Really bad performance question.

Hey, So I've only just started playing Crysis 2, but the problem i'm having is i'm constantly getting really low fps, even with the game running on the lowest setting and the resolution as low as possible.

AS far as i understood my my specs, i should at least be able to run the game on low with decent fps.

My specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.1Ghz (dual core)
Nvidia 9800GT 1Gb
2Gb Ram
Windows 7 ultimate

All the drivers are up too date, i'm just a little confused as too why its running so poorly, Maybe my system can't actually handle it but i'd really appreciate the help, Thanks.

Yeah, could you be a little more specific? I was under the impression that they met the minimum system requirements, forgive me if i'm wrong.

Your rig is fine, patch 1.9 ruined optimization. You can downgrade to 1.8 and game be works smoothly.

I didn't think it could be my system as i can run Crysis 1 on fairly high settings no prob! and I've read about that but the thing is, i haven't done any patches yet so it can't be 1.9 doing it, would patching it too say 1.8 help with optimization? Thanks.

I was pulling around 40fps in MP with my radeon HD5750 when I had it, and that was pre-patch 1.9.

Your's is just a case of needing better specs for your computer mate.

A 9800gt is fairly powerful, it should definitely be enough for Crysis 2 especially if it can run the first game on High

If you don't play MP then reinstall game and install patch 1.8 and fter that launch game only via Crysis2.exe, not launcher

Well i was ruling the card out because it is fairly powerful and it can run anything else I've tried with ease, now i was thinking it was the CPU because its running at %100, but the thing is, they stated in the minimum requirements,

"Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo at 2Ghz, or AMD Athlon 64 x2 2Ghz, or better" Now since my CPU is 1.3Ghz faster i would assume this was enough?
So this also led me to believe it was maybe something else causing the loss in fps.

I will try a re install and patch it too 1.8 and see if that improves it.

Your system RAM is totally lacking.

Your CPU is not up to scratch.

Upgrade RAM and CPU ;)

I believe you need a minimum of 4GB RAM
And at least 3 cores and 2.8Ghz (Might be 3 or something)

I know it isn't the best system out ;) but if it says it meets the requirements, shouldn't you be able to trust them on that? not find out afterwards, i mean i'm talking about playing it on the absolute lowest settings with the lowest resolution,

Upgrading atm is out of the question :/ and as far as i can tell its not running out of RAM atm anyway. But thanks for input :)

you could downgrade to 1.8 patch, mutliplayer might not work, but it would go back to the consolised graphics with less advanced features and run smoother. The minimum requirements went up with the 1.9 patch.

The 9800GT was a very good card at the time but its a few generations old, my 5870 is about 200% more powerful.

Well i tried 1.8 and had no luck :( so now i've installed in on XP and am trying 1.8 on that hoping it works :)

Yeah they get old pretty quick, but still it SHOULD handle it okay at minimum right? :/ i'll be getting a laptop soon anyway so i'm not fussed on upgrading this.

I would have to agree with the other, your cpu and ram is mostly the problem. 2gb on anything above xp isn't enough ram for gaming.

Yeah, you meet minimum spec and that 9800GT is slightly faster than a 8800GT, so really you should be able to play Crysis 2 on high. Strange.

I think it should run quite good making some cfg changes. Perhaps you want to try my LowGraphics Mod here:

https://secure.gamesas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=34056&p=363190&hilit=ahk+scripts#p363190

tested the script on a low end pc (X2 4800+, NV 8800Gts, 4Gb Ram, Win XP) and was able to bring the system up from 25-30 fps to 30-50 fps :).

Give me you opinion...the only known issue now is that you key to open the console has to be (^), otherwise you have to open it manually.
