I really thought TES V would be set in summerset isle

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:35 pm

for two reasons. the rumors you over hear in OB about problems in summerset isle. as well as one of those rumors specificly which talked about wizards disapearing, which was similar i my mind to the disapearance of the dwarves. so I thought tes V would take place in summerset instead of SK because of many lore connections to the isles. Plus origin of mages guild.

Has any one heard reasons why they decided skyrim above others. other than todd has been watching too much conan.

People thought the same about III (well, III was actually originally supposed to take place there) and IV, too. I think it's just wishful thinking. Also, Oblivion had rumors from every other province.

not really. its a thread to discuss why they picked SK above other things.

I always thought the comments about people in Summerset turning increasingly toward Daedra worship was just commentary on the ongoing Oblivion crisis, i.e. the Altmer were trying to pick a winning side so to speak.

As for why they may have picked Skyrim: mountainous terrain makes it more distinct from Cyrodiil than forests, it's the first place humans made landfall in Tamriel, and there is a deep lore history pertaining to Alduin/Akatosh that needs to be addressed now that there are no more emperors.

I could swear I heard something about the Nords of Skyrim warring with House Redoran.

that was the solstiem rumor. don't remember word for word but it invoked the name solstiem as well as that town from it. i could be wrong but I don't think so. *plugs in OB and stands around waiting to hear the rumor*

Well, I was hoping he had been reading too much Conan, you know, the stuff from 1930, not 1980.

I would have liked Summerset Isle just because we haven't seen a "tropical" ES, and Skyrim for all it's coolness will really only have the same environments from Oblivion, maybe a bit more tundra. It may very well be 100x better designed, but we will see no jungles, deserts, savannah, etc.

There were things mentioned in IV about Skyrim. I remember hearing about the Redoran thing. Wasn't there one about Nords boycotting Imperial goods?

Regardless, if one is to expect the most rumors coming out of the location for the next game, I would have thought Morrowind would be the setting for TES V. In Oblivion, there was a rumor about Vivec disappearing (being taken be the Daedra), Jiub driving the cliffracers out, Ald'ruhn being destroyed in the same manner as Kvatch, House Dres signing an alliance with House Hlaalu, King Helseth banning slavery, and that bit with the Redoran fighting with the Nords. A single rumor from one province isn't really a very solid reason to expect the next Elder Scrolls game to take place there. I sure hope for a game io the Isle (or perhaps Hammerfell or Valenwood), but that's not much reason. I did find some in-game connections to Skyrim in the form of books written for Oblivion, though, yet did not for Summerset Isle. That would also be a very weak reason, but it just gives me hope that Skyrim really will have Volkihar vampires lurking under frozen bodies of water simply because of how close the writing of the book that mentions them is to the development of Skyrim.

I think it may have been the Nords or maybe even the Altmer.

I think the Altmer were the ones boycotting Imperial goods. The Nords were involved in some kind of border dispute.

There were things Oblivion that mentioned Skyrim.. lots of things actually.

It's very doubtful Sumerset isles/The wood elf land will ever be the game world of a TES game because High Elves/Wood elves are the two most disliked races and both of their regions are supposed to be full of their own race and not many races from outside it.

Skryim > Sumerset Isles. So much more interesting.

That can be retconned... especially since we know little of what has happened in the 200 years since Oblivion.

Ohhh, I was waiting to see a thread about someone wondering why the game wasn't set in their favorite Tamriel continent.

To X_Myth: wasn't it confirmed that The Underking would be making an appearance in Skyrim? Or did I confuse a forum topic with a magazine article?

Well... the Underking's dead, no? He could be mentioned as he was in Morrowind's introduction and Sancre Tor in Oblivion, but I doubt anything would have been mentioned about such a trivial part of Skyrim. Still, the Underking's dead. Hmm...

I'm pretty sure the Underking (both versions of him: Wulfharth and Zurin Arctus) is dead and gone for good. You sure you're not thinking of someone else?

The wood elf land is Valenwood if you couldn't remember. Anyway, I do agree. I definitely don't see Valenwood being in a game by itself. Summerset Isle is possible, but I don't want one to be there. My biggest problem with Morrowind was all the Dunmer. I don't like Mer.

As for the IV rumors, wasn't there one where they mentioned imperials or imperial forts getting attacked? Don't know if it was in Skyrim, but I think I heard that.

I do think that Bethesda will be tackling Summerset sometime soon, no later than TES VII. Skyrim, whilst sure to be an amazing full-fledged game in its own right, serves the dual purpose of acquainting Bethesda with their Creation Engine and experimenting to see how well the new perk system will work. Once they have the new gameplay perfected and a more refined artistic direction to work with (for example, so far Skyrim seems to use a far more "natural" color palette than Oblivion and Morrowind), I'm sure many of the developers will be eager to do another exotic setting.

It'd also be a chance for them to make an incredibly literal Morrowind 2.0 and regain the approval of some of the people on the forum, although I'm certainly hoping it'll be much more than that.

I think he was thinking of the creature that was in both Oblivion and Morrowind, the Uderfrykte. But for the subject, I honestly thought that the new game would have been set in Cyrodiil and would have covered the rebuilding of the Empire, but I think now that the empire may be a lost cause.

I see High Rock/Hammerfell being the world of the next TES, most likely on the new consoles. Maybe Black Marsh even, would sure be different.
