Not directly.
But they did do some sort of competition to get your username put into Baldur's Gate Throne of Baahl. I can't remember if the folks had to submit write-ups, backstories, or a popular vote. But 2 board members' names were put into the game: Gromnir and ...Neebler? There was much forum rankor after the two were chosen, and Gaider vowed to never do it again.
Found a link with some insight:

Ah, and a good post by Gromnir's Ghost (yes, that's actually Gromnir, the namesake of the character in ToB)
couple examples...
the contest for bg2 were a submit-a-character kinda thing.
2 winners: scimitar throwing thief & wild mage githyanki
bio announces winners and chaos errupts. "How could you have chosen those two?" these two guys who made submissions were publically eviscerated by the community, and it were ugly. s'posed respected 'members o' the community made complete arses out of self.
nwn had a contest too... another character submission thing, but bioware reasoned that if the community didn't like their choices, they would allow the community to vote. *groan* any guesses as to what happened?
cheating were rampant and chaos ensued...
etc.
every time the biowarians has a contest that requires submission and judgings, they get Lord of the Flies.
HA! Good Fun!
