Realm of the Battlespire

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 5:19 am

I never played Battlespire but I am curious, what did the anchors that held it in its realm look like? How were they made? How were they maintained? and who had control over them? Thanks for any insight.

All I have found are various notes detailing why they should not be broken.

Pocket realm of unused space in Oblivion. As for the anchors, [censored] if I know. Ask Dyviath Fyr, as it is implied he has some connection with it. Or a high ranking battlemage, though expect to immediately be visited by men in very nice suits of dark armor asking you to immediately come with them.

Hmm, So they aren't willing to share secrets of great power with commoners like me? That is a pain.

Well, you're not a battlemage in training, and only a few people really know what happened there.

It was a giant [censored] disaster. The Imperials lost a [censored] ton of battlemages, especially those in training, a dragon, and were nearly invaded by the forces of Mehrunes Dagon.

[[censored]]

Each anchor is just a cluster of four standard issue heavy duty mana-pump, rated for at least 15 million reals per minute. Two are always on active duty, of the other two, one is typically undergoing maintenance, the other serves as a backup.

When located in a void-well like the battlespire they're self powering up to a magicka differential of -.15 LeFaye's. After that they may leach from the input depending on the gradient.

I'm not sure if the battle spire had the T (transdux) model or the ARD (alternating reality diff), the former is just a simple stop/start, the latter allows for flow control.
The ARD units are more suited to Telvani mini pockets. They really just want a cool study room with the option to expand when needed. Not very interesting on a project like the Battlespire. Some earlier Telvani pioneers still use the T units though, simply duty-cycling the pumps nearly achieves the same effect.

The specific maintenance and operation procedures should be detailed in the standard manual. Should be online somewhere if you google for it.

Yeah, that's what I thought but the forums disagree. :P

Still funny though. Making up stuff like that is all part of the fun imo even if you are not joking. The Lore is not always present in every situation. If it isn't there give your own explanation on it. Bethesda sure as hell is not gonna go back and canonize if you are right or wrong about the anchors lol.

Had to laugh anyway.

Slightly more serious, http://www.imperial-library.info/content/battlespire-anchor-warning states that "Sure destruction shall follow, as the Battlespire departs the flux that keeps all sides of nature in unity."

Given the the Aurbis has void and magicka and there is a lack of magicka in Oblivion, the flux probably consists of magicka. Where it comes from, I don't know, it can be artificial or naturally occurring in which case the anchors do just that, keeping the battle spire in place. Either way it makes the Battlespire some sort of proto-tower in a history-of-concepts sense.

Hmm, interesting, one more question. Starlover plans on flying his dragon out of the battlespire back to the Imperial city right? Show is this possible if the Battespire is anchored in a separate realm? Is it more like a wormhole to some distant location somewhere else on the world as I would conventionally think about it or is this just something dragons can do, fly through the void? I believe in your explanation of the void you mention Atronachs being able to rely on their own magicka to maintain themselves as they drift through the void between bubbles. Would the dragon be able to do something similar?

I never thought about that. So I'm just going to say: "Yes, that's exactly how I think they'd do it".
