I really thought TES V would be set in summerset isle

in oblivion i heard two mages talking about how 'the greybeards are saying the end is near', or something like that, so there are hints of skyrim too.

Well... the Underking's dead, no? He could be mentioned as he was in Morrowind's introduction and Sancre Tor in Oblivion, but I doubt anything would have been mentioned about such a trivial part of Skyrim. Still, the Underking's dead. Hmm...

Well, isn't it speculated that the Underking was actually King Wulfharth from SKYRIM, as stated in a book in Morrowind? (The Arcturian Heresy, according to UESP). And also according to UESP (I know a lot of people here say it's not a reliable source, and I'm not too much of a lore fanatic, so much of this may be wrong), there were many other people who had the title of "The Underking." Idk. I just think it's an interesting concept. And I could have SWORN that I read something about the Underking in Skyrim. But, it was most likely a forum topic on here that just made me confused.

I do think that Bethesda will be tackling Summerset sometime soon, no later than TES VII. Skyrim, whilst sure to be an amazing full-fledged game in its own right, serves the dual purpose of acquainting Bethesda with their Creation Engine and experimenting to see how well the new perk system will work. Once they have the new gameplay perfected and a more refined artistic direction to work with (for example, so far Skyrim seems to use a far more "natural" color palette than Oblivion and Morrowind), I'm sure many of the developers will be eager to do another exotic setting.

It'd also be a chance for them to make an incredibly literal Morrowind 2.0 and regain the approval of some of the people on the forum, although I'm certainly hoping it'll be much more than that.

A Morrowind 2.0? Vvardenfell was mostly an ash-covered rock. I'd picture Summerset Isle as being more like the Shivering Isles exotic than Morrowind exotic (vibrant, plant-filled exotic, not nomadic ashlander exotic). The term exotic isn't some universal term that means two places falling under it are the same... or follow the same gameplay mechanics, rules, and focuses. I'm getting the mental image of a person in denial repeating "they'll do it someday" to themself in a corner. :P You're an Elder Scrolls fan, Stonefrog, and I know you know that no Elder Scrolls game is an anything 2.0.

no man Morrowind is not popular enough for it to sell, if we had a Morrowind 2.0 that would be the end of ES

Rigggggggggght because it wasn't Morrowind that launched the company out of financial insolvency and gave it the resources that led directly to the development of Oblivion.

So would an Oblivion 2.0. The Elder Scrolls series is, in my eyes, the very pioneer of change in gaming. Any 2.0 would ruin it, but Morrowind and Oblivion both sold pretty well. Stagnation would be the death of the series, even if not financially. Skyrim's already shown clear signs of also being different. Bethesda knows and does this. It's high time the fanbase caught on or stopped caring about the series and moved on.

Oblivion sold more and better to people that were new to the game
I am saying there should be no 2.0 in ES, people get mad if there is the same thing in more than one game, 1 reason why a lot of people didn't buy NV
I am not trying to belittle Morrowind, I am just saying that I dont think people will chose to go with something that would make them less money

There were things Oblivion that mentioned Skyrim.. lots of things actually.

It's very doubtful Sumerset isles/The wood elf land will ever be the game world of a TES game because High Elves/Wood elves are the two most disliked races and both of their regions are supposed to be full of their own race and not many races from outside it.

Skryim > Sumerset Isles. So much more interesting.

Not necessarily. There was a lot of interaction between the regions up until Oblivion. Now, however, I don't think so. They've reverted back to their old Aldmeri dominion, and I don't think they take too kindly to strangers in their homelands. There would be plenty of ex-imperial Altmer and Bosmer left scattered around after the Oblivion fallout (lol) though, which explains why you should still be able to play as one in Skyrim.

I think there will be a Summerset game someday. However, I think it'd be good to delay it as long as possible. Get it on the best hardware possible for what is supposed to be the most beautiful of all provinces. Or, better yet, just make the last Elder Scrolls game take place everywhere. It probably wouldn't be that hard to create entire planets in the future, considering http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fO7XhaTGDYg

I can definitely imagine the cities of Summerset being really vivid - crystalline spires reaching into the sky, colorful banners flowing majestically in the wind, and lots of, uh, shimmery magical things. Really my definition of "exotic" just means non-medieval. I think things like Shakespearian motif we see everywhere in both the art and writing of Daggerfall fit perfectly, but at the same time I would love Bethesda to go to extremes again with a province. Plus, Morgiah. So what if she's 200 years older. :hubbahubba:

