reboot the series.

In the g4 interview todd mentioned something about how after this game they were going to reboot TES....i may have misheard that. if i didnt im not surprised, i mean there is alot of lore in the previous games that needs to be fixed, and just tacking it onto a sequel wouldnt feel right. it would have to be rewritten to be relevant in the future and a reboot could do that perfectly. so maybe that means arena could be the next game to come back to elder scrolls. i have to admit that would be amazing, but it would feel more like a prequel than a reboot.

Not reboot the lore. More like reboot the mechanics, features, functionality, available items, etc.

If Bethesda does decide to reboot The Elder Scrolls, I don't think it'll happen for quite some time. I, however, am perfectly fine with the way things are going with TES at the moment.

This. They do it for every game.

I think this must have been misquoted. Will TES take a different turn from Skyrim? More than likely, considering it will be on the next generation. BGS is the kind of company that never looks back, and always strives to go forward. If we were to see any return to any of the previous provinces, BGS would fundamentally change how the entire province would work. I personally would never expect a reboot, as the land of Tamriel and the lore of TES are limitless and are always expanding with each new installment.

He meant that they reboot the mechanics and start from scratch while designing each new game in the series.

"Maybe we should wait for the next console cycle because we are going to reboot Elder Scrolls, but we felt there was so much we can do."

Actually, if they were to reboot the Lore, or at least part of it, now would be the time to do it. Well, now being TES VI.

Dragonborn fails, Alduin eats the world, we get to start over.

By "reboot the series", I think he was referring to how they rebooted it with Morrowind after Daggerfall, and Oblivion after Morrowind.
I think he's speaking in terms of console to console rebooting, given the fact that they were talking about how they didn't feel the need to wait for the next generation of consoles.

Ya, they always start over when they do an elder scrolls game. They are numbered but they're not direct sequels of the one before.

I am particularly grateful that they decided not to wait until the next generation of consoles to be released. We could have been waiting for a long long time.

There was an interview with Pete Hines in which he said how there is a massive range of places that the series can go and that he personally would like to do in future elder scrolls. This implies that (irrespective of the time gap between games) the series will at least continue for some length of time.
