Really? No New Reno or Area 51 DLCs?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 1:57 pm

I am shocked at this. This is just the worst thing I think Obsidian has done. New Reno, probably the best town in the Fallout universe, not in a DLC! Area 51 is not in a DLC. All I have to say is wow! You make a game like Fallout based in Las Vegas and you don’t add Area 51. WTF!?!? I am just appalled at this, and I will never forgive this, truly. Sure it is a game and still a good one, but not doing some obvious things; in addition, many people wanted them.

While I'd be amused by New Reno since I loved New Reno, the more distance Fallout gets from their random "lolololol ALIENS!!!!11one" inserts the better. I imagine an Area 51 DLC would have played out like Mothership Zeta 2, and that's a financial mistake I don't need to make again.

I agree, though they could make the Alien part a minor area.

This is true, but without the allure of extraterrestrial contact and research that shrouds Area 51 in urban legend mythos you'd just be left with a sprawling high-security compound where they're testing a great deal of experimental technolo-- this is starting to sound a lot like Old World Blues, ain't it?

That gets me really pist. Why the hell would they had Big Mountain and not Area 51?!?! Go ahead and not make it now, but they should have really thought of these things at the drawing table.

I imagine its because Big Mountain represented an opportunity for the writers to come up with their own history, lore, urban legends, backgrounds, etc. rather than trying to bank on an iconic location instead. However, as we move further east you may at least see a Roswell, New Mexico add-on or story bit in Fallout 4?

Though it would be cool but the devs said it's a little too far from the Vegas

I love the Big Empty, and the originality that came with it.

They most likely have. And they have most probably put a LOT more thought into it than you have.

We have already been to New Reno in previous titles, plus those territories have already amply been covered in New Vegas (the 30's prohibitionist vibe aside), so I can see why they'd want to just go for something new entirely.

What's the point of Area 51? If the Fallout universe is lacking anything, it's certainly not top secret government bases that house assorted black projects and dubious scientific experiments. Fallout 1 has the Glow and the Mariposa Military Base, Fallout 2 has the Sierra Army Depot, Fallout 3 has the Pentagon turned into one of these. And New Vegas has, of course, Big MT.

And you were honestly expecting New Reno? In a game that's named for and revolves around a similar enough locale? Christ. Just play Fallout 2 if you want to keep treading old ground.

New Reno has been done, in a full game, and the Devs even said Area 51 is too far away or something.
To me going the the Big MT was going to Area 51, it was just as high-tech and had enough creatures there to pass as alien/freak experiments.

New Reno, though a nice locale, seems a bit redundant when you conisder that The Strip carries some of it's themes.
Area 51, might seem like the obvious thing to do, but they probably didn't want to go for the obvious and bring their own stuff to it. They did that with OWB.

Overall you are deluded to think that they is some sort of affront to your sensibility. They can do as they please with their DLC.

No, they DID.

I specifically remember people wondering if the Big Empty was Area 51 and people worrying about aliens until finally a dev jumped in and said it wasn't and that they really didn't wanna touch the alien idea. Can't remember what reason was given though, just that they weren't fond of aliens.

I don't care if New Reno was already in a different game. New Reno is just amazing! They should have added it. In addition, no one said Area 51 had to have aliens.

What would be the point of vistitng New Reno, what kind of quests would you do? Who would be the people in need of help and their opposition? Just some crime lords. NCR has pretty dominant control in the area around it too. It would seem pointless to go to New Reno, when New Vegas is already in the game.

Did you know that: 1) I don't know how and never will learn how to make mods. And 2) I have the Xbox 360 version.

So remember this, people have other systems.

One kind is side with the Wrights. They still have power in New Reno and the are against the NCR. Maybe side with Mr. Bishop and help the NCR fully take over New Reno. Maybe you can start your own family. There are a lot of options. In addition, New Reno is ran like the Mafia while Vegas really isnt. Plus there are no real quest in Vegas. Like help the Omertas beat Mr. House and take over New Vegas. Otherwise all that is in Vegas is House and the Casinos.

Yes but in Vegas there is the whole outside area which is in a war. In New Reno, not so much. I could see it now, the player is just an errand boy the entire DLC, delivering messages and warning throughout the whole thing, and occasionally killing a guy.

How dare they come up with unique and engaging locations, rather than rehashing old ones or re-visiting overplayed cultural icons?!

I am not saying make a whole new game on New Reno, just a DLC. You don't actually have to be the errand boy. Be an enforcer or as I said maybe start your own family. Plus those are just my quick ideas. Real writers and people that could think better at these subjects could probably get a large number of quests going on.

I could easily live without Dead Money. New Reno or Area 51 would of probably of made better DLCs

Oh, totally.
Who really wanted to find out what happened to Elijah anyhow? God/Dog and the other new characters were interesting, but I'd much rather visit a old airforce base that we have seen portrayed hundreds of times before than visit a new unique location with it's own history and new survival based gameplay. Or even better, they could take an awesome location from a older game, and shoehorn it into a new engine that will strip it of everything we loved.
