Really Bethhesda, bottles still don't stay on tables!?!?!?!?

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 11:40 am

Bottles are sinking through to the floor on all my tables. Pool table is the only one that seems to be stable. Why I ask you, WHY?

Edit: for context, Skyrim had this problem all over the place.

Ya games with physics engines have that problem, they did not have enough time to make sure every surface in the game clips, it would be very time consuming to do and very boring.

you're talking about settlements?

I never saw bottles clipping through tables in pre-built locations

My favourite 'classic' bug is the one where you walk thru or near water and the game creates a false bow wave about 15 feet in front of you. First saw that in Oblivion, so well done Beth on keeping that bit of broken code for a full decade.

Yeah, I have seen some strange stuff just kinda floating in space....... I have also given up trying to decorate my home with various cool items found in the wild. They simply do not stay put. Not on shelves, not on desks, not even on the floor. Usually, they just fall to the next surface, but, I have had several items just disappear altogether..... I have also WATCHED things I have killed disappear thru the floor....... and THAT can be highly annoying.... I was pissed when I watched the legendary feral ghoul I had just spent five minutes trying to kill, fall right thru the floor, and out of reach for looting. So, I just toggled collision off, and went looking for him. I should NOT have to do that.... Console players CAN'T do that......

The physics have been overly simplified. Go back to any game prior to Skyrim and objects don't act that way. Moreover, they are more easily manipulated. You used to be able to grab an object by one side or another to turn it or flip it or otherwise position it and it would stay exactly where you left it. If you grabbed it on the right edge and lifted, the right edge would lift and the left would drop, for example.

Now objects only seem to have one grab point and you are left trying to rotate or flip it by scraping it against other objects and whatnot, which of course will knock anything else that isn't nailed down out of their positions.

The only bottles that will stay in place are Nuka Cola and Nuka Cola Cherry, at least that's my experience. Wine, Whiskey, Beer etc will always fall through the table. I even find them outside the house at times... so I don't even bother with those anymore, just like a lot of other items I used to decorate with. This falling through the floor/cabinet and even disappearing beneath the building, if you build on platforms, is getting old.

Who said i found the thread annoying? I'm just giving him advice... there are plenty of other games out there with better physics so if he feels like playing house decorater he should play a game about that instead of posting on a forum about something Bethesda will never fix because Skyrim is a completed product.

Yeah it's not just bottles though, lots of things move through tables.

Like those buildable toy robots you can find that are just made to be displayed. I think there's only one that, on the same shelf, manages to stay put.

I'm sure there's a mod that makes items stay where they are.

This problem is much, much worse than in Skyrim. I have never seen a single item in Skyrim sink through a surface and disappear after decorating. The only issue in Skyrim is that you have to drop your items on the floor, then save and reload in another cell before grabbing those items to decorate or else they will return to wherever they were originally dropped, but once the items are in place, they stay there unless someone knocks them over. Same with Fallout 3. There was never a risk of outright losing an item due to it falling through the world.

You can't even use the save and reload workaround in Fallout 4 because it's not the same problem at all. It's worse.

And before someone tells me to go play a house-decorating game if I don't like this bug, I will reply that house building and decorating is an intended part of this game. The bug needs to be fixed.

This is one of my bigger gripes about the settlement system. They provided us with plenty of shelf and table options, so I'm assuming the intention was to let us custom decorate. At least in Skyrim us console players could use the "dump junk on ground, zone out, zone back in" trick, unfortunately that's not even an option this time around.

I have three different characters with badass, yet barren, bases built. I keep all the cool stuff I've collected in chests, hoping for Bethesda to fix this. Otherwise, hopefully a modder will make a fix that will also work on consoles.

Let me give you a demonstration of what happens when you are running at high fps without v-sync on Bethesda games. :o

I have had a full set of wine and spirits sitting on a table with a box of cigars, a shot glass, a clean ashtray, a gold flip lighter, and a lit cigar sitting there for a long time now and they only ever once fell off (and only because i sneezed when trying to add the flip lighter to it all after everything was set)

Skyrim introduced an bug where objects dropped would return to the dropped location on cell reload.

Horribly frustrating and not pressent in Oblivion. Not sure if this is the problem in FO4, falling trough table sounds more like cells are loaded with gravity and if bottles is placed before table they start to fall then the table is placed.

Ah that means it's time to put another member on the ignore list! :D

OT: Yea, I've stuff placed on tables fall through more than said table, but into the floor itself and out of this world.

I'm not sure if Bethesda will fix the issue.

WTF *is* your problem, mate?

Every post I've seen you make has been mean-spirited #$%& like this. Everyone mouths off from time to time, myself included, but it's ALL you seem to do.

Grow the #$%& up.

OT: Yes, hugely annoying. I hope they fix it, or at least give us console players access to a mod that fixes it.
