Red and green text next to weapon damage?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 5:16 pm

I posted this same thing in the bugs part of the forums. No one said anything so maybe it is not a bug. Maybe i am not understanding the workings of the game

Right now I am using a steel sword. I just walked up to a body and found a exact same steel sword. Why does it say however +2 next to it even know the damage is the same?

Why does this green number disappear when I have the same sword in my backpack?

It shows up when I am looting. Like it wants to say hey this does more damage. Also it does that some times when I compare a steel sword to a ancient nordic one (both do the same damage) Some how out of no where both of them gained 2 extra damage. But that might be from me skilling in them. I am looking at a steel war axe. it says Damage 15 Weight 12 value 55 Below that it says Damage 13 (+6) Carry weight 192/310 Gold 1730 And then my health bar.

Also on a side note. Some items have a little up arrow next to them. Does that just mean they are an upgrade?

Basically the red and green text is telling you the item you picked up is better (green text) or worse (red text) than what you already have equipped. Also the +2 just means that you have two of the same item in you pack.

Re read my post.

I am looking at a steel sword on the ground. The EXACT same one I hold in my hand. But it says +2

it has nothing to do with what you have in your pack.. if it has +2 it means that the weapon does +2 more then that swords base damage because of your skill with that weapon..other wise i would have had +47 ebony mace's in my pack :D

I have noticed that sometimes the damage doesnt display properly if you have some perks and smithing enhanced weapons when comparing lootable items with what your wearing.

Then why does another steel sword with no enchantments or sharpening show to have more damage?

Two weapons that have the SAME damage no enchantments or anything showing more damage?

From what I have seen and guessed, that "damage increase" for the second weapon is what you would see if you were to dual wield that weapon. Try picking it up and using wielding it in your left hand; the damage should show that increase, and when you target the weapon/shield you had before, it should show the same change in red.

But after I pick it up the + disappears from the numbers.

Try dual-wielding it anyways. Maybe the display priorities are messed up and it shows how it would be dual-wielded on the ground, but not in your inventory? not at my comp right now so I cant test it myself.

I'm getting the same thing myself, and sometimes I'll see it in my own pack. I'll look at one of my weapons and it'll say (+2) or what-have-you. I usually just unequip and re-equip it and it goes away. It's just a bug, Bethesda will fix it in due time. If not, there's always the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.
