My 10 Reasons why Oblivion was better than Skyrim

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 12:28 am

I don't have 10 reasons why Oblivion is better than Skyrim, because as far as I'm concerned, Oblivion is not better than Skyrim, and it's not even close.

(For the record, pre-Skyrim, Oblivion was my #2 game of all time, behind only Morrowind.)

But I will respond to yours:

10.No Airborn Assaults.
You can no longer jump and swing, nor can you cast while jumping. I feel as if they buffed the combat system up so much they slacked on what the original system had.
Case and point.

Not something that bothers me (I didn't even really notice), but I can see why it'd be a disappointment if this is something you utilized in Oblivion.

9.[censored] Epic Guilds.
Who would want to swing an axe or cast a spell with one of the most dominating forces in Tamriel, when you could study the art of flute playing or go to the 4-year version of hogwartz?
The mages and fighters guilds are in all games for one reason. They are badass. I feel the factions in skyrim were a little limp. The best one imo turns out to be the companions which I won't spoil.

I'm not deep in guild questlines, but I'm enjoying the College of Winterhold thus far.

8.HAHA MIND CONTROL.
Where the [censored] is Mysticism?

Mysticism never really had mind control, for starters, that was always Illusion, and for 2, Mysticism is in Aleration now.

7.Immigration Rates.
Where are all the Argonians up to no good? Or those sneaky Kahjiit? Or the redguards swinging sword with their shields held high? One of the first things I noticed about skyrim is the lack of other raced npcs. Once again no spoilers, but their is a quest where you must gather the blood of every single race in the game. I wasn't able to complete it for almost 10 hours.

I'm sorry, but on this point, I think you need to learn to Skyrim better.

In Whiterun alone, there is a Khajiit encampment just outside the walls, a Redguard quest giver and another Redguard ass kisser to the Jarl, a Breton shopkeeper and court wizard, obviously Nords by the truckload, a Dark Elf mercenary, that's just one town off the top of my head. I've seen Wood Elf court wizards, High Elves are all over the place with the Thalmor, I see plenty of Argonians, especially in Riften, Orc librarians in the College of Winterhold... the races are nice and all over the place. It's really no different than Morrowind which was the native home of the Dark Elves, and there were Dark Elves everywhere.

6.Nothing but a sprained ankle.
Okay, theirs a 10 foot drop from this rock, to the bank of the river? No problem. *jumps* *Death on impact*
Fun times.

I mean, get the perk for that? Don't jump down from rocks?

5&4. Going Pro.
Athletics and Acrobatics have been removed from the elder scrolls game. That svcks, superbly.

I know a lot of people may flame me for this, but I don't see the "run" and "jump" skills being gone as a "loss"

3.Flying to new lows.
Dragons! [censored] yea! Oh wait, uhmm........only 3 swings from my ebony battle axe and a dual casted ice storm killed you? Heh, giants are more of a challenge, now I know why you went extinct.

I admit dragons are rather tame, I thought they'd be beefier, and I thought the same exact thing about giants being more of a challenge, but hey it's better than no dragons.

2.Who needs a whole book just take this scroll, you'll be fine.
There is a serious lack of spells in this game, their is also a serious lack of spell creation system. This is a big let down considering how epic those things were....and to see them go is doodoo.

I agree there are too few spell effects, but I don't miss spellmaking, and this is coming from someone who was a huge fan of it in previous games.

1.DUBYA TEE EFF WUR IZ MAH CONZTRUZION KEHTZ!
Lol, thats just me raging. RELEASE THE CONSTRUCTION KIT NOOOOOOW!

Eh. I've never really cared for mods that much.

I've played through Daggerfall twice, Morrowind twice and Oblivion three times. I'm only level 26 in Skyrim, so far. It's easily the best of the series. You can pick things each of the previous games did better, but I think Skyrim does everything else well enough to make it superior when you consider the complete game.

The all-time greatest moment of the series is still the guy falling out of thin air in Morrowind. But Oblivion probably has the best quests of the series. The mage guild well, waking up in the inn/ship after it was stolen, the slasher movie party, etc. they were just fun. The dungeons, Oblivion realms, everything looked amazing, so much so that you got to see them again and again. I didn't like the visual design of Morrowind, so Oblivion was just what I wanted in that regard. And who didn't love just casting invisibility and running past everything to close an Oblivion gate?

For all the people mentioning mods; what the F_U_C_K are console players supposed to do? I don't have $1000+ to spend on a computer that runs Skyrim as well as my 360. If I did, I would have done so already. And I'm 14, so I can't work my ass off to earn the money.

[censored] mods....
