Reclaiming the vaults!

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 4:44 pm

Ok i'm a first time poster of this forum but a long time player of the Fallout series.

I have an open ended question that can only be answered when we play the game, but i'll put it here to gauge people reaction.

Ok I love building stuff in games, especially bases of operation, homes, etc etc so I'd REALLY like to know exactly how far the Building creation system will allow us to go as I want to be able to Claim the Vault tec vaults and rebuild them and retask them for new uses, starting with the Vault you start in "Vault 111".

I'm also hoping you actually get some time to explore said vault before you get out of it, and not have the entire segment a scripted scene.

So all in all I would like to be able to not just build from scratch, but restore buildings that are still standing firm but just need a little fixer upper.

I just hope that the building system is going to be big enough so we can all have some fun, but I surely hope that the system doesn't favour the PC, as my laptop has no way in hell of running fallout 4, so i'll be playing it on xbox one.

So Devs: please don't leave out anything for the consoles, if it works on pc make it work for consoles.

I wonder what people will do with a network of vaults to do with as they please?

I could totally dig on revamping a vault, as long as I could remove the trash that's always laying around. It's been 200 years people clean it up. I would make a vault dedicated to SCIENCE! find all the smartest people and lure them to my vault to make more weapons, and things to make life better in the wastes. What those things will be is up for grabs until I get there and find out what is really needed but I could see a Tesla like free power for everyone thing going on.

Theres been a comment in one of the dev videos/gameplay walkthrough that although the locations for bases are fixed, Bethesda can and will put many varied locations in. Could one of these be a Vault? Perhaps....

Personally I wouldnt want one as they are mostly flawed creations, there is that one in FNV that has been reconfigured as a hotel but for the most part I'd want to steer clear.

I don't know, vaults are rather big, might be difficult to handle for the building mechanic. Also, what is there to build? Furniture mostly. Walls and doors are already there.

Ya I'm really hoping you can use a vault as your base of operations. NOTHING cooler than a vault door opening or closing.

Thanks for the "Fish Fingers" hehehe that's what they're called over here in the UK.

I have loads of ideas on what I want to do with the vaults, its just whether or not the system will be flexible enough to allow me to do it.

Being a pen and paper roleplayer for over 20 years you do get into a certain mindset about games.

Its a pity Bethesda destroyed the Pnp Fallout rpg, it would be a great tie in.

Sorry I wont mention the fallout pnp rpg. its now called "Exodus" rpg if you wanna look it up.

I'm going to guesstimate that the settlement marker works (roughly) the same way as the location marker does currently, just expanded on. So being able to 'build' somewhere that wasn't originally foreseen means we're gonna have to wait for the GECK.

Cool idea. I've wanted to do this since fallout 3.

take over and use the vault as a base of operations.

I know it's a bit much to ask for but it would be awesome if you could link a Shelter game to a vault in Fallout 4. Then you could visit your vault dwellers and collect the loot they find in the wasteland. Or maybe just come across one of the vault dwellers you've sent out into the wasteland. I guess some would also like to raid their own vaults as if they were the raiders.

Tbh Im not really a fan of rebuilding out of a Vault Location. I personally think that all 'settlement' locations will be above ground. Mostly on flat terrain

They should include at least one inhabitable vaul that you can arrange however you like (as far as furnishings go).

That would be cool since those raiders in New Vegas re purposed Vault 3 into a headquarters hideout as a base of operations.

I wanna be able to rip the thing apart for building materials. Vault architecture beats just about anything in the wastes.
