My 10 Reasons why Oblivion was better than Skyrim

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 6:29 am

I haven't finished it but so far the Dark Brotherhood quest line has been rather awesome. From what I hear, though, the Thieves Guild, Companions and College of Winterhold quest lines are... rather brief.... and not so amazing...

Im currently lvl 37 and 43 hours into the game, I have yet to complete the main quest and have only completed one faction. This is purely my opinion.

10.No Airborn Assaults.
Doesn't bother me in the least.

9.[censored] Epic Guilds.
I thought the guilds were shorter but of better quality.

8.HAHA MIND CONTROL.
Don't like mages that much but I haven't tried in skyrim yet so I won't answer.

7.Immigration Rates.
Well there aren't a lot of them because if the place was real there wouldn't be many at all.

6.Nothing but a sprained ankle.
Don't do that next time just climb down the rock or go around its what i do.

5&4. Going Pro.
Didn't care about them in Oblivion so i'm not missing them at all.
3.Flying to new lows.
What type of dragons? If it's the basic dragons them that will happen if you powered through your smithing.

2.Who needs a whole book just take this scroll, you'll be fine.
There isn't spell creation so that there is balance and not ape [censored] magic spells in the game and since you want the creation kit your on PC so just mod your own spells in.

1.DUBYA TEE EFF WUR IZ MAH CONZTRUZION KEHTZ!
Just gonna ignore this.

Oblivion is a better game than Skyrim, IMO.

Referring to an earlier post - I REALLY miss all the spells like chameleon and open lock...

Im not saying one way or another, but his first part says why oblivion was better, then his second part also says why oblivion is better. it is clear he meant why skyrim is better for the second part.

This thread proves that EVERYTHING can generates Nostalgia and Elitism. Even Oblivion.

Tell me about the "Amazing" Guilds Storylines of Oblivion. I'm looking at you Fighter's Guild!

Also, if Oblivion is better... You can just... Play Oblivion! Tad?! I'm the guy with the solutions! "The one of your dreams"

Spell creation, deeper RPG mechanics, H2H skill, jump height variables. Pretty much the only things previous ES games have on Skyrim. And Guild lines are way, way too short. I'm Arch Mage after five simple quests? WTF?

I also find it funny, that, by the numbers, and on command, Oblivion is now looked to as the hallmark, as opposed Morrowind.

Dragons are very weak, really and i miss fighters guild, too. Dark Brotherhood quests in Oblivion were more original and tough, either (cut the finger, plant it on the desk etc.). Those are the only better parts for Oblivion but in general, Skyrim shouldn't even compared to Oblivion. I can't speak for the enchanting and spellmaking issues because i never use them. I use no enchanting and using only simple spells. Pure warrior stuff.

yea you're either horrible at guessing distance or you're a liar

nords are racist

dragons> oblivion gates

yes dragons are easy to kill, and i am disappointed, but i got over it

haven't used spells yet, but they seem cooler than OB

English people in America were racist as hell, that didn't stop mass immigration by Irish, Italians and Germans even when treated like complete **** did it? Also, Argonians aren't coldblooded, or at least it has never been suggested. Some of you don't know what you are talking about.

10. doesn't fit in with overall combat, not needed
9. favored guilds based on playstyle preferences. they are designed to appeal to each audience.
8. Alteration
7. Khajiit, Argonian, warm origins. Skyrim, cold place. makes sense
6. No.
5&4. I like moving fast... I agree with the missing, not with the attitude
3. yeah.... giants are more powerful. Dragons still look cool.
2. there are enough spells, just hard to find. Spell creation, unnecessary extra step. Plenty of crafting in the game. This one is highly opinionated on all sides.
1. Soon, my child.... soon....
0. Bethesda made very smart decisions in how they streamlined the game from Oblivion. It all flows well.
-1. Make mods

Extra Credit: Make gasyex mods

OP you make some good points. Skyrim is better than Oblivion IMO.

But the streamlining hurts the game a bit. Loss of skills and stats make it seem a little to simple. Magic feels limited.

Better than Oblivion as a game though, so I'm not to hurt by the streamlining in comparison.

I wish we had gotten Morrowind level of depth with Skyrims world!!!

I hate to say it compared to IV Skyrim is alot better about the only thing I will agree with you is guilds needed more content apart from the thieves guild and the fighters one it seems not so epic and custom spellmaking needs to be back.

Perfere Daggerfall and Morrowind over both really, and perfere skyrim over IV and oddly still playing skyrim.

why would expect lots of non nords in skyrim? for over a decade we've been tolld how harsh the land is for anything NOT a nord. it should be very nord heavy. as morrowind was very Dunmer heavy.you got a lot of races in the CAPITOL OF THE EMPIRE because it was THE CAPITOL OF THE EMPIRE.

in morrowind argonians constantly greet you with lines like "what does the warm blood want?" this tells you FOR A FACT they're cold blooded.

Hmm, you thinking what I'm thinking? I wonder what the numbers will say in five years when 6 hits stores.... Hmmm.

You have to be on drugs to consider Oblivion a better game than Skyrim, its not even close. Skyrim has a more epic scale in terms of size, battles, fluid combat, better AI, better archery, more unique dungeons, more quests, more fluff features such as ore mining, wood harvesting, etc. The game is more challenging too. Oblivion was so easy you could beat the game at level 1 in about 30 minutes and nothing could hurt you, you could run backwards and never get hit by anything, it had a very generic feel to it. Aside from some textures, there is nothing Oblivion did better than Skyrim, absolutely nothing.

Well the topic was "Oblivion is better than Skyrim"

Morrowind still goes over Oblivion by far.

Mostly I agree but athletics and acrobatics was always overempowered in Oblivion. It makes sense to break this down just to be able to act as a human being.

Besides of that your complaints are worth to think about.

Yeah Skyrim is missing something, maybe needs more color and pants and a not so difficult enchanting system... They scrapped alot of stuff that made me love Oblivion, oh wait. Too much like Fallout 3,don't get me wrong Fallout 3 was my favorite game until I gave Oblivion a try. Too dark, always getting attacked, some enemies are too hard, too difficult and complicated at times, and lacking in color. Still my favorite game though.

10. If that's the worst thing about Skyrim, I'm pretty sure it's the single greatest game of all time.
9. Fighters especially the mage guild bored me to death. Tons of fetch quests, felt very rushed.
8. I'll admit, a few more spells would have been nice, but Mysticism can easily be incorporated into other skills.
7. You're in Skyrim, the home of the Nords. That's like asking where all the white people are in Asia. Oblivion took place in what was pretty much the capital of the world, meaning there's a bit more racial variety.
6. I'll admit, that's a little annoying
5/4. Having a skill for moving was stupid and redundant imo. I forgot they were even gone until I read this thread.
3. If you put everything into melee combat, of course you're going to have an easy time killing stuff. But admittedly, the combat skills could use a little rebalancing.
2. More spells would be nice, but I don't want spells for the sake of having them.
1. Patience...

I had a clever and funny reply but never mind.

Instead, Life Tip: When you want to get your point across, try to spell and type like a big boy. From what I can remember, 2nd grade English class was not that hard.
