Really stupid, I mean really stupid question......

......about potions.

OK, so up until this point the only type of potion I would use is healing, restore magika or for enchanting. I have used poisons on my bow or sword in the past so I know how to apply them to weapons. But what about being that I'm currently playing as a mage? For instance I know draugr are weak to fire, so how would I apply a weakness to fire potion on them so I can use my fire spells? Just wandering.

Not a stupid question at all.

Poison a dagger or sword.

So it has to be by weapon then right? Whether by regular or bound?

Yes, you cannot poison your fists or paws. My Khajiit player resent that. :stare:

Also, it's not a stupid question. :)

Since you can't get enemies to drink the potion you have to inject it somehow. Arrows are good for applying poisons/potions from afar.

Conjured bow is the best idea. Mind you i think it was very stupid for bethesda to remove the weakness to element spells....

Draugr, and other undead, are immune to poison. But for alive things, yes you have to use a weapon.

It goes against roleplaying as a mage, but you can also reverse pickpocket living NPC's to poison them. Does not work on undead of course. ;)

I'm afraid that not only are the Draugr immune to poisons, they are not weak to fire. This is a misconception and no doubt an oversight. One would think the dried bones and cloth remnants would be easier to ignite. Sadly, that is not the case. They are no more affected by fire than other NPCs.

It says here that Draugr are weak to fire. 3rd paragraph.

That WIKI is not as well monitored as the UESP. Only use the WIKI as a cross reference. While the USEP is flawed, it is maintained to a higher standard of accuracy.

None the less, the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Draugr#Characteristics noted here should be regarded as accurate information. If you look at the Draugr in the CK, they are not scripted to be weak to fire.

I dunno, maybe it's just me but I notice that draugr fry more when I fling fireballs at them vs regular human opponents.

It's wrong. I thought this too, but I just double checked the creation kit.

This is the Draugr abilities:

Resist frost 50%

Draugr Glow Eyes(This is what makes their eyes glow)

Waterbreathing

Resist Poison 100%

They should be weak to fire as undead in past TES games have traditionally been. But human error/oversight/11/11/11/blahblah

The CK is the absolute. Above all WIKI, the CK is where it is applied before the game even starts up.

It could appear that way from the total health. A shot of fire to an enemy with 100 health may take the bar down by 50%. While the same shot to an enemy with a health bar of 500 will only be dented.

You can also poison a weapon and give it to a companion just before combat, it helps to have the alchemy perk which doubles up the hits poisons last for.

You would need a high alchemy level and appropriate perks to do this effectively though.

Potions with the Fortify Destruction effect actually do increase damage. That would seem to fit a mage better than a poison to me.
