Reasonable expectations for Fallout 4?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 11:41 am

After being severely disappointed with MGSV and Halo 5, the only hope I have left in 2015 is Fallout 4.

I know all too well what can happen when expectations are too high, but I have been equally disappointed lately when what I consider to be reasonable expectations are too high.

So, my expectations for Fallout 4 are what I would consider to be very reasonable. I expect the graphics to be at least better, if only marginally so, than Bethesda's last game, Skyrim. I expect the world size to be comparable to Skyrim, and I expect the gameplay to be a more refined version of Fallout 3. Obviously, I know there have been some gameplay changes, but I at least expect the overall quality of the game and gameplay to be comparable to that of Fallout 3.

Obviously, I think my expectations are very reasonable. What does everyone else think? Do I have reasonable expectations?

What about you? What are your expectations for Fallout 4?

I think your expectations are more than reasonable. Luckily for me, I'm rather new to the FO series; I started with New Vegas about two years ago and I loved it. So my expectations are just like yours. Although for TES, I've a lot more expectations since I love this series more and unfortunately Skyrim left me terribly disappointed. And I think this is the real reason why I'm excited about FO4 - I want to get rid of the bad taste Skyrim left in my mouth.

Have you enjoyed other Fallout games if so I think you will be pleased, if you have not it does take some getting used to the Fallout universe stuff can seem weird.

I have no doubt I will love it, ambiance from what we have seen is awesome the fact the horrible sky is gone was a major plus to me, way to dark and gritty at times, yes it is the apocalypse of sorts but damn.

But that is just my own view on the matter I am so ready for this game now I was ready since E3 with getting this game, so my view on the game yeah it will be worth getting but I am a bit biased in the matter since I love the Fallout universe.

Well so far its looking good, I'd be highly surprised if Bethesda didn't deliver an epic, nail biting & engrossing game to sink into.

Well since I haven't touched a Bethesda game in almost a year , I would only hope that it's everything I have imagined and more. I'm trying not to roam the boards or vids too much to keep me more surprised but I'm super anxious and I wanna see more cool [censored]

Realistically I'm expecting it to be on par or a minor upgrade of Skyrim. But hopefully it will blow Skyrim out of its disturbingly un-irradiated water.

Very, expect better shooting mechanics though and an interesting crafting and state of decay style mini game.

I think your expectations will be fully met.

How much have you followed the marketing since E3? I think if you keep those expectations, and generally didn't have any major issues with Fallout 3 or Skyrim, you'll have a great time with 4.

Bethesda's made a point a while ago about improving their characters, and at E3 they talked about improving the combat since day one. So I know I'm going to love Fallout 4, but I'm especially curious to see how they deliver in those areas.

I am a fan of the series, particularly Fallout 3, not so much New Vegas.

I really do hope to enjoy Fallout 4.

I'm trying my damndest to keep my expectations as low as possible.

If my insanely low expectations are still too much, at this point, I am fully ready to give up on gaming altogether.

I think if you liked FO3 more than NV then you will be very happy with FO4.

I loved NV a bit more than FO3, but I have really high hopes for FO4 because of the point Box Maaan reiterated earlier. I believe Bethesda made a point of making the story as great as the awesome game worlds they create. That is why I am excited . . . it's going to be a fun, fun game.

I am expecting this game to be considered one of, if not, the greatest RPG of all time, and all games in general. Most game companies will pump out games every year and either try hyping them up or what not and can flop. I like how Bethesda take a different approach in only making a game almost every 3-4 years, but really putting all their time into that one game. That being said, i expect an extremely high quality game because of the time. Also, since they have so long and focus on the same RPG genre, they have years to learn from consumers their mistakes and what to fix. After FO3 and Skyrim, along with about 5-6 years of work, Bethesda should no doubt put out an insane game.

Overall i am expecting for the graphics to be decent, similar or better than Skyrim. I am expecting combat to be better because of the complaints from FO3. Lastly, I want reasons to keep on playing for hundreds of hours. This differs with different peoples opinions on how to do so, but they should learn from their past two games that content is really what we are all looking for. That replay value for the next 4 years or so. From what i've seen so far, they have achieved all of this. I don't think this has a chance in hell to disappoint any gamer at all, and should go down as one of the greatest games in history.

This is obviously my opinion but I'm 100% serious when I say that every Bethesda game I've ever played (played since Oblivion) has met and exceeded my expectations. If Black Ops wins game of the year its a travesty. No annualized game should win game of the year. Especially that first-person garbage.

Couldn't agree more. First person shooters are fine. they are good games, but not good enough to get honor from any magazine or credible source for GOY. My thought with FPS is you pick one genre you like best. Destiny and HAlo are sci-fi, COD and Blacklight are real life, then something like Star wars this year. They are all the same, just different genre and some features. It's a joke that any COD is even relevant anymore to be honest

I know I'll love the game. No one else delivers experiences like Bethesda and even if it was only a graphical update in a new setting with practically identical mechanics, I would still sink 200 + hours into it. It is definitely poised to be more however.

As of now, I am only really interested in two things. 1) How the character AI and interaction will be. Skyrim was fantastic in a lot of ways, but it didn't deliver a world that was easy to engross yourself in. By that I mean, the rudimentary way that towns functioned didn't provide replayability, or it made it strained in my mind. No general awareness of world events among NPCs, not recognizing you for what you did, not reacting appropriately, etc. This doesn't even require a ton of dialogue, just various sets or "states" that will take into account major set piece actions. Obviously you can polish that and fine tune it endlessly, but I'm not asking for them to take on the world with this game. Just make it functional and my imagination will do the rest. 2) A good and sensible story. Fallout has that quirky aspect to it, but I like to make my story epic. I think Bethesda did a great job with 3 by keeping the quirky stuff grounded still (like Moira's odd questline... all the quirky stuff was shoe horned onto crazy characters, so it became a quirk of the Wasteland itself that you would have to navigate odd encounters). Hopefully the story is epic, engrossing, and ultimately rewarding. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do!

If I loaded up a vanilla green tinted FO3 I know FO4 will blow it away.

But I have not played the vanilla FO3 is years. Thru mods my bar has been raised quite a bit and I am a little worried.

I have spent years tuning my mods for the perfect weather, how much I need to eat, drink and sleep to survive. How I want to heal myself in and out of battle.

How I want to travel and repair my gear. My gun loadout, armor all tuned to perfection. Yeah, I am a little worried.

I will miss Bullettime the most.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone.

I'm just a little depressed right now after two of my three most anticipated games for 2015 have been disappointments.

Fallout 4 is literally all I have left. If Fallout 4 turns out to be a disappointment, I'm done with gaming. I just can't take it anymore.

I expect Fallout 4 to be basically Fallout 3 but with prettier graphics, improved gameplay, and a good crafting system. Maybe a better story. Maybe.

If it meets at least three out of four of those expectations, I'll be perfectly happy.

I would LOVE it if this was the case.

If I can get Fallout 3 with smoother gameplay and better graphics, than Fallout 4 is my GOTY.

i hear ya, my favorite game of all time was fallout 3, then skyrim then deus ex human revolution, i have only played one game on my xbox one since i got it earlier this year, i was waiting for fallout 4, a lot of games don't have a lot of replay value, fallout 4 is gonna be the best game of our generation, i'm also hoping homefront revolution which is another open world game set in a city will be good, its coming out next year so keep an eye out for that as well along with the new deus ex next year so i think the next couple years will be good for gaming.
