I really need mods....

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:38 pm

Just a week into Skyrim....

I've already killed dragons. I've already turned into a werewolf. I've already found many npc followers. I've already got married. I've already bought an house. I've already become the leader of my guild.

Perhaps it's because of all the instant gratification this game provides. Perhaps it's because, after so much more of the same (Oblivion, Shivering Isles, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas), the novelty has worn off and Skyrim really doesn't feel like anything new to me.

But, one week after I bought Skyrim, I'm already kind of bored of playing it. I guess I need mods for crazy things, because back in the other Bethesda games, I'd use lots of mods to constantly change and renew my game experience. At least, I hope mods would solve the boredom.

Guess skyrim is not the right game for you or you're just playing it wrong ^^ I haven't really done anything in this week and just explored 2-3 of the main cities. Just stroll around, gazing at those landscapes, finding little details and awesome places.

I don't know.... perhaps after playing so many Bethesda games, I'm tired of strolling around at random without doing much of anything. I want an objective to reach. But every objective I wanted to achieve, I reached it within a week. Werewolf, guild, spouse, dragon, follower, everything. And I didn't even play the game that much, mind you.

I've played Oblivion (and Shivering Isles) for countless hours. The same thing goes for Fallout 3. I've played New Vegas less, but it still lasted me about two months before I abandoned it. Now, with Skyrim, after one week I already don't feel like I want to play it. I wonder, is it an inherent problem of the game? Is it just me feeling that every Bethesda game I'm playing is still the same game repeated again and again? What is the problem?

I kind of struggle to understand why people want to post this sort of thing. You've obviously played the game a lot - or enough for doing what you wanted to do - and now it's not taking your interest as much. That's perfectly natural. The idea that it is some fault of the game - especially when you've already played previous games similar to it - is a bit silly.

If it was a case that every single mission is the same, and all the NPCs are the same, and there's really nothing to do - then, you'd have a point. But there are all these posts going around of "I've played the game and now I don't want to play it anymore" as thought it's the fault of the devs. I just don't get it.

I can't imagine the amount of hours you spent powering through all that in one week - I'd be bored of it too! Everything in moderation. I love a thick rare steak, but I'm not about to gorge on it for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, it would make me sick.
Go mod it if you want, but maybe you should just leave it for a bit and do something else.

This, basically. Skyrim, if anything, provides more random content than any previous title. And if you've played it this much, maybe you're done with it for now?

Personally, I'm 85 hours into my first character (warrior) and not done by a long shot. I'll probably wear this one out at 120-150 hours, after which I plan on a thief and a mage to pull about the same numbers. I'm just loving the game and loving it more every minute I play it. To each his own, I guess.

I've been playing since the 12th and only at level 19. That's how it should be played.

Looks like you didn't read my posts with attention.

I've specifically stated that I've played this game only for one week, and not for much (I did also clearly mention this game gives too much instant gratification, since playing Skyrim for two hours a day, in just a week I've already done everything I've wanted). I've stated that I've played previous Bethesda games for hours during a months-long time span, without getting bored.

So, you see? Had I been playing this game a lot, there would be no point in me making this topic. Heck, I've never made a "I've played Oblivion/Fallout for months and I'm bored of it now!" because, what?

But I'm making a "I've played Skyrim for a week and I'm bored of it now!" because now THAT is a problem.

EDIT: guys, no, you misunderstand. Had I been playing Skyrim a lot, there would be absolutely no point in me making a post saying that I got bored of it. What I'm saying it, I've been playing Skyrim for two hours a day and in just one week I've already done everything I wanted (honest) and I already got bored.

This.

I have started walking around doing quests in the Rift and I must say it is my favorite hold by far. These types of games are not all about the killing, they are about the adventure to be had on the way to killing. Also, if you have not done it yet, challenge the dude to the drinking contest, you might enjoy it.

Well, have you just been going from quest to quest then? It sounds like you're just a very goal-oriented person (not a bad thing at all!), and maybe you've achieved so much because you've never really stopped in-game. Ever read a series of books? Or just gone for a walk in an area you've never been to just to see what was there? I think Skyrim can have that instant gratification if you want it that way, but maybe if you play like it's about the journey, not the destination, you might get that freshness back. :)

Also, have you completed all the guilds? Maybe create a new character, but really get into roleplaying. There's a few threads around here that could give you some inspiration for some new ways to play the game.

Of all those games, Skyrim offers the most content and stuff vanilla-wise, and that's the game that you got done with the fastest?

Personally I've reached level 15 a few times without having done anything quest wise, I am now happy with my new character and have reached level 17 and I'm halfway in to the main quest, I will put the main quest aside for now, maybe join a guild. but not really finish any quests, do random quests instead, in my experience once all the major quests are finished that's when you hit the head in the ceiling of the game and realize that it's not "unlimited". As long as I dont finish the quests the game seems alive and I feel as if anything can happen and most of the game content is still unexplored. Played Morrowind for 2 years without finishing the mainquest, and I didnt touch the Oblivion MQ for a few months, the game felt immidiately more empty, dead and boring after the game was "finished", the same goes for Fallout.

No, I understand what you're saying. Nearly every reply goes along the lines of "well I play for five minutes a day and spend four minutes of that watching salmon jump up a waterfall - you're playing it wrong!" The reality is that you need to turn of your compass and fast travel, and restart the game playing with your only fast travel as carriages. I bet you double your play time and feel a little bit more immersed and challenged than the first run through. That said, it doesn't fix the six guild wonder that is the companions guild, nor any of the other short quest lines.
