I really hope Skyrim is.......

Halo 2!

Huge, huge disappointment for me. I must have watched that demo level a hundred times. I was severely disappointed when I got the game. The campaign was nowhere near as good as halo 1's. In fact, none of the other halos' campaigns have been nearly as good.

Not only that, but I have had much more fun playing halo pc multiplayer than any of the other halo games as well.

But anyways, I seriously doubt the skyrim will disappoint me. First game I have been this hyped about since halo 2 actually.

You know, I felt the same way about Halo 2. And people talk about it like it was the best FPS ever. Boggles my mind, but that's neither here nor there.

Hype meters reflect the polar opposite of actual satisfaction.

The higher your hype meter when you get the game, the less satisfied you will be with it.

Well, I'm sure it'll be the best one yet. And even if it isn't, it can't get much worse than closing Oblivion Gates.

Tiberian Twilight.
Was the first CnC I didn't bought but got presented by the Community Manager.

Tested an early build and was like... wtF, what did you guys do with my favourite RTS franchise????!!
After the Q&A the whole dev-team was like :sadvaultboy:

In the end I played the Nod campaign and was just... oh.. that was crap.
Never ended GDI.
I am pretty happy about having a restart of the series withing the next year.

But about Skyrim, I am so freakin excited and I am really looking forward playing this game. I am pretty sure it will be awesome but I don't expect to much differences from Oblivion so I won't get overhyped. Don't expect a new Morrowind but since we have great modders out there I am pretty sure sooner or later the game will be awesome, even if it isn't at release.

I too bought Two Worlds II thinking it was going to be "the next Oblivion". It wasn't. It just felt so... empty, not in terms of content but in terms of lore, imagination and sense of wonder. I might give it another try before Skyrim comes out, though.

Two Worlds II is okay if you accept the fact that it's not even close to being in the same league as TES before actually playing it. Expecting it to be "the next Oblivion" is just too unrealistic.

It has a few good things going for it, like the crafting system... but you're right about it being kind've empty. They seemed to just throw a bunch of fantasy cliches into a blender rather than coming up with any kind of meaningful lore or culture.

Skyrim will be legendary. It will forever be remembered through the annals of time as the greatest of all time.

Hopefully you're kidding, or at least trolling. Definitely nowhere to go but down with comments like this.. hopefully you're right, likely you're not.

Games that let me down:

Oblivion - was a big downer for me. Don't get me wrong I had fun playing it, but it was over-hyped. It over-promised and under-delivered. It wasn't what I had hoped it would be.

Red Dead Redemption - so many boring, meaningless quests. Roundup these horses, Ride this carriage and shoot the followers, stop this robbery, etc. I stopped caring about a lot of it. There didn't for me seem to be any connection to the story or characters..

MGS4 - I've played MG since it's inception and every iteration becomes more cutscene-laden, with over-the-top characters. Guess it's just no longer for me.

Call of Duty Series - single player is always fun but too short and a little too much on arcade rails. Multiplayer is full of 12 year old 1337 haxorz kiddiez. woot.

Games that met the hype:

Fallout 3 - was a big step up for Bethesda in their evolution of open world games IMO. Loved it. Hopefully BGS can carry forward that momentum into Skyrim.

Uncharted Series - lived up to the hype and then some.

Bioshock Series - unique art direction, solid gameplay, intense story, and did I mention Bid Daddies?

Ico & Shadow of the Colossus - well there was no hype so how could they go wrong. At the same time how could they possibly have done any better? The Last Guardian anyone? :)

Assassians creed 1

Dragon age 2

I agree with last post. If you didn't think 2 worlds 2 was going to be awesome you won't be disappointed.

Yet to be let down by a tes game

Mercenaries 2: I preordered it for the PS2 back when I didnt have a Xbox 360. It was my first ever pre order, I got it and played it. I was sorely dissapointed, but then I got it for the Xbox 360 when I got one and I liked it a lot. THe DLC svcked. I am just sad EA had to close down Pandemic Studios.
Now about Brink and RAGE: They werent made by Bethesda, just published, so that means thats not their work, so we cant already think Skyrim isnt going to be awesome. We have to think about the past games they made, and how they are going to make Skyrim awesome.

How is RAGE a letdown?

