Recommendation please

Hey everybody,

I used to this Oblivion all the time and now, after getting restless waiting for SW:TOR to launch, I'm back. I was wondering if an experienced member could recommend a list of mods that would really improve my Oblivion play time. :) Just a solid list that could include anything from overhauls, to graphic changes etc. I really enjoy being the sneaky, archer/dager, assassin type, so mods that could improve on combat and such would be especially appreciated. However, if you use a spell mod that you absolutely love, don't have second thoughts on sharing it with me. I hope I'm being specific enough for you.

With thanks,

iamcarl

overhauls

Take your pick. OOO? Fran's? TIE? FCOM?

graphic changes

Too many to list here. What do you want and/or what do you dislike about vanilla graphics?

I really enjoy being the sneaky, archer/dager, assassin type, so mods that could improve on combat and such would be especially appreciated.

TIE is sounding better and better for your purposes, IMO. Maybe have a look at Duke Patrick's combat mods as well. Hard to tell if they will appeal though.

However, if you use a spell mod that you absolutely love, don't have second thoughts on sharing it with me.

LAME. And no, I'm not insulting you while shouting. ;)

As previously noted there is OOO Fran and TIE also the various UI changers that change the apearance of the user interface. One of the newest is Quest Log manager I would suggest looking at what TheNiceOne has He puts out Several Good mods. Now for magic overhauls Midas comes to mind Mighty magica. There are just way to many to list My suggestion would be to Go Over to Tesnexus and spend about 4 days going through what they have overthere and if you have questions about specific mods Then ask. Alot of what everyone will tell you will be based on personal Preferances. Example some people dont like Blood so they remove it there are others that like to make the cities look Great some want to make it so you can get all the Gold you can some want to make the game more realistic. once again it is all about preferances. Me I am waiting for unnessacery Violance supposed to have decapitaions. :ninja:

Make sure your game is patched to the latest official version. You then need to decide on your install method - Manual (not advised), through OBMM (oblivion mod manager, good for beginners) or Wrye Bash (Latest 'preferred' method). Then no matter what install method you choose for your mods, you definatly want BOSS (will sort out your load order). Next you want the Unofficial Oblivion Patches (UOP).

Then it's a matter of trawling the tes nexus & planet elder scrolls to find things you like. There are lots of mod lists on if you google them but these are normally well out of date, so I wouldn't do that. Also check through other posts like this in the forum as this question is posed quite regularly (I myself posted one just like this about a month ago!).

This site is well worth a good look. The 'downloading mods' section has quite a few popular mods listed with links. It also is a great intro to getting started with mods. http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/

Hope this helps

EDIT : levelling mods : I'm using Realistic Levelling at the mo, nGCD another popular one & Oblivion XP to name a few

Sorry I would have given you links but I'm tired!

Well, I like nGCD + Progress. Whatever other levelling mod(s) you opt for, Progress is often worth adding in, because it allows you to further customise the way it's done, "to the nth degree".

edit: Oh, and re: graphics mods - utilities/addons like OBGE and/or ENB might be worth looking at. No matter what texture packs or the like you might decide on, "mods" like those can really make a huge difference. In fact, even with vanilla Oblivion graphics, they can do surprising things.

also: With regards to combat mods, how could I forget Unnecessary Violence and Deadly Reflex! Both are coming up for renewal (arguably, completion) very soon. WOrth keeping an eye on both, IMO.
