Recruiting settlers: how ?

Post » Sat Dec 12, 2015 1:01 am

I don't know what I'm missing.

On Sanctuary, I have the Recruitment Radio Beacon on.

If I look on Data, Workshops, I see no warnings on anything. Everything seems fine.

10 people, 18 food, 49 water, power 24, defense 84, beds 14, happiness 80. It's been like that since I was level 10 or something. Now I'm level 29. Nothing changed. No new settler. And now that I think about it, I believe none of those 10 people were "recruited" by the radio beacon thing. They're the original gang you get when you start the game, a couple of companions and one random guy that I sent from another settlement.

I even try to boost charisma even further, currently 6, but apparently it has no effect.

What am I doing wrong ?

I've found that sometimes I have to switch the beacon OFF and then back on again; not sure if it's bugged, but I had two of my settlements stagnate and doing this saw instant results.

Are you sure your beacon is connected to the power grid, and is turned on? Check to be sure the radio signal is broadcasting?

Other than that, add a shop or 2, boost the happiness/defense/beds/food/water maybe? My Sanctuary has been maxed since early on, my stats are 80+ happiness, 120+ defense, 60+ water, 36 food, and 20 beds. Charisma is 9 currently, started with 6 for Local Leader.

Can't hurt to try I guess. Unless it's bugged, it's a bit frustrating not knowing what is going on and not getting clues from the game as to what to improve.

Maybe I have to progress in my main story line ? I haven't done anything in quite some time....

Yes, beacon is broadcasting. Listening to it atm...

I also found switching the radio beacon off and back on allowed me to recruit a few extras at Sanctuary, seems that's the wonkiest settlement for recruiting for some reason.

I can confirm that recruiting Settlers is a pain in the ass. Some of them won't even allow themselves to be moved from other stations to Sanctuary. I guess that's because each settlement needs a minimum number of them? Also, when I do find some that can be moved, Sanctuary hills is greyed out for some reason despite me having only 15 people in it.

It's really annoying.

I just set up beacons at all settlements and move the settlers to the settlements I use

But how? i can't send them. Sanctuary hills is greyed out for me. Plus most settlers can't be moved.

Don't forget the number of settlers is 10 + charisma. Even with the beacon on they will stop coming when they reach your current limit.

Yup. I do this regularly (about every 3 new settlers) and I switch it between power sources. Almost immediately I get another settler.

Must be like refreshing your computer screen?

Hangman's Alley for me blew up overnight at 12 villagers, and that is just too many people for that little amount of space, so I sent a few to Sanctuary because...you know, I actually try and made accomodations and amenities for settlements...and 12 is just too many for hangmans alley

That's quite a trip for those folks. Didn't you have any closer settlements? Besides, those are city-folks, why you sending them way out there?

That reminds me, I need to send a few folks up to the Co-op. There are only 2 folks there and a lot of corpses. They're probably lonely.

Because Sanctuary is sort of my test bed "experimental" settlement where I try out crazy things and I needed more people there anyway, and I'm sure they appreciate the more calm easy going setting rather than nesting where ghouls and super mutants tend to poke around. I'm doing them a favor, really. I'm giving them a piece of mind, and Mutfruit does not tend itself and stalls do not run themselves...

Is it because sanctuary in out in the boonies that it's so slow? Hangman Alley is in the middle of Boston, can that be a factor programed in?

The limit can additionally be extended with +charisma items. I have 6 charisma... but 18 settlers in Sanctuary. Unless it's counting the dog I purchased but can't use... that's still over the limit. Green shirt and pants + black rimmed glasses + Minuteman hat. I can look like minuteman, wear all the armor, AND get maximum charisma bonus potential!

Oddly enough my option of moving settlers to different settlements disappeared. None of my settlements were maxed. I just figured the beta patch is messing with me.

If you have a settlement where you feel like settlers would be a waste you can have them move to another settlement and fill 1 up that way.

You can do missions for the minute men to get more settlements and move the settlers to whatever settlement you want.

Like I said. Probably like refreshing your screen on a computer. I betcha the code is unstable long term, that's why it works 'cause you're resetting it.
