Reasons I killed Lucien Lechance.

Post » Wed May 26, 2010 7:46 pm

The reason I killed him is because he is criminal scum and referred to me as child. I War-hammered his pompous ass.

Who else kills this murdering swine? Why? How?

I mistook him for an alarm clock and thought I was trying to hit the snooze button

Things just went from bad to worse...

Because I am a noble citizen of the empire, and believe that this sickening act should be halted immediately, even if it means taking drastic measures! Long live the Empire!

Because he's stupid and doesn't know the difference between self-defense and murder (well, it's actually the game who doesn't know it, but you get it). And that made him launch himself directly to my (mainly) righteous Witchhunter char.

I killed him once, usually I just don't murder with good characters (or try not to), so he doesn't show up and with evil characters I do the DB questline for the bonusses.
This one character that killed him was so evil that he thought Lucien and his pathetic DB was beneath him. So the minute he turned his back and got all transparant my evil guy hacked him to bits. Waking me up in the middle of the night... :snoring:

"You sleep rather soundly for a murderer..."
"Well I was, until you woke me up... dumba$$...".

Never kill Lucien!

Well this depends on the role-playing aspect. Like obviously, if I have a char. that's gonna join the DB, it doesn't make sense to kill him. But I did have a character (Igodah Go^Pe) who accidentally murdered someone. Later on, after she got her visit from Lechance, I learned it's possible to kill the guy and I was SO MAD because I didn't want to be stuck carrying that Blade of Woe. Nor did she want to do DB stuff. So instead of doing their quests, she murdered as many DB members as she could 'till they kicked her out!

My dark elf witch character got a visit from Lucien, too, but she didn't kill him. She merely accepted him as yet another one of her tortured nightmares. Nor has she done (or will do) any DB stuff.

Well, my high elf mage accidentally murdered a beggar due to a misfired fireball, so when Lucien offered her a place among assassins, she killed him in the Tiber Septim Hotel.

My Argonian assassin, however, welcomes Lucien.

My Dark Elf archer has been very careful to not accidentally murder anyone, but he knows if he did and Lucien comes for him, a fight is inevitable.

Lucien Lechance is the man with the plan. I never kill him. Just let him walk away in style. Smooth as [censored]. Unless I want to actually join. :P

He is paralleled by Mr. Burke in Fallout 3.

Its not worth it to kill Lucien even if your roleplaying a good character your still missing out on some great rewards and you get his black robes later on.

You can get those robes much easier even if you kill him

Jghastas house in bravil has a 5 lock barrel and if you crack it you can have his black hand robes.

If you kill him then you are becoming what he said you are.... a murderer. Eeven if your original one was an acciden the murder of lucien isn't.

Isn't it obvious? A creepy guy wearing a black robe and hood sneaking up to you in the middle of the night. I thought he was gonna kill me. I just reached for my bow without thinking. Put an arrow between his eyes, then realised he was a Speaker, hid the body in a nearby bandit tent and ran like mad to avoid the wrath of Sithis.

I killed him once because I wanted to get rid of that stupid join quest and quest item sword that sticks like to you like your own skin. I've also been marked for murdering and had him approach when I killed that argonian trainer in the blackwood company hall in self defense. I mean the trainer attacked on sight in the last part of the quest for destroying the hist tree and I'm marked for murdering?.... Buuullllll crraaaapp!!!!

Added a bit latter: The way I see it, offing him is doing the world a favor and you don't have to wait as long for him to die if you join the DB.

Doing the Dark Brotherhood quests contradicts playing a good character, though.

Buffy killed that rogue mage witch Earana in Chorrol (and she'd do it again) and got visited by LL. Buffy's an orphan and LL sure knew which buttons to push with his promise of a 'loving family'. She even went to see her first mark. Ultimately however, she decided to just stick with her guild of mages. The silly dagger is at the bottom of the Niben (she insisted I remove the quest item tag).

LL did not threaten her like Earana did, so she had no interest in killing him.

As far as loot from the questline, she cares not a whit about that.

Seconded. If you join the DB, you aren't a good character.

I like the insidious and seductive beauty of the questline. There are many rather innocuous ways to attract their attention. It is not hard, if you read between the lines to rationalize that killing the initiation mark is 'justified'. The next contract involves an evil pirate. . . . Then they get down to business and become dramatically hard or impossible to justify for a 'decent but naievely misguided character with a shade of darkness' that I often play. If the character has not already rejected the DB, there comes a point where they must truly embrace it or walk away. Dunno if that makes sense.

Edit based on Holy Assassin's question below: You asked where that point comes? I think it depends on the character playing. I see two points:

Spoiler
Right after the pirate, the 'accident' you stage is tough to rationalize. Killing the Draconis family is over the top if the the character has any 'goodness' in them. I think the purification is diff. By that time, your character has gone completely over to the dark side and must eat his own kind.

I completely agree with this point. My main character was like this, morally grey. Except he wasn't naive, he just didn't want to think about it. :P

Spoiler
What point are you talking about? The purification?