Although I'm more oriented toward realism and mil-sim, all I can say is that I quit watching the video from it when it appeared to be forced 3rd person while driving vehicles.

BF3 is fun because the gameplay is a bit slower, but the battles feel more epic and real and there is much more strategy to it with the heavy emphasis on vehicles.

You should try Arma2, using ACE and ACRE mods. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nF2HOE8cxs of slow gameplay, that actually rules wrt immersion level.

Dragon Age 2 ....

It took three pages for someone to put dragon age 2 in as a disappointment? Despite EA I trusted bioware before dragon age 2.

How did that happen. This is a forum for an RPG. We should know the big RPG disappointments.

Also I found bioshock 2 to be a disappointment.

I try not to buy into hype if I don't know the series so if I'm disappointed by a game it's probably a sequel otherwise I'm being really careful with my hopes.

lol Spore. If you watch some of the early development videos it wasnt so cartoony, more vicious life simulator. THAT GAME WAS CRAP.

Lol, indeed. I didn't even get it out of principle because of its BS DRM.

I was ready to buy, then I thought "F it".

biggest letdown would be WoW from right before bc until now. kinda like an evolution of love to rage to apathy. i'm sure other people here loved wc3 and the personality of its modest lore, I was so amped for that game when I was younger it couldn't be described.

Skyrim and Elder Scrolls games are a weird beast, so I know I won't be letdown which is a relief. The development cycles are too long, and too many people are invested into the lore and atmosphere of the world for them to ever fail unless they REALLY made some poor decisions. They don't even have competition. Some people might say Dark Souls, which is a amazing game, but it just isn't the same. I really feel like skyrim's strongest point will be in having an immersive world with style, mystery, and a darker edge than oblivion.

For me the biggest example was Oblivion. I was as hyped as many of the people here are currently for Skyrim. As I played it I kept hitting disappointment after disappointment. Never had to stop a game in the first day before and mod some corrections just to make it enjoyable.

I really hope Skyrim is going to be amazing....I loved Morrowind and Oblivion.....I think I played 400+ hours of Oblivion alone.... My hype meter was pushing the limits for Skyrim, for some I am less excited..... I was pumped up for Rage and it seem like its average at best I thought Rage was going to be epic with Carmack leading the development/Programming.....

I hope Skyrim is what I envision...... I will try and keep my cool and not get to hyped..... because Rage seems like a let down....

name one game you were pumped up for and the when it came out it was not what you were expecting...and you were let down...
It better be amazing! AND! It better not do what Rage is doing! I saw a number of topics about low res textures and CTD problems with no fix date, etc. the other day.

Unreal 2. First game I ever bought that I just could not make myself finish. It had outstanding graphics for the day, but man what terrible gameplay.

Dragon Age 2. Never bought it as the demo and player reviews confirmed my fears. I loved DAO.

Spore was a bit of a letdown for me to be honest. I mean if they made it adhere more to actual principles of adaptation and evolution it would have been a much more better game.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 was a MASSIVE disappointment for me THAT GAME svckS SO MUCH [censored]IN ASS!!! WAIST OF $50 AND MY VALUABLE TIME! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH :banghead:

Spore, Fable 1 (I stayed away from the sequels), Black & White.

Ugh, and Torino 2006, olympics game lol. Bought that together with Morrowind. Torino cost 30euros, MW cost 5euros. Talk about swapping price labels.

Duke Nukem Forever was my biggest let down. I wanted it to be amazing, I was so pumped, and when I finally played it, I got a cheap Halo clone, where Duke could only hold two weapons, terrible physics, a storyline that was both offensive and boring at the same time, Duke quoting internet memes, and just an overall bad game. Bah!

Same thing for me, and don't forget the PS2 Styled graphics, where when you jump your legs just bend a bit and you float up into the air.
An even bigger let down for me was honestly AC: Brotherhood, I wanted a new story and adventure in the world of Ezio, but I got sort of a AC2 Clone, without as much freedom, and being stuck in one city for 99% of the game. I liked the new assassin aspect to it, but wanted to suicide when they broke Altairs armor. [THANKS UBISOFT, IT TOOK ME ABOUT A WEEK TO GET THAT, AND YOU DESTROY IT IN HALF A SECOND. WHAT HAPPEN TO INDESTRUCTIBLE?]
