Sounds like story-driven games are more your thing than open-world RPGs...
Well, there are stories, and there there are stories, right?
Skyrim may be called "open world" and not "story-driven", however, there is an underlying story to Skyrim, and that story could be compelling in how it is told and how it unravels, or just an excuse for "hack'a'dragon".
Things like "inventory bookmarks" are soooooo far from my radar.. just an example, when I play games like Oblivion, I limit myself to one sword, one dagger, one shield (if sword is 2-handed I toss the shield), and whatever armor I am wearing. I carry no torches, no gazillion potions (matter of fact, I never use magic). Need health? I kill something. That is how I role play my characters. I carry so few stuff, I don't need a complicated "inventory" system.
How pretty the game looks, that wears out after a few minutes, then it just becomes a chore, and I go into my "got to finish it, I paid $50.00 for this crap" mode. The last time it happened to me was with Assassin's Creed. Beautiful game.. painfully monotonous to play. Now, if I am in doubt, I just wait for the gameplay videos to pop up on youtube to make a better decision.
