[RELz] Really AEVWD - Thread #7

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:45 am

Just what's in the readme.... which you should read. :)

i've read the readme  , i did it before creating the omods, but haven't looked at it since

jonwd7 i didn't respond to you because im at work at the moment and haven't had a chance to try any of the things you have listed.

cheers

edit:

Oblivion won't run in multiple monitor mode anyway. It won't even start.

youtube disagrees :P

i wouldn't use anywhere near 180 FOV, i guess i will just have to play around and see what/if it works, 120 would of been nice but it sounds like it doesn't work

Ok, I should have said "under Windows 7 with Nvidia". I had to get ultramon to get Oblivion to even run. I've removed ultramon now and Oblivion still runs, but it won't span to the second monitor, which is fine with me.

Not true; I've seen screenshots from... who...? Deathless Aphrodite? Someone else? There was someone who used to play with multiple monitors before and posted a couple of screenshots of the results. They were pretty awesome.

I don't know if she's doing it on multiple monitors (likely though) but Ismelda has posted some pretty big shots from her game before.

Ahh, Ismelda then, sorry, I couldn't remember who. :ermm: And she's been posting them since long before things like displayport.

She might be still running Win XP. There was actually a lot of complaints about it on the Nvidia forums. Win 7 removed the dual monitor mode. Nvidia used to call this DualView. It allowed you to configure your monitors completely separately. Apparently that caused some kind of issue and Microsoft removed it from Win 7. Now multiple monitors in Win 7 always span. For me, installing ultramon changed the configuration and even after removing it, the fix has remained. If I regenerate my Oblivion ini file, I have to copy the uVideoDeviceIdentifierPart settings from a backup or Oblivion won't even run. However I can't get Oblivion to use my second monitor, although I must admit, I haven't really tried. I mainly want the second monitor for the CS and that works fine.

This is probably all moot point anyway because it appears that the poster has an ATI card anyway. I don't think the Catalyst drivers have the same issue.

Anyway, I think we've derailed Arthmoor's thread enough... :)

Yeah, you wouldn't believe the different this makes! I just created a bare-bones install without this and I'm lost! I can't find anything... I haven't run without RAEVWD for so long that I forgot what it looked like without it.

@Andalay: Right? I have a Wrye profile save for that (Vanilla or "bare-bones" as you put it.) and I load it once in a while to remind me how wonderful it is to roam Cyrodiil. Now I've been searching for a texture pack that doesn't look odd with RAEVWD. Qarls' is just to much for my apparently not up to it 9800GT. MTGR's are so different in color, and Vibrant is just to much for some reason, didn't unpack the omod so I don't know if it was his normal maps or what. Anyone have suggestion on a Texture pack suitable for a mid-range machine?

That's strange. I have that same graphics card and my brief testing shows zero FPS difference between vanilla and full QTP Redimised. Then again, I'm convinced that my PC's bottleneck is the CPU (Pentium D 945).

I use Bomret's, but that's mainly because I find Qarl's just too sharp. Bomret's is gentler on your system too though.

Yes, Bomret's is nice. I also like Detailed Terrain. No impact whatsoever. DT actually seems smoother than Bomret's normalmaps. Kinda toss up for the two on my rig. Though they are the best to not mess with RAEVWD. Vibrant and MGTR will make your head jerk when you transition from LOD to near. But you can really go without...just make sure you install RAEVWD cuz is the bombdiggadee.

I should prolly say that my monitor is 32 inch at 1366x768. I am pushing AA and AF @ 8x with no shadows, forced HDR and bloom (magical with All Natural weather, truly) At the moment, I get some amazing 25-55 fps (outdoor and indoor) averages. I ran through an Oblivion gate, came outside and ran down the hill to Chorrol, the weather was like WOW with the fog transition. I sped them up only a tiny bit. But the colors were crazy cool. I sat there, had to go fetch my brother and show him. He lives a few miles down the road. When we got back, there was a sunset and it starting snowing. Like it was so cool. I felt like the YouTube "Double Rainbow" guy. Made me weep, no really. Sit up in the mountains, watch the dawn hopefully you get a fast fog pattern. IC looks so cool with all the reds on the tower, oranges in the fog. Frikkin see Chorrol from Skingrad if you jump high enough, :P

Its like good times. 8D

I'll back up Bomret's too, though I can't say I've tried Detailed Terrain. Its a really good looking texture pack that's easy on the machine consequentially making it far more suitable to being run with REAVWD than Quarls.

I might look at Q's Redimized. I threw Bomret's in, then DT over that...I'm sure Bomret's had more covered so I got leftover from that. Looks great with either. Really surprised at DT, the grass and roadways, reeallly "jump-out". There is also a "reduced" Wisemans' Texures. Not bad either. So there are choices. Zowwy that looks great from Bruma! Gonna go dust up my horse...

@ Arthmoor,

I have created a Wizard installation script for Really AEVWD. Would you want to add it to the mod's file page on Nexus? Or should I just release it separately?

Would you be willing to just post it in a [ spoiler ] [ code ] ~wizard content~ [ / code ] [ / spoiler ]

So we could all have a look ( Yep I know it should be eyelashes but decided to leave it and imagine people trying that out :) )

Well, yes, I could do that. The only problem with that is it's not just a script. It includes screenshots, and 2 sub-packages that are not a part of the original RAEVWD. The sub-packages are a QTPIII texture pack, and extra rocks.

YEah, if you want to pop me a copy of the wizard I'll include it in the next update. I'm assuming 1.9.1 isn't causing anyone any issues? If so then I may as well recombine everything.

Although I'll still be keeping the QTP3 pack separate. There's no reason to make everyone download that if not everyone will be using it. That's 30MB of stuff that only some people will want.

Simple Question: Can I BYFFI the meshes you have already 'butchered' and send you a link?
Possibly fixing the ones that are not completely 'butchered'.

Thus helping your project?

Permission please? Yes-No?

You may find people less that receptive if you insist on being insulting about it. Since none of the meshes were 'butchered' there wouldn't seem to be much for you to do, yes?

I didn't mean it to be insultive, it is just a meshers point of view.
I'm sorry if that came across as insultive.
I am simply offering better optimised meshes than you already provide.
Altering/degrading a mesh is what I referred to as 'butchered'

I apologize if the post wasn't interpreted correctly.

I guess the correct question would be:

Would you like some help?
Better optimized meshes?

Yes/No?

Provided there is no reduction in visual quality, which is one of RAEVWD's goals. I'm willing to take a look at some examples to compare, sure.

You may find though that the reduction techniques in Milshape 3D are more useful than you realize.

So, would you prefer if I strip the QTPIII stuff from the Wizard? Or make 2 versions? One with and one without?
