You don't want to? Why not, you cheap [censored]s?
To everyone defending a publisher's price-gouging, pretend I'm a large corporation that wants to bend you over.
Are you pretending?
Good.
Now you can say how lucky everyone should feel for getting to send me my $10.

Make a Bethesda quality game and I will be glad to play you an extra $10 for it.

The whole game-pricing structure is screwed up. All publishers could solve a lot of their "Used games" problems if they would tier down prices like, well, everything else in the world.

New Release, 59.99

6months Later, 39.99

12Months later 24.99

24Months Later 19.99

Actually most games go from 50 to 20 bucks in under a year. I know the GOTYE of Fallout 3 has been 20 or 30 bucks for at least a year or two now, and it came out in mid '09.

I don't care so much about it being 60, I'm getting the Collectors Edition (like 99% chance) so I'm already paying a bunch extra. But I do agree it stupid that slowly PC games are going up to 60.

Mainstream PC games are 50$ when they come out... end of discussion.

PC games get to be 60$ when console games are 70$.

There is no excuse for pricing the game at 60$ for the PC... you are not paying any licensing fees for the PC! HELLO! And I know you are in no need of increasing revenue.

Todd, I hate you. :swear: And if you so much as [censored] think about selling cut out portions of the game back to us as DLC... :gun:

Valve is pricing Portal 2 at 45$ pre-order special. Valve gives us DLC for FREE! Why don't you be more like them!

...are you comparing a puzzle shooter to TES? Valve has to price Portal 2 that low because it's BORING! Also there is no such thing as "selling cut out portions of the game back to us as DLC", everything that is IN the game is IN the game. They are free to choose how much content to put in the game. They've never to my knowledge had a finished product that they removed part of to sell as DLC. You're such a pretentious imbecile

You're seriously comparing paying 1.2x the traditional price (and now the normal price) for games for possibly the greatest game of all time to giving you $10 for no reason at all?
Uh huh.

The price of the product should at least match its quality. If Skyrim is going to be more expensive to purchase, then it should give better stability, gameplay, story, visuals. Note I placed stability first; if I have to shell out more of my hard earned money for this game, they better not use me as a beta tester. But considering Skyrim has been development for a while, I have high hopes that they give out a more polished game rather than a sequel money grab. Anyway $60-$70 dollars can be a fair price if the game is really good. I'd rather pay for premium craftsmanship that lose some money on absolute crap.

This.

In Bethesda's defense, they've been working on this product for a while now. It's not like a product of made in a year and then hastily pushed out to capitalize on the customer's money. I share the same mentality of alan of "The price of the product should at least match its quality." theoretic. What happens if said customer is disappointed and dissatisfied of the product? Not just the money spent, but the time consumed as well. Sure the customer can rant on the internet, but unknowing to him/her that the company already has the money and will move onto churn out something else. I'm aware and cautious of where the money goes in terms of a product and the company, much like movies also. On the flip side, A $10 game could potentially offer enjoyment and fun and said customer is glad that money went to the company and product (GOG anyone?) The other point is a polished and quality product which has effort and dedication put into it, Don't really see or think many would be happy if said product felt cheaply made in the attempt of taking your money, We'd probably see rage opinions and expressive threads on the internet all due for the fact said company (not naming names) churns out sequels only for your money. Alan's concluding point is a well expressed one, The customer will give the company money if the product is indeed quality. Customers need companies and companies need customers.

Why do gamers as a group seem to feel so indebted to the companies they support? I mean, do people really want to set this sort of precedent? Beth makes the same profit off a PC sale as they do a console sale. The console is priced higher solely due to licensing fees. Beth is certainly not struggling. They are a [censored] powerhouse in the industry, one of the biggest names around. This isn't a charity event. Beth will gouge you for every penny they think they can get away with, that's business. Your responsibility as a consumer is too say "[censored] that!"