Uhh, something to consider:

http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/inter_beth_team.jpg

Now I can't find an image of the team around the time of Oblivion's development, but you very well know it had blossomed to at least 50 people by Oblivion, more than that by Fallout 3. I think. Throughout its life Morrowind and its expansions have sold a few million copies: the game itself has been so prestigious as to be re-released on Xbox as a classic (twice, I think) and I believe some stores even still stock it. Can't we just agree that Morrowind and Oblivion are both incredibly successful? :P

I know that both were extraordinarily popular I am just saying if they did a 2.0 just for the people in this forum, then its not gonna sell very well. Most people didn't buy NV becuase they thought it was just an addon. Everything is only the sweetest the first time. I probably should have worded that better. But things like Morrowinds fast travel and no quest markers wouldn't be popular among normal players that cant invest more than 1 hour into a video game a day, so it would probably not sell as well as the mainstream games these days.

There will be a Morrowind 2.0 eventually in the sense that there will be another game set in (what was once) Morrowind, though it'll be filled with a fair amount more volcanic ash, boiling seas, Dunmer corpses and Argonian settlements than there were the last time we were there.

(I'd probably be much more upset about all that if I didn't love Argonians so much)

I doubt it when there are so many other places to set it. We've already seen Morrowind. Next!

Unless something has radically changed since the Infernal City, Morrowind will be a part of Argonia now, meaning, you guessed it, whenever we have a game set there, we will also see mainland Morrowind.

Besides, by your logic, there's no point in going to Hammerfell and High Rock, because we already saw them in Daggerfall. They, like the game Morrowind, were only set in small parts of the provinces they were set in. And considering you don't seem to care that mainland Morrowind wouldn't have been a carbon copy of Vvardenfell back during Morrowind's time, let alone how different it would be now that it's changed so much between then and Skyrim's time, you can't really defend High Rock or Hammerfell either. Hey, don't get mad at me, it's your logic.

I could also say there's no point in even making any more Elder Scrolls games considering we could go everywhere in Arena, but I think I made my point... at least I hope I did.

I would love a TES set in the Summerset isles.
A highly magical environment, weird plants, ape men!
And the Altmer are fascinating, truly weird.

But what I would really love is a TES game set in the whole of Tamriel. If they could make it as unique and handcrafted as Morrowind. Truly huge, possibly a whole disk per province. Play a Khajit, start in Elsewhere, a Redguard in Hammerfell etc.
Not hundreds, but thousands of hours of gameplay.
Will prolly never happen.
Maybe for TES 15 :)

Morrowind is unlikely to change THAT much, unless it does a Cyrodiil and rapidly changes it's environment completely. It'll still be the same old mushroom trees and ash. As far as I'm aware, Argonia doesn't technically encompass Morrowind and I doubt they would make it so that it would as it's already a complex enough place without adding a whole extra province for a game. Daggerfall I don't really even count, since it was such low graphics that it could have been just about anywhere. It would seem totally different. Also, it was a much smaller area than Vvardenfell, which takes up probably about half the landmass. I find it unlikely they would do it when there are so many more regions.

Summerset Isles and other tropical islands (some island where the Sload lives on, and that island with the chameleon elves) would be perfect for TES VI. :)

Yes, it's had a volcano erupt, making it change from partly ash to almost completely ash. Sounds promising for a sequel.

There were things mentioned in IV about Skyrim. I remember hearing about the Redoran thing. Wasn't there one about Nords boycotting Imperial goods?

They mentioned things about a lot of provinces, actually, if we expected everything mentioned in the other provinces in Oblivion to actually be shown in the game, the game would have to cover all of Tamriel. And in any case, most of those issues are probably either over or irrelevant by now. Though I seem to recall a rumor in Oblivion about the Greybeards talking about the end of the world, which sounds like it might well refer to Skyrim's events.

As for me, though, I always accepted that the Elder Scrolls V was likely to be set in Skyrim, due to that name being trademarked by Bethesda. Though it's curious some would think it would be set in Summerset Isle, since I recall that there was a time when I heard a rumor that the Elder Scrolls IV would be set there too. Not sure why that is.

But what I would really love is a TES game set in the whole of Tamriel. If they could make it as unique and handcrafted as Morrowind. Truly huge, possibly a whole disk per province. Play a Khajit, start in Elsewhere, a Redguard in Hammerfell etc.

So basically Arena with modern graphics and the level of detail we expect from current Elder Scrolls games?

Yes, I don't see that happening any time soon.

I'd definitely love to see Summerset Isle, for two reasons: 1. Island province means no silly invisible walls and 2. Morgiah was awesome and there needs to be more of her. *nods*

I'll be happy with Skyrim, though. Not my favourite province in the least, but it'll do. :)
