Recommended Settings/Fixes for Nvidia Optimus based Laptops?

Desktop Performance: Amazing! I'm rocking the game at 1080p @ Ultra High w/ 4xAA/16xAF with nary a frame rate hitch. Aside from a couple of typical NPC glitches it's been flawless so far.

Desktop System: AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition @ 3.9ghz // G.Skill DDR2 1066 6GB // Sapphire Radeon HD5830 1GB // HT Omega Striker // Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

Laptop Performance: Not so amazing.. I know my laptop (an Asus UL-80JT) isn't meant for gaming, but I can play Fallout 3 perfectly fine at medium settings at 1280x720 and still maintain a constant 30fps. Fallout New Vegas on the other hand fluctuates all over the place. It's fine while traveling and fighting mutants, but as soon as I come around NPC's my frame rate drops like a rock to the low teens. I tried the .dll fix and I got the infinite splash screen loop. Is there any way around this for Nvidia Optimus based laptops?

Laptop Specs: Core i3 330m ULV @ 1.2ghz (2.0ghz Turbo) // 4GB DDR3 1333 // 1GB GeForce 310m // 64MB Intel HD IGP // WIndows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

I know my drivers do need to be updated, I'm currently using the 257.21's, but according to Nvidia, until Asus updates the bios for my particular laptop any driver from the 260's and up will cause Windows 7 to lock up after logging in. Does anyone with the same laptop have similar issues or have you found a way to install the latest Nvidia notebook drivers for Optimus Laptops?

I managed to drastically improve my performance by with various .ini tweaks while maintaining my goal of 720p @ Medium Settings with Bloom & 8x AF. My three issues now are as follows:

Mouse Acceleration: In menu's there is a very minute lag and then it zips around. During Gameplay, there seems to be a slight lag between when I move the mouse and how fast I actually look around. I'm using a Steel Series Xia btw.

Distance FPS drop: Indoors (even around npc's) and in towns when I'm not looking a mile away my frame rate is perfectly fine. Whenever I look into the distance, I drop into the low 20's. Is there any particular fix for this?

Vats FPS drop: While I'm targeting it's fine, when the actions are being played out they play out around half my average framerate (14 to 17fps) and looks very choppy. It doesn't kill it for me considering that it's only during fraps, general combat is fine, it's just an annoyance.

This is on my laptop btw. My desktop experience has been flawless so far in terms of performance and playability.

LOL! You think the GT 310m is meant for gaming? It's a garbage chipset, about the equivalent of an 8400GT desktop, if not lower then that. You should do more research into your chipsets/cards before you post stuff like this, or buy them for that matter.

Unhelpful, dude. The 310M should be running this game just fine with decent settings. This is not Crysis.

@ Lucian04: Here is a potential fix for Optimus machines:

I have an Alienware M11x R2... same problem as you. DLL produces the Launcher loop. I know. svcks. Supposedly, this gets around that.

I will admit that I have not yet tried the fix I just linked (waiting until I get home tonight... will repost my results), but it seems to work for other Optimus users. Several have confirmed... including at other website forums on this issue.
But it is an irritating fix. We are hoping a patch is imminent.

Please repost here if this works or does not work for you.

Hey man. After HOURS of fooling around I found a workaround. It's annoying and takes a while, but it will work if you follow the steps correctly. Please reply to my thread if the fix works for you.

Hi everyone,

I can confirm that AtomicSabotage's fix does work for me. Kind of annoying to cycle through each time, but better than not playing.
Still drop to under 20 FPS at some points outside on Highish settings.
