Recently I convinced my girlfriend to read the infernal city and there are many concepts that she didn't quite get because of not being familiar to the series so I thought it would be a great idea to create a list of recommended reading from the imperial library to those that are not familiar with the series to read that would complement the infernal city allowing for a better more enjoyable read.
so what are yall's suggestions for the recommened list of reading?

LOCK HER IN A ROOM WITH THE SERMONS AND THE LOVELETTER.

COME BACK 3 WEEKS LATER.

REMEMBER TO LEAVE FOOD OR SHE MIGHT DIE.

The Pocket Guides are a nice start. Though when it comes to the bare bones, playing the games probably works better.

Some of the basic concepts, or some of the more in-depth concepts?

If you're referring to stuff like Khajiit morphology and basic geography, http://www.imperial-library.info/ has some fantastic resources on the materials.

If you're referring to stuff like why did the Ministry crash into Vivec City, etc... it requires at least a Masters Degree in Brainsplosion Control to learn that without suffering critical Brainsplosions.

Or, you can get the base concepts down, and slowly move up the ladder.

http://www.imperial-library.info/pge3/, http://www.imperial-library.info/tsoo/, http://www.imperial-library.info/book_daedra/, http://www.imperial-library.info/races/, these texts should give a good base from which to go into reading the book.

Everything. All of it. The whole [censored] thing. And then some.

Seriously though if she played Morrowind and Oblivion she'd have a basic understanding, at least of the locations, people and events referenced to.

I think that the Tsaesci Creation Myth has a lot of relevance to the story. :P

Just have her read the Sermons, the Lessons, the story of Morrowind, and the 3rd PGE

Well, that's just required for reading at all times. Along with Vivec's Muatra.

Does she honestly give a [censored]? If no, then she's already half-way there. The other half requires that she learns the Fifth Walking-Way and performs it. Then, Adanorcil, you commence with Martha Stewart's literary triumphs, like How to Cook a Dog in Under Five Seconds.

Late is the [censored] who comes to Gnosis by any other way than Kinsey Ave.

Vivec's sermons are really not the place to begin for someone who knows nothing about the setting. I'd suggest:
3rd PGE: http://www.imperial-library.info/pge3/
Imperial Census of Daedra Lords: http://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/census_daedra.shtml
A Short Life of Uriel Septim VIII: http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/life_uriel_septim.shtml
The Pilgrim's Path (with the simplest gloss on why there's a moon over Vivec city): http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/pilgrim_path.shtml
