DEFINITELY buy them! IMO, of course. But if you want to learn more of the world and lore, then I would suggest it. Arena is available for download at Bethesda's website, but needs to be played with DOSBOX on newer computers. Daggerfall (or heck, even Redguard and Battlespire too) can be found online or in used game stores (check the local ones around you).

Do remember that the gameplay is very different, from each game to the next.

Don't buy Arena, download it. It's available for free on the Elder Scrolls website. If you enjoy that, then by all means buy Daggerfall, because the odds that you'd enjoy Arena and not its sequel are next to nil.

If, on the other hand, you DON'T like Arena...well, the best I can do is tell you to try Daggerfall's Betony demo (Google "betony demo" without the quotations, you'll find it pretty quick). It's entirely representative of the actual game, so if you like it then it's a safe bet that you'll like Daggerfall and if you don't then the odds that you'd like the full game are extremely slim.

I just want to point out beforehand that getting the past games to run on modern computers requires a decent amount of computer know-how. Even though the stickies here point out explicitly how to do it, step by step, some people still seem to have trouble with it. Just a heads up: if you're a technological dunce, then you'll likely get frustrated ;)
