Recording help(graphics, effects, etc)

Post » Sun Sep 13, 2015 11:03 pm

Short intro, I have a crappy YouTube channel and upload often crappy let's play videos.

Lately I've been playing around with graphics enhancement mods etc, but they're not coming out right in the recording. I have this issue as well without said enhancements, but to a lesser degree.

I use MSI Afterburner on a R9 380 series card.

The problem is that interiors are *way* too dark. Nighttime is too dark. It looks fine in game(I'd like to have to use Night Eye as Khajiit) but even when I can see perfectly fine without it, its too dark on the recording.

While it may be immersive for me, my audience isn't going to like black screens with random spots you can barely see where a light happens to be.

It doesn't seem to pick up Night Eye either very well.

I'm running Climates of Tamriel, and have used RCRN in the past, and while the color enhancement shows on video, nights and caves are too dark.

Vanilla game they're on the dark side too.

So what are my options here? Jack the gamma up? Washed out that way.

Bleh.

This sounds strange. What recording software are you using? It seems like a problem between the game and the recording software.

I have used http://v2.planetgamecam.com/, http://www.fraps.com/, and currently http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience/shadowplay (that's from nVidia). All of these record what is actually on my screen well, though FRAPs has overly HUGE file sizes.

Is your recording software adjustable in any way?

I mentioned what I'm using in the OP, MSI Afterburner.

I cannot use ShadowPlay as I do not use an NVidia card.

I will not use Fraps(or as I call it, Craps), mostly due to file size, and partly due to I record 30-60 minute videos and I'm not buying Fraps(not worth cost because of those ridiculous file sizes).

Unsure if there's a setting I can change, and I haven't uploaded any recent video(post new GPU) so I can't link one to show.

I use FRAPS myself (paid version), but I just convert the files to MP4 and delete the .avi files.

I do that too, mostly because of of upload times, but I do archive my .avi.

Yeah, nothing like waiting a week for a vid to upload, then getting the Youtube notice that your video has been ques and will be processed someday... and after it's finally processed, it takes an hour for thumbs to show up.

It's still doing stupid stuff.

Like, it'll upload and I'll see "taking longer than normal to process" for hours upon hours but if I go into my video manager, it'll be up and ready to publish. Like wtf?

Anyway... Any ideas on how to fix this? Really driving me nuts that I'm going to have to disable my injectors if this is how its going to look on video.

Some video editor software like Cyberlink's PowerDirector can alter video lighting, perhaps that (or something like that) would do it for you. It's a little spendy, but not too bad. I bought it, but haven't figured out how to use it yet...

Your menu lighting seems fine, but yes your environment lighting is a bit darker than mine. I run 7870 and even have my flat panel brightness at -10 compared to the default setting in the AMD Control Center because I find it not quite dark enough at defaults. Try Under Desktop > right click > AMD Vision Engine Control Centre > My Digital Flat-Panels > Display Color (Digital Flat-Panel), try adjusting your contrast? http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1913230/installed-radeon-290-card-games-dark.html

As for large video files try http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter? Of course you will lose video quality if you try to shrink down the file size while keeping it in the same video format.
