing some landscape mods as well as RAEVWD and I just wanted to make sure I'm doing the right thing.
I will be using QTPRedimized and Bomret's Texture pack for SI. Also Xerus LOD as recommended by Brumbek, PK's LOD for those border areas not covered by Xerus, and topped up with Deathb0rn's 1024 LOD normal maps.
The install order I'm thinking of is:
1. QTP3R
2. Bomret's Texture pack for SI
3. RAEVWD
4. RAEVWD for SI
4. RAEVWD QTP3 Texture Pack by Brumbek v1_4
5. RAEVWD SI Bomret Textures
6. PK's LOD
7. Xerus LOD
8. Deathb0rn's 1024 LOD normal maps

Is that the right order?

Dang, I've just spotted the release of Oblivion Makeover from AmpolX. I guess his new texture packs would come after all of the above?

Also, apparently best to use Bain in Wrye Bash to install these so they can easily be swapped out later?

Order looks fine. It doesn't really matter how you install RAEVWD in relation to QTP3 or the landscape LOD stuff.

Where you'd put AmpolX's textures is likely where QTP3R is now because as I understand it he'll be doing nearly everything QTP3R covers. If not, then install his stuff right after QTP3R and allow it to overwrite.

Hi,

I posted this question in it's own thread but I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on the following problem.

How can I get these textures to show up in the distance as well as close up, they just pop into view as I move closer.

You can see the difference in the textures on the bridge and the IC in the distance.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/PJ_Meridian/Oblivion/ICBridgeRyuTextures.jpg

These are the textures I'm using: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14545

Any info appreciated, thanks.
