REALLY LOUD collisions O.o

So I have the PC version of oblivion and while playing, any and all collision noises (arrows, player running into walls, roots, tables, trees, chairs, "actors", or anything), the collision noise of "bang" that is, is about 400 times the volume of anything else (other sound effects are appropriate levels). It's incredibly crazy freaking loud. I've tried to use the construction set to locate the collision sound effect file specifically to see if there was a way to turn it down without affecting any of the other game volumes, but I've sort of come up empty handed in my endeavors. As much as I'd love to hear the game... The only solution that I've found was to just play the game muted.

Has anybody else had this particular problem? And if so, anyone know the solution?

Also happens on lighting spell collisions too...only lighting bolts....

It seams like some sounds like rat squeaks, it can't find or is corrupted, and anything like the Doppler effect isn't active... so if I shoot an arrow, I'll hear the "hit" as if it were right on top of me, no matter the distance.