I don't feel "indebted" to Bethesda. I simply feel that $60 is the least I could pay for games that are as amazing as the TES series and that I can get 100s (if not 1000s) of hours out of. Not to mention the fact that this type of game takes years to make...they could easily shoot out lower-quality games at a much faster rate and still charge $60 a piece...and I am not willing to pay the full $50 or $60 for the majority of games on the market. I don't care how much profit Beth makes, I don't care if they're one of the biggest names in the industry, I simply think that $60 is a very reasonable price relative to the majority of games out there.

There are people who are perfectly content buying a $5 bottle of wine, and there are those who are willing to pay $500 for a much higher quality bottle of wine. While I'm more of a cheap wine person myself (I'm a college student, after all :celebration: ), when it comes to games, I am willing to pay more for significantly better quality because I appreciate the amount of work that went into the product and the value I will get out of it as a consumer.

valve is selling the game on STEAM its their own platform they make 100$ of the money. bethesda dont make 100% of the money if they sell it on steam. neither if they sell it at EB Games or Gamestop. or walmart

or whatever. Valve can afford to put their price down.

People here are delusional. Price is set by demand, not your vague idea of value.

To us fanatics that frequent places like this forum, sure, we'd be willing to pay a high price. You know how much of the consumer base we are? A very tiny percent.

Pricing the game above average would lower sales from the other, much larger percent of gamers who are not crazed TES fans, and thus would LOSE Bethesda money.

So stop making cases about how much the game is "worth", because those opinions don't count for squat in the market. It should be priced so as to appeal to customers who don't have any preconceived notions about how awesome it is. TES will just be another sequel in a crowded holiday season to most potential buyers, and it doesn't need an inflated price tag limiting its chances.

Seriously. A puzzle shooter with hardly any voice acting, very few characters, and simplistic gameplay mechanics is hardly worth the same amount as a full game.

Do you have any proof that it was a finished portion of the game prior to release?

If you're goingto use a comparison that ridiculous just because of a principle, here's one to match it. Do you mind paying any money at all for food? Then give me all your money. I mean it's just money right? I don't produce food for you and it's not comparable in the least, but it's the principle that matters. You think it is reasonable to not get everything for free, so obviously you won't mind giving me all your money.

That's sweet, pop ten bucks in an envelope and send it to them. That's your prerogative. The fact is lots of people would be perfectly happy paying Beth a hundred dollars for a game. That doesn't mean that's a legitimate pricing plan.
There are people who are perfectly content buying a $5 bottle of wine, and there are those who are willing to pay $500 for a much higher quality bottle of wine. Wine pricing is silly in it's own right. Comparing it to video game pricing is sillier still. The fact remains, that these high prices exist not because a company needs that money to stay in business, but because a great number of consumers are very eager to part with their money.

That's a fallacious argument. $10 might seem unimportant in buying a certain product but giving you $10 for nothing is obviously a waste

Do you know what a principle is?

I know what a principle is. Complaining about something isn't a principled thing to do. Making serious efforts to stop something is what people do for their principles. Complaining like a child isn't going to get you anything but disrespect and scorn from your peers. If you think it shouldn't be $60 then don't buy it, that's called voting with your wallet and it's what advlts do

The fact of the matter is that, while PC games have traditionally been $10 less than current-gen console games, there are several new PC games on Steam that are $60. So, the industry in general is starting to poke at the idea of upping the average cost.

Prices rise.

It svcks, but that's life.

It's not some grand conspiracy by Bethesda to deliberately piss you off.

So you don't think the 'powers that be' would pull the plug on BGS if they failed to maximize profits by selling their games at the price customers are willing to pay? I think they do need to sell it at these "high" prices to stay in business.

I don't disagree with your point...they price it at $60 because customers are willing to pay $60. I'm simply saying that I have no problem paying $60 because of all the reasons stated previously. They would be incredibly stupid to sell the game at $50 when people are clearly willing to pay $60. Thus, my answer to the original post is that it should be priced at $60.
