Recommend Music?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 5:14 am

I recently downloaded Better Music System but was however disappointed with the selection of tracks. I found most of the pieces far too cheery and stereotypically fantasy for my tastes or for the strange, eerie setting of Morrowind itself. I needed something that *fit* the style and aesthetic of Morrowind. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good ambient composers who write in the style of the more moody Daggerfall pieces, or composers like Jack Wall and Robyn Miller.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=3151, which is made of music taken with permission from Divine Divinity. It's the only music mod I've ever tried that's as good as the original tracks, fits in well, and isn't marred by occasional cheesy bits. I've used it in both Morrowind and Oblivion for a long time.

I really like the additional music that Tamriel Rebuilt adds to the soundtrack.

Bah, music. Who needs music? Gets in the way. :P If you have the soundtrack you could just dump it in the music folders. I know there are a few collections remastered Daggerfall tunes on PES. I love snow songs from Arena/Daggerfall.

Just listened to them on YouTube, and saw this in the Suggestions. Epic.

Which download is that in? Is the music in a BSA file?

It's a separate file. I think there are issues with putting music in a BSA. There doesn't seem to be a direct link on the TR download page anymore, but you can find it on the map 1 page on PES, or on the ModDB page.

Agreed. Also, most of the Tamriel Rebuilt music as mentioned before. It's offered as a separate download http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5133%2F&comment_page=2

They've been using it in the last few TR videos, so http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mjJqwZrl8M a video with multiple TR songs.

Those are the only two music mods I'm using now.

Jack Wall and Robyn Miller are definitely good choices! Some of Tim Larkin's work (from Uru and Myst V: End of Ages) is good too, in that same vein.

Some other artists I've got in my Morrowind music folder myself would be:

- http://youtu.be/FRT75w8xI-U (and also her non-solo work, as http://youtu.be/cv46A1BrNK8)
- http://youtu.be/yjPAx5-vD_A's http://youtu.be/eON5O5MRz5M on the BSG reboot
- a lot of Nordic stuff, from http://youtu.be/7eIzsnrXaQA, http://youtu.be/jYdG5Opx9A4 and Gjallarhorn. (Their faster-paced songs, of which there's quite a lot, also makes good battle music. ;) )
- Jesper Kyd's http://youtu.be/KWGIcJN7gHI to http://youtu.be/c3udu4SUsIc

The soundtrack to AC2 makes up the majority of my \Explore music folder for MW at the moment, actually. Wonderful stuff.

Edit: I'll second the recommendations for the Epic Soundtrack. I'm not using the entire set myself, as there's a few tracks I just didn't care for, but what I do have is good ambient music that suits MW very well.

I always thought there was this slightly asian feel to Morrowind - so at the moment I'm listening to the Shogun 2 soundtrack with my game. Its nicely split into battle and exploration music too :)

Well, we do have katanas, wakizashis, tantos and throwing stars. And those conical rice farmer hats.

I sometimes like to prowl through the Bitter Coast in the rain listening to the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon OST and I think those things go together very well. Here's an example of what's on the soundtrack:

Ennio Morricone-The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly soundtrack. I think it fits pretty well, sad/epic feeling music, with a few more upbeat pieces.

Posting a comment so that I'll be able to find this topic later.

One thing I look for in additional music is game-atmosphere friendliness, as in does it fit MW/OB? No electric guitars, synthesizers etc.

Like the above poster, soundtracks can have some great tracks. I also like a lot of piano pieces.

Some of my favorites, though some get a bit too modern for Morrowind:

Oh I started using Yasunori Mitsuda's orchestral soundtrack of Xenogears lately, it has a pretty good vibe to it, especially Shevat's theme
