Recommended Uncapper & Legendary Skills Mods

Post » Sat Nov 22, 2014 3:41 am

Hello,

For several years I have been using Elys uncapper: http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/13841/? and Legendary Abilities http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/19245/?, but I recently stumbled upon a couple of alternatives:

JRoush's AV Uncapper http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/34841/?

and

Malonn's Legendary Skills http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/40486/?

Which of these mods would you recommend I use, or are there any alternatives?

Thanks.

It depends on what you want to uncap. Elys uncapper works perfectly and there is no need to "upgrade" it to another uncapper if you like the things that are uncapped by Elys. Elys uncaps attributes and certain skills up to 200 but does not uncap all skills or limitations on damage resistance and other stuff that is uncapped by some of the other uncappers.

AV uncapper uncaps all actor values, which includes skills not uncapped by Elys as well as things like damage resistance.

Legendary skills seems like it adds perks for skills that go above 100. Agian, whether you want this is personal preference.

My preference is to just use Elsy (my characters rarely get to such high level that they even need an uncapper), but others like AV and Legendary.

Does anyone know how the uncapper works per se? I mean, apart from uncapping over 100 your attributes, does it get counted for example, for your damage?

And also, is it compatible with oblivion xp ?

My understanding of Elys is that increasing strength above 100 will affect melee damage. I'm no expert though and I have no experience with Oblivion XP (I use Realistic Levelig).

Thanks for that, on having a more detailed look, I think 'Legendary Abilities' affects more skills than 'Legendary Skills' which appears to be a WIP.

AV Uncapper has some very interesting options, especially when it comes to things like Chameleon. I think it is somewhat better than Elys' as it was designed to replace it, but it's more complex to set up.

I've got Supreme Magicka which lets me put a cap on the Chameleon percentage at what ever number I want. Not as complex a solution as AV but it is simple to use and gets the job done.

As I recall, Elys is really simple to install and use, just paste a single .dll file into the OBSE plugins folder. I suppose if you want a more complex solution, AV would be fine, but if you just want somethign simple that uncaps the attributes and most fo the skills that benefit from an uncap, then Elys works fine.

But I tend to like some of the older mods more than some of the newer fancier options. Like Galerions unarmored, I use the original version, rather than the new version because I did not want some of the bells and wistles the newer version added. I hate to say it since I am always complaining about the "simplification" of the series, but sometimes when it comes to mods, I prefer a simple solution to a solution that adds complexity than I need.

I prefer AV uncapper, I only want attributes uncapped, not skills. It lets you configure everything manually and also has nice options for diminishing returns on resistances etc. Elys has no benefits imo aside from saving you the setup.

Oh, this is interesting. I like those perks, but a while back I dropped Legendary Abilities and reverted to just Elys Uncapper, because at some Illusion level (125?) the PC went into a state of permanent chameleon - very, very annoying (though I suppose I could have fixed it in CS). Do either of the other two mentioned in the OP do anything like that?

That's a pretty big benefit though for those who are happy with the choices made in Elys. Isn't ease of set-up one of the main themes behind your Balanced Magic mod and why it is being offered as an alternative to Supreme Magicka and Lame, which can be configured to do pretty much the same thing as Balanced Magic but only after lot of ini file tweaking?

Seems to me AV is the best choice for people who aren't satisfied with the choices made in Elys and want the ability to fine tune themselves. But Elsy may be the best choice for those who are happy with the choices made in Elsy. Installation and set up of Elsy literally takes two seconds with no readme required beyond "paste .dll into OBSE plugin folder."

AV also seems to require an esp file, while Elsy doesn't. So if one is happy with the choices made in Elsy, that's another benefit -- cutting down on extraneous esp files in your load order.

I never liked the chameleon effect anyway, so I overhauled it. Got rid of the refraction effect entirely (which was always a dead give away), replaced it with an alpha effect, and made sure the player always has a minimum of .3 so you could always see what you were doing.

I'be always felt that chameleon affects other people's perception of yourself, not your own perception, because it's an illusion. Since you were the one who cast it, the illusion wouldn't affect you.

Same with Invisibility actually, which I need to revisit.
