RebuildingSettlement

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:15 pm

Hey guys (fans, staff and of course devs),

as much as I like the rebuilding feature, I have a question about it:

Can I rebuild CLEAN? - Kind of like an Enclave-Base instead of Megaton 2.0? (I mean, while I like the atmosphere of the games, that doesn't project hope and real rebuilding IMHO is not taking rusty sheet metal, more like getting the rust off before reusing it and panting the walls (instead of the chipped walls normal houses have...in a way like the Lucky 38 which while old, wasn't in complete disrepair) etc.?

Oh and do we get nuclear power stations (those generators in the presentation looked like damned diesel-emergency-generators) that aren't as noisy? (I wouldn't like living somewhere with a generator running all the time (to keep the defenses powered))

Well, that's it, hope someone's going to answer :)

greetings LAX

well we know we can also build settlements out of concrete in addition to the pieced together from scrap look... though we dont know what the concrete will look like.

It could look just as dis repaired as the slabs of metal.. who knows.

Also there would probably be other power sources.. we saw in the trailer some blue glowing energy thing which could have been a more sophisticated source of energy... id imagine the generator is the first tier of energy and nuclear might be more expensive or something.

I thought it was either a tesla-coil (meaning a weapon) or a teleporter (we know that those do exist in Fallout) - but if it is a powersource then, ok  (I'd love some solar-panels, too....

ps: Concrete...well, better than rusted sheath metal (hopefully it will look ok - well, like concrete would today, not like disrepaired despite the fact that you have just constructed that building

I just got done watching the footage from E3 where he demo'd the settlement building, and I was actually keeping my eye open for "clean" rebuilding. And from what I saw, I saw everything from wood, sheet metal, and broken plain parts used, but nothing to insinuate a "clean" repair...

But maybe, if we break down cleaner structures, or later in game, we find a way to construct such kinds of things. It's really quite up in the air.

Still stoked about what I saw.

I shall build Outer Heaven...

Concrete seems to be the only thing you can make a settlement out of that isnt just debris lying around.. and would probably be the hardest to break thru realistically so id imagine given a chance all settlements would love to have a concrete wall around the settlement rather than piles of garbage to protect them.

Well, I think the general concept is working with whatever's handy.

Concrete is not something you just have handy.

I suppose theoretically, you could break up existing concrete, make it fine and re-introduce water-- granted that's an expenditure of water, a valued resource, and even then I'm not sure concrete works like that.

Sadly, in the World of Fallout, all brooms have become non-functional due to the emp-effect resulting from the world-wise use of atomic bombs. Additionally new brooms can no longer be manufactured as all the carriers of this sacred knowledge died during this terrible time.

Seriously tho'.

It's a bit of an annoyance for myself. People right after the apocalypse might have more pressing matters on their minds, but we're talking 200 years later and nobody can be arsed to do some simple cleaning? They're hobos right outside the city gates begging for a drink of water. Just hand them a broom or a shovel and make them work for it.

All those filthy mattresses? I can understand men not caring to much, we're naturally filthy if left to ourselves. But women seem to tend to be pickier. Just sayin'...

Well, not if it's dirty water (like from a stream or a river!) which would need purivication before drinking anyway :)

Exactly, I mean some people manage:

The Enclave does (not all their bases are pre-war structures), same for Vault City (they managed to build a damned CLEAN city!) or even the Brotherhood of Steel (well, not the Capital Wasteland chapter -.- they've been in the Pentagon for ages, but it still looks damned filthy...of course they've had bigger concerns....)...so why is it so hard for others? (hell, there's so many Mr. Handys around that still work, why not reprogram a couple and make them do the cleaning -.-)

Hell, even more our new character is from the pre-war era, so he (or she!) would probably hate all this dirt and rubble everywhere (not to mention the unclean and uneducated rabble living there!)!

Vault City had used their GECK to terraform the area around their vault though, so they had a step up on the pile in that regard.

Now, assume we get our hands on a GECK, and we finally get to see what those bad boys do first hand.
