Really Bethhesda, bottles still don't stay on tables!?!?!?!?

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 3:21 pm

Yeah. Not only bottles. lol.

I found a nice vase with flowers. I thought to spare it and put it on my clothing shelf. The vase eventually stuck within the shelf after a while.. lol

If you are on PC download OCDecorator. If you aren't you will just have to wait on the console version of OCDecorator or approximity of whenever Bethesda fires up the Bethesda.net mods for consoles.

I don't know what happened, but in my case, things stopped to fall through. It might be after last patch, I am not sure. I play on PC. I had this problem at the beginning, but I don't have it anymore. When I place things in normal mode (not workshop mode), they stay in place. I can even place tools on to tool stands on the walls, they don't fall anymore.

Strange, I decorate my settlements/houses a lot with various items and only once (in my first playthrough) I've seen items drop to the floor. Although they were on a table close to a chair so might just have been an npc who knocked them over when sitting down (ironically this was actually a pool table).

Seems there's more people who haven't experienced it either. So yea, strange its not happening to everyone.

put a bottle on a table in building mode, exit building mode and pick it up manually then drop it again. It will never fall through a table.

Don't get me started on bottles. What's worse than them falling through supposedly solid surfaces is that it took me 20 minutes to stand it upright on that surface. For the life of me I can't figure out why it should be so hard to rotate an object to its correct position :sadvaultboy:

it would definitely help if there was some way to control rotation of the object in "hold" mode. For now, you have to use other surfaces to rotate it the way you want. Corners of the walls are good for it. You can also place object in workshop mode, then pick it up, but that will use only default rotation. Default is one you often need (like with bottles) so it works most of the time.

While it may work for (some) bottles, it definitely doesn't work for all items. I've tried all of the suggested techniques for placing a globe on a side table and the globe always started sinking into it. I've placed a kitchen scale that didn't sink, but definitely moved out of position. I've been watching it closely. I've had items that worked just fine for a while, but as soon as I placed a "troublesome" item, they *all* started sinking even if they had never sunk before. Bread box sunk into a counter. Coffee tin went onto the floor and sunk into it so that only its lid was visible before I pulled it out. Salt and pepper shakers in Red Rocket sunk, but are doing fine so far in a Sanctuary house. Lost at least one nuka cola truck.

I've placed items in build mode. Some of them sink.

I've placed them in grab mode. Some of them sink.

I've placed them in build mode and then grabbed and placed. Some of them sink.

There is no technique that always works to prevent the sinking, at least in the vanilla game on XB1. The only fix is going to come from Bethesda or from a mod (that I personally don't think is really going to happen on consoles, but we'll see), so it really would be best for Bethesda to fix it for everyone.

Items used to sink no matter in what mode I have placed them. All of them. For some reason they stooped. All of them. Globe does not sink for me. I have no idea what happened, I did not install any mod, new hardware or adjusted settings. I did turn Full Screen mode off so you may try it although I see no reason how that should cause change. Only thing I can think of is last patch, but I assume all players who still have problem with items sinking have last patch installed as well.

I do use PC however.

Try putting some ammo on a table and see what happens. I dropped some different rounds of ammo just to see what they looked like and place them on a table. It was like they were magnetic and opposite charge of the table. Except the 5.56 ammo it just stayed in mid air when I tried to place it.

Right. Ok. Noted.

Now then, bear in mind, that I play the game because I LIKE the game. ONE of the reasons I like it, is because I can decorate my house. That is NOT the ONLY reason I play the game. It is not even game-breaking, it's just annoying. Kinda like folks telling me to "play some other game" because I find ONE aspect of an otherwise cool game annoying........

As written above: Got hold of the gilded grasshopper and placed it on a table in Diamond City/Home Plate.

Next time I returned, nothing...

Well, I've tried just about every suggestion, and can honestly say that there is no real rhyme or reason. Manipulation and placement of objects seems to have gotten incrementally worse each game BGS has done since Oblivion. Either it's not a priority with them, or it's way down on the lists of fixing compared to more "glamorous" issues. Initially I couldn't believe we had no way to reposition on object short of dragging it along a solid surface. Must be that the fallout has reduced our motor skills. Thankfully moving it about in workshop mode is viable, but not all objects can be done this way. Objects that you can't "take", like bushel baskets or the wire office rubbish cans are not manageable this way. I've set up a nice lab for Curie in one of my fortresses, and all of the circuit boards and tech items have stayed in place on the bench. But the chemistry items keep falling over or even disappearing. The slender blue "pre war" lamp kept falling through the end table so I tried putting a chessboard in between. Now the lamp levitates upside down above both by about 3 feet. Go figure
