Well, a handful of those things aren't really exclusive to 2011, which reinforces my opinion that every year is good for PC gaming (though, 8/10 of those don't really apply to me). :P

Because someone will post it anyway.

Skyrim Skyrim Skyrim Skyrim Skyrim Skyrim Skyrim Skyrim Skyrim oh and Skyrim.

Honestly, it will be the 'pivotal' moment in gaming history, come november.

From that list, only The Witcher 2 applies to me. Can't wait to get it!

Did your name magically capitalize itself recently, or am I just not very observant? Could've sworn it was all lower case..

PC gaming is in its Renaissance, no one will believe me! Maybe I pointed it out too soon, and we're now nearing the middle. Where more people can finally realize this.

Edit
It is an amazing era for the PC gamer. Things have never been better for us, or at least in my lifetime as a PC gamer.

Hardly a victory for PC gaming though. Thanks to consoles we won't get DX11 support on release and if it's anything like Oblivion consolization is a distinct possibilty. I think the example given in the article are much better examples of games that show the strengths of the PC, although I feel they should have given more of a shout to the great indie games that the PC is being treated to like Terraria, Section 8: Prejudice and Frozen Synapse.

The UDK has a really awesome licensing system too, where you only have to pay 100 bucks if you’re game makes less than $50,000.

All the constant doom and gloom over PC gaming has been vastly overstated. The only thing that happened was that the old darling PC developers from the 90's era switched over to the console market which was growing faster. They left a void that will eventually be completely filled by others. As long as PCs will be around, there will be people making interesting games for it.

Most games are actually still based on the same core idea that the consoles are your focus, the superior platform or something. I don’t know why. That was the truth 5 years ago, but the world has moved on.

I'm not so sure that was the truth 5 years ago, or ever really.

Consoles were certainly more popular, but it was not because they were ever inherently more powerful machines.

That doesn't mean its a good year for PC. The only games I know on that list is BF3 and Oblivion. Those games will also be coming to consoles and with only a couple of improvements on the PC, none to make me spend $1000 on a good computer & mods have always been on the PC.

I agree with a few of those, namely BF3, SW:TOR, and UDK. I want to get into game development and hey, UDK is the best place to start. How many games that have come out have made use of Unreal Tech?

I'm struggling to remember a bad year for gaming...

Nothing will beat 2002 anyway, but 2011 might come close.

I didn't see all too many reasons I care about on that list or recognize as making PC gaming, specifically, good this year, to be honest. Gaming just seems to be really good, in general, this year and next year, as well, but Battlefield 3 is just a shooter as any other, as far as I see it (Yes, it looks pretty for those who have the hardware, but so what, it's a standard military shooter.), The Witcher 2 doesn't look too bad and I hope there will be a PS3 port, but if the goal of that list was meant to point out why PC gaming is unique, this year, or something such as that, both consoles get Dark Souls and Final Fantasy XIII-2 while the PS3 gets the upcoming Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Correct me if I'm wrong, but L.A. Noire also seems to have been released, this year, and most games are just multiplatform (like the precious Skyrim, RAGE, the upcoming BioShock: Infinite, Deus Ex, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, etc.). Aside from that, The Old Republic was listed and I'm still ticked off that it's replaced KotOR III and mods/Steam/potentially superior hardware were already for PCs while I really don't like mods, don't like Steam (I like physical copies of all games.), and the superior hardware most certainly doesn't apply to my PC, but that doesn't stop me from playing PC games and being a PC gamer.

Hrm...to be honest, I don't understand the point of that article. Every year is a good year for PC gaming. I have consoles as well, and they're great, but the PC is always my platform of choice, no contest. Heck, the way I look at it (that the video card is the only part of a PC that's specifically for gaming) PC gaming is even cheaper than console gaming. I can't even count how many new or new-ish games I've gotten for between $3 and $30 US. That pays for video cards pretty fast. :P
