I would love Skyrim to be the best Elder Scrolls game to date. (My personal favorite stills remains Morrowind). It does have the makings of being the best, though there are a few things I worry about.

Damnit! Typo in the Topic Description. It was supposed to say 'by' not 'my'. Darn it... again. :brokencomputer:

I know its going to be the best TES game to date, dont need an article to tell that to me, Oblivion is my favorite, although Morrowind was very good.

The Elder Scrolls Morrowind is the greatest game in the history of the universe., Oblivion was great, Skyrim will be epic.

Meh. I'm far from convinced that it'll be the best elder scrolls game. I'm convinced it'll be great, but whether it's the best remains to be seen. A number of Skyrim's main selling points I really don't care for:

1) Dragons - don't interest me at all
2) Dragon shouts - player characters should ALWAYS be completely voiceless in RPGs. Even a few magical words shouted out can tell a lot about a character and impose a personality.
3) The setting - Even though they're making every effort to make it as varied as possible, i'm just not convinced it'll be as much my cup of tea as Cyrodiil (lush forests, traditional fantasy)

It may turn out to be the best made. Will it be my favourite? Doubtful.

I'm looking forward to your conviction and penitent remorse, I presume it'll happen on 11/11/11.

It worries me that every single thing mentioned is an aspect of technicalities and gameplay features, with nothing relating to world-design, art, story, lore, etc. Gameplay and nice graphics are just the frosting; the cake of the game is in those deeper, more fulfilling things that never get any attention.

There will be forests, of course... but not as much as there was in Oblivion. The significant portion of Cyrodiil was made up of woodlands, which I loved.

Those are pretty much the three things that make the game. You don't even sound interested in the game at all...

I know they are... which is frustrating for me. 1) and 3) I can live with. It's just personal taste. But 2) irritates me a lot and makes me think "what the hell were they thinking?"

I'm interested in the game because I loved Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion and consider them to be some of the best games of all time.

I've never understood the need to create and defend a dogmatic position on a game's quality before release.

Civilization 3, Civilization 5, Oblivion... these are all games that had obscene amounts of hype before release. Not one of them were worth the price, nor the spoiled anticipation.

Lets see. You missed out that in the last two games the Player Characters had battle grunts.
I don't know exactly how the shouts will impose a personality.
Unless, of course, its said like this: "Like, FUS RO DAH, or whatever".

I don't think the Dragonshouts really matter, in the trailer it sounded a bit... Magical so you can not really hear what the voice is.

Not worth the price?? You get literally hundreds of hours of game play for your money? I just don't get some people.

Mmmm... what's the difference between you character shouting FUS DOH RAH (or something similar) in Skyrim than your character shouting AGGGGH when he is hurt in Oblivion? What can that say about your character's personality?

The battle grunts were hardly noticeable.

The shout in the Skyrim trailer is bad enough at imposing a personality, and unless i'm mistaken that's one of the shortest shouts there is.

Obviously it's noowhere near as bad as a fully voice-acted player-character for imposing personality - but it's still a big step in the wrong direction. I just hope Bethesda don't go any further down that road.

But tell me, what personality can a shout impose?
